Amy Poehler's new series will air this springAmy Poehler had me at, "I'm not like a regular mom; I'm a cool mom." And she claimed me forever with, "Shoot a mother-humpin' moose eight days of the week!"
This summer, I was so stoked when word leaked from the TCA press tour that Poehler was to headline the mythical Office spin-off. That turned out to be only a half-truth. While Poehler will be starring in a new NBC comedy produced by Greg Daniels and written by Mike Schur (both from The Office), it's an entirely new series that has nothing to do with staplers or paper clips. Mum has been the word on Poehler's new comedy until just this week. E! Online's Kristen Dos Santos busted up an event at the Paley Center for Media when the Office writing team was there on Wednesday. Here's what she found out when she interviewed Mike Schur: The show doesn't have a name yet. "We might have to stick with The Untitled Amy Poehler Non-Spinoff Show (TUAPNSS) for a while because the new series truly does not have a title." Or maybe "Amy Poehler, Beyond Thunderdome!" he said. Because of Poehler's pregnancy (seriously, did you know a woman fully in her third trimester could jump around and rap like that?), the show won't start until April. It will be a mini-season — an "appetizer" — according to Mike. "Think Office season one." The script is almost finished. The pilot will shoot in mid-February. At this point, everything else is top secret. One long-standing rumor is that former Daily Show writer Allison Silverman will join the Amy Poehler, Beyond Thunderdome! team. Which is to say, the only woman writer from this show...
...will be the Mindy Kaling to that show.
(That's The Office's writing team.) One more thing while we're on the subject of Poehler. In 2006, Bust magazine asked Poehler about the over-sexualization of women like the all-girl band The Pussycat Dolls. Poehler told the magazine:
She recently launched a web series called Smart Girls at the Party, to spread that message of real power. It's just Poehler interviewing intelligent, clever, cool girls who don't buy into the media message about women's sexuality. Or, in Poehler's words, "Individual girls who are changing the world by being themselves." Check out the trailer here. You'll love it. "Hear that?" she asks at the beginning of the trailer. "That's the sound of something awesome." Yes, Amy Poehler, it sure is. Submitted by on October 24, 2008 - 9:00am. |

Oh, and I'm looking forward to that new show with Amy. I bet it'll be a while until we get it in the UK, if we ever do, but it sounds promising :-)
