Emma Watson preps the press for "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince"When Warner Brothers bumped Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince's release date to this summer, the Potter fandom cried out like it had been hit with a Cruciatus Curse. It's not like the studio didn't have time to do the thing properly: Potter 6 was ready in October, and I'm pretty sure Summit Entertainment has released four Twilight movies to the tune of a hundred gazillion dollars since then. WB's decision was mostly about the Writers' Strike, and the gaping hole it left in this summer's movie schedule, but we're talking the Cruciatus here: it's painful and Unforgivable. At least that's what we thought, until images and trailers for the sixth movie started raining down like actual magic. Now with the Potter media storm fully underway and Half-Blood Prince so close (21 days!), it's as if we've all been healed by a stout dose of Madam Pomfrey's Skele-Gro. This month's Teen Vogue features Emma Watson, all coutured-up and taking some teensy English ponies for a walk in the countryside.
In her interview with the fashion mag, Emma runs down the plot of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: "At the beginning, it looks like [Ron and Hermione] are on their way to finally being together, but of course Ron screws it up. So she's jealous, and doesn't quite realize it, and they have all these arguments." Succinct for a 652-page book, no? Oh, also there's some expository time travel and a lot of hijinks with potions and some snogging and then (Spoiler Alert) the saddest thing in the history of literature happens, and then there is a funeral.
Depending on how deep you wade into the Harry Potter fandom — I, personally, have been to the Chamber of Secrets — you get a variety of opinions about Emma Watson. The most common complaint is that she's too pretty to play the bushy-haired, book-adoring Hermione Granger. It's absurd logic on a variety of levels. First, what kind of dummy bemoans beauty? Second, when Warner Brothers cast her, how could they possibly have known she was going to grow up to be such a bombshell? Watson has become a bit of a fashion icon in the last few years. She describes her style as "quite British and very much about individuality," although lately she's been rolling out of bed and heading to set wearing a "hoodie and Ugg boots." (Sounds like she's developing college campus style, to me.) Earlier this year while Potter co-star Dan Radcliffe was running around pantless, Watson was covering herself in Burberry's fall line. And apparently she's become good pals with Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel's design deity.
Don't think she's all priss, though. Every time a Potter press tour rolls around, we get to hear Radcliffe and Rupert Grint lament Watson's athletic prowess. She's a skilled field-hockey and tennis player, as well as fly fisherwoman. Also, she destroys them at table tennis.
And Grint:
One of the most surprising things Watson has disclosed during the Half-Blood Prince media blitz is that she doesn't know if she'll continue acting after Potter. "There's not, like, a burning passion in me," she said. "Until something comes along that I feel as strongly about as I did Hermione — like, I felt that it was life or death — I don't want to act again." Of course, in addition to the beauty and the athletic skills, Watson has genuine Hermione Granger-level smarts. I guess that's why every reporter she speaks with presses her about what she's going to do with the rest of her life. It's not like she has to decide now. She's an actress in the most successful film franchise of all time; she's confessed to earning enough money playing Hermione that she'll never have to work again. She aced her A-Levels last year, and she's has been courted by every Ivy League university in America. Whenever she decides she wants to embrace her destiny, it seems like she should simply hold her wand up to the sky and shout, "Accio Awesome!" Tell us, how excited are you that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is (finally!) almost here? Submitted by on June 26, 2009 - 10:00am. |

Radcliffe is so handsome. watson is gorgeous.
I like how britist actors arent so out there in the media 24/7; well, maybe in england they are but here-not so much-well at least they're not. and i think thats awesome. i feel that watson is quite independent and i heard some people debating about what university she's going to attend. some say prinston, brown, harvard, notre dame, supposidly, she hasn't decided on one yet but i think her major's going to be physgology or something with a "gy" at the end.
I'm looking forward the video game of Half Blood Prince. I always play the video games but i was disappointed on the OOTP one.
I don't get the gay vibe from her or any vibe from her; however, i get a strong vibe from the girl who plays Ginny.
I get the vibe from Ginny,
I think it'll be a good one.
beauty w brains she is...
beauty w brains she is... shes hot..omg...!
and its great that harry potter is coming!!!!! been waiting for ages!
I saw her walking around
beautiful hermione granger
i don't think the issue with her playing hermione is really a criticism more so an observation. emma watson is ridiculously attractive and hermione is pretty but all of her prettiness is underneath that mane of hair! it's obviously not something anyone can help (or would want to) but it is a reality. i, personally, think that the fact she's SOOO pretty is a good thing. it makes the hermione character that much more lovable because she doesn't let her looks (whether they be good or bad) get in the way of being a complete, and utter badass.
the chick who plays ginny, however, really needs to get a little more attractive. no lie. ginny weasley is supposed to be HOT and the ginny girl is pretty, but kind of plain.
as for the girl-on-girl thing, i have always been a fan of hermione granger/pansy parkinson pairings. just saying.
Still slightly painful and most definitely UNforgivable
"it's as if we've all been healed by a stout dose of Madam Pomfrey's Skele-Gro."
No, it's still unforgivable.
I'm in love with Ginny. And omg, if Bonnie Wright was gay...my life would be made.
so smitten
oh emma watson. 19 has never looked so good! and the fact that she's also athletic and smart as heck, as well as beautiful? SUCH a crush. and little character crush on hermoine, too (obviously). that ron weasley wont know what hit him this summer.
and i like that she doesnt know if she wants to continue acting. personally, id love to see her explore her interests in art & fashion. and maybe move next door.

And maybe move next door!
aaaahhh!!!
woooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh!!!
Vibes
I'm sorry, but I have gotten "The Vibe" both from Ginny AND from Harry. In the books especially. They never were a believeable couple to me.
In the past movies it looked a lot like they were exploring the Potter/Granger dynamic.
This picture is also hinting at that.
I don't know if they really want to go there bacause these two have way too chemistry for Ron's good.
On a side note:I'm really, really glad, that Miss Watson is 19.I did feel slightly guilty crushing on her when she was 17.^^
And she is moving next door to ME!^^
Lol.
Bewitching.That Miss Watson.No kiddning.
My issue
My issue with Emma Watson playing Hermione isn't that she's pretty- Hermione's supposed to be pretty as well, if a bit unconventionally.
My issue is that they made her look as pretty and fashionable as possible in the movies after Chamber of Secrets. Hermione's not supposed to have straightish shiny hair, dammit!
It's not a huge deal for me though, because although Emma doesn't really represent the Hermione I had in my head as I read Harry Potter, she does do an undeniably great job in her role.
In other news: 21 DAYS!!!!!!!
ALSO: I heard she picked Columbia. I live in NYC. YES.
Oh my lawd...
Emma Watson you make my heart sing!!
I'm super excited for the movie preimiere and yes I will be one of those dorks dressed up and going to the midnight showing. =]
I would be sad if she doesn't continue acting but then again I can see where she is coming from...who wants to do something they don't love?
I'm such a Harry Potter nerd
I am super excited for the movie!! But I have a more important question! What mag/photo shoot is the picture of Daniel/Emma/Rupert from? I love Daniel's sweater and Emma's dress! Must find them...
No offense emma.
I love you, you're my favorite character..but thats all you have to say about HBP? its not even..about Ron and Hermione. and what she's saying isn't even..in the book. they werent "on the way to being together" ever.
maybe I'm just a bitter Harmony Shipper. ^_^ lol.
and to the person above me :)
thats from teen vogue from a couple years ago. only issue I ever bought..
Hermione and Ron..
Quote: "its not even..about Ron and Hermione. and what she's saying isn't even..in the book. they werent "on the way to being together" ever. "
Yeah they were. (Spoilers) She asked him to Slughorn's party. Also- Harry said (and I'm paraphrasing because though I nearly have the books memorized- I'm not there yet) that he was "[affraid this was going to happen]" in referring to Ron and Hermione hooking up- because if they broke up it would split up the threesome and also because he would feel like a third wheel. All of that happens at the first third part of HBP before Ron gets together with Lavender. And what did you think Hermione's bawling for months was all about if not for her wanting to be with Ron? Not to mention the canaries? lol..
In regards to her only saying that about HBP: All Emma is ever asked about is Hermione/Ron or she and Rupert. So... she probably just automatically kicks in with that right off because she expects the questions to pop up sooner or later. :)
Anticipus Movieosa!
I'm a true Potter fan and cannot wait for the next film to be out.
I love all the portrayals of the characters, I think they have been terrific. Yes, they have styled Hermione up a bit but it does not deter from the whole of the story.
Alas, no more books to come.
If anyone is interested there is a great series based on the story of Nicholas Flamel. There are 3 books currently out by Michael Scott:
The Alchemyst
The Magician
The Sorceress
If you are Potter fans, you will LOVE this series!
i didnt like those books
Gorgeous!
I agree with others here...I always thought she was gorgeous and extremely intelligent...which is a sexy combination. I always felt a bit skeezy thinking she was hot a few years ago...but now she's legal! Haha.
Btw she's going to Columbia.
~Renée
I wish...
Not too big on the movies...
But I love Emma Watson. Haha.
I was surprised to see it's PG rating, when the 5th was PG-13. I would've expected a flip, especially since the 6th is extra, extra dark (and violent!) Anyway, the trailer looks really promising to me, so hopefully it'll be alright.
so excited

Disturbingly attractive...
Gosh, I had a crush on her since the 1st Harry Potter movie which I found to be quite disturbing!
> From Serious Sam II - "Hey, didn't I just kick your ass TWO rooms back??" <
Argh! Emma Watson's all grown up!
I never really much liked her portrayal of Hermione (yes, I fall into the camp of "but she's too pretty and she has nice hair!" and "eyebrows! eyebrows!") but as a person, Emma Watson is just amazing. Mature, gorgeous, intelligent, sophisticated, elegant, funny, honest and never awkward. I wish I'd had her poise when I was that age.
I cannot WAIT to see HBP. Hermione and Ron, yay! I've been waiting years for this.
"eyebrows! eyebrows!"
Hee!
"You all know... *eyebrows* ... why we're here ... *eyebrows*... We need a teacher ... *eyebrows*... A proper teacher ... *eyebrows*... One who's ... *eyebrows* ... had real experience ... *eyebrows* ... defending themselves against the Dark Arts ... *eyebrows*."
Aw, I love her.
Harry Potter
Loved the films, all of them in fact. In my opinion they bring back the same fantasy feeling on the level that was The Neverending Story. I don't mind them vamping Emma up a bit because they're not doing it in a hyper sexualized way. It's Hollywood, I'm surprised they haven't changed a lot more than they have. Girls grow up to be women. I think we all improve with age.
However, I'm not a fan of her acting so far. No one else could play Hermione, that's for sure, but I think at times she lays it on a bit thick. Between the maidenly heave to her chest and the extreme eyebrow emphasis, I expect her to take off in multiple directions.
Something tells me she's going to do very well in anything she wishes to do. Which could also mean we see her holing up somewhere writting novels of her own. She strikes me as the quiet type. But who am I to say?

"I think all improve with
"I think all improve with age" Whateva you have to tell yourself lol. No actually thats definately true when for example and completely hyperthetically one finds themselves crushing on a 13 yr old girl *ahem*.
Leave the girls acting alone, Hermione is meant to be a bit melodramatic and to be fair to the character has to put up with ron and harry being stupid idiots yet getting all the glory when really shes the one running the show.
No I do love Harry Potter though I will be in Belarus when it comes out, maybe I'll find a russian version, I dont need to know whats being said I know the story backwards I'm that much of a geek. I was indeed dissapoint that I read the first book when I was 11 so that I missed getting the chance to have a letter delivered from hogwarts :(
Emma has her head screwed on right now I just hope she doesnt realise that money can get you anything you want, and then she turns out like so many other famous child actors/actresses.
Mwahxxx
Perhaps the cutest thing...
Perhaps the cutest thing I think I've ever seen you write on this site. And don't you dare watch that movie before I get there! We had an agreement! :(
She's too smart to fall into that trap. Her parents really must have done a damn good job raising her realistically.
~Without risk, there can be no innovation. Without innovation, there can be no advancement. ~
Very cute, but........
did anyone else notice that Dan Radcliff looks a lot like Elijah Wood? It's creepy!!
I soooooooooooo love Hermione. But the Ron/Hermione thing felt a tad off to me. I've always loved the McGranger ship (Hermione/Mcgonagall) for some reason. And yes, Minerva is heaps older then 'Mione, but I still think they would go well together :)
Yes
And i never got the whole Hermione / Ron thing either. These books always contained a whole lot of gay to me, kind of like how I felt reading LoTR - everyone was gay except Sam. Poor Sam. In HP everyone felt a little gay except Ron, he was still in love with Harry and his world but much to his shugrin just not gay.
I doubt
wow
I saw her in the first movie and then lost her track ( saw it a couple of times but really quickly) She became into a beautiful girl. . wooooow
I never thought Emma looked
I never thought Emma looked enough like the Hermione in my head, but I've learnt to overlook that because she's turned out to be completely beautiful.... :p She's grown up to be a damn good actress too!
So excited about this film - I'm going to a midnight screening - for the first time in my career as an utterly fanatic HP nerd :P
i think
oh watson
why on earth are you so perfect? and why should you tantalize us with the prospect of never acting again?
god...she's such a tease. :P
Ive had a crush on Emma
Wow...
Accio Awesome?! LOL!!!
Accio Awesome?! LOL!!! That's possibly the geekiest thing I've ever read.
You're totally awesome for that, Lol!!
I have that issue of TV
Hmm...
