Evan Rachel Wood talks about her steamy sex scene in "True Blood"Thanks to a Q&A in this week's Newsweek we've got more scoop on Evan Rachel Wood's role as the Lesbian Vampire Queen of Louisiana on True Blood. When we heard that Wood had signed on to play Queen Sophie-Ann, our first thought was, "But how will we know she's gay?" After all, we were promised a lesbian last season, and that played out in little more than an occasional lustful look. This season, though, things are going to be different.
According to Newsweek's interview, we'll know Sophie-Ann is a full-blown lesbian by the "steamy sex scene." "It's with a girl," Wood said. "That's all I'm going to say. I don't think vampires are really gay or straight. I think she just prefers women." There's a word for women who prefer other women. I'm trying to think of it. Oh, right — gay. I understand the idea that all vampires in the True Blood universe are pansexual or whatever, but I'm pretty sure Sophie-Ann is just a half-millennium old Lez.
Wood also told Newsweek how she landed the part. I actually put in a phone call to [series creator] Alan Ball and said, "I love the show, I'm obsessed with it, seen every episode; if there's ever a part, keep me in mind." I've been watching The Lost Boys and my favorite vampire movies. It's a lot harder than I imagined. I'm working pretty hard on the script. But I don't think I'll really be able to find the character until I'm in wardrobe and I'm in fangs. Sophie-Ann will make her appearance in the last two episodes of the season, "New World in My View" and "Frenzy." They will air on HBO later this summer. Are you still stoked for Wood's turn as the Lesbian Vampire Queen? Submitted by on June 22, 2009 - 10:00am. |

YES.
My god, I cannot wait. I have loved ERW since her days as Jessie on Once and Again. Seeing her all grown up and playing a hot lesbian vampire queen is going to be amazing.
I had the pleasure of meeting her a month or so ago, and was going to ask her about this, but she had to go :(
Regardless, it's time that we get a lesbian on True Blood. They've covered pretty much everything else! Hopefully the scene will be with Sookie or Jessica, though I'm sure it's just wishful thinking on my part. I'm just sad we have to wait another 8 episodes to meet her!
Sadly enough, I haven't
Ahhh! I cannot wait any
Ahhh! I cannot wait any longer!
Don't get me wrong...I love "Sooookiee" and Bill and Tara and everyone but a lesbian vampire queen played by Evan Rachel Wood? That's pretty spectacular.
YAY!
You can't see it but I'm totally doing my happy dance (one of em anyway).
I am what I am. Love me or hate me. Just consider me.
woohoo!
Pretty perfect casting
Unless they really veer from the books (totally possible) Sophie Ann never gets freaky with Sookie....its Sookie's cousin Hadley who is shall we say "the queen's favorite"...but Sophie Ann is very powerful and vital to the series so I think she's gonna be around for awhile. Looking forward to it!
Yes, please.
I'll take three. With extra lesbian on the side, thanks.

"But to see her was to love her, love but her, and love forever."
Stunningly beautiful...

"There's a word for women who prefer other women. I'm trying to think of it. Oh, right — gay."
haha i got a nice chuckle out of that one. o and yea, i'm excited about ERW.
"their laughter was more touch than sound."
I can't wait.
True Blood is my favorite show right now, and Evan Rachel Wood playing a lesbian vampire on said show makes me love it even more. That girl is crazy hot, I've had a thing for her for years. I suppose it's too much to hope for her to stick around, but I'll take what I can get. Y-A-Y.
ohhh Evan <3
Cant wait!
Picture...
I love Evan Rachel Wood, even if she lost a few brownie points by dating that walking freak show Marilyn Manson. She was simply amazing in O & A. That kiss scene is still one of my favorite.
One thing though: that first picture absolutely does not do her justice. She almost looks like a drag queen in it. It's a far cry from this girl:
Agreed. All that make-up
Agreed. All that make-up really hides her natural beauty, if you ask me.
And I try not to judge her for dating Marilyn Manson, but I still feel weirdly protective of her about it. What did he do to her, hmmm?
I think she did it herself.
Wow
I totally regret not having watched True Blood at all, but I've heard from friends that its an "epic" vampire series. I guess I need to get into this vampire fad, especially if ERW is gonna be this hot lesbian vampire queen!!!
I agree with her comment
I agree with her comment about vampires and sexual orientation. Vampires don't really get into all this categorizing and labelling business. They simply are and they are free to think and act as they please. It's the mortals that need to compartmentalize everything. How liberating it must be to a vampire...
I wonder who plays Hadley...
Steamy?
Does anyone else think that "steamy" sounds gross, not sexy? I can't help but think of cooked vegetables when I hear that word.
Even though I haven't watched True Blood yet (I'm getting to season one on my Netflix queue), I'm always excited when Evan is in a project that I might like. I feel like we need to send her a plaque or something for doing all these lesbeau roles.
...
Evan Rachel Wood.
Lesbian sex.

There is nothing else to say here.

Today, I was corrected by my bi friend who has read the books that her character was bisexual.....couldn't really argue with her not having read the books lol.
