Stephanie Hunt puts herself out there on "Friday Night Lights"

It looks like I’m going to have to tell my girlfriend to make some room on the DVR queue to allow for some Friday Night Lights action. Thanks to a tip from AfterEllen.com reader Jenna, I get to look at pictures of Stephanie Hunt for the rest of the day.

Hunt plays the role of Devin, a cute rock n’ roll bass-playing lesbian who is living outside of the closet in their small, conservative town of Dillon, TX. On this week’s episode, she convinces her friend Julie (Aimee Teegarden) to accompany her to the town’s gay bar.

There was some major flirtation taking place and (gasp) some proper representation of what real lesbians look like!

I swear, I could’ve partied with those girls on a trip to Wellesley back in the day (those girls really knew how to throw a party, let me tell you)!

In a recent interview with the L.A. Times, Hunt talked about playing Devin:

There’s conflict in that because there’s not a lot of confident lesbians in high school that could just be together. So there’s a feeling that she’s a little bit alone. It would be easy for her to say she’s not gay just to be able to fit in more. Fighting for what you want could be a little more challenging, as well as more lonely. That’s what Devin is going through.

Apparently Stephanie is doing such a great job at bringing Devin’s character to life that her role is expanding. That being said, Hunt may have a larger role to fill on NBC’s upcoming show, Parenthood, playing the best friend of one of the main characters.

To add more crush-factor to her resume, Hunt is also a musician, backup singer and dancer. Forget crush, I think I want to be her.

Have you been watching Friday Night Lights? What do you think of Stephanie’s portrayal of a lesbian stuck in a conservative small town?

    How many

How many conservative small towns have gay bars?  none that I have ever been to.  I remember thinking the same thing when Jenny and Moira stopped at the small town gay bar. I don't get it.

    It happens

I live in a very small and a very conservative town(...in the bible belt) with a gay bar.

    It happens.

    They absolutely happen

There are small town gay bars all ovre the US, though I can't speak for the rest of the world. Maybe not in every town, but a handful in every state.

You should check out the film Small Town Gay Bar for a look at one of them - and yes that's really teh title :)

A lot of small towns have

A lot of small towns have gay bars...they are often slightly under the radar. Either that, or a 'live and let live'. I grew up in a tiny rural farming town with one paved road and two convenience stores and one known bar. Despite this, there was a 'gay bar' for us. It was just subtle...

    Underrated show

This show is extremely well written with great acting, incredible character development and intelligent storylines.  Even though it is set primarily in high school, the show tackles (pun intended) very real issues in a mature way. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Devin.

Yes, Virginia there are Gay Bars in West Texas

I grew up 20 miles from the real Texas town that Friday Night Lights is based upon - Odessa, TX and the Permian High School panthers.  Not only did Odessa have a gay bar - it was the only one for hundreds of miles and unlike most urban gay bars, it was a real mix of ages, genders, and walks of life.

Friday Night Lights is the best show on TV

I loved Devin last season and am so happy that the character's not only back this year but has a bigger role.  The only thing is I don't have Direct TV, so I'm going to have to wait until the summer to watch the new season on NBC.  *Very* frustrating.  Thanks again for all those great programming decisions, NBC!

I love FNL !! This show is

I love FNL !! This show is amazing, and really underrated.

When they introduced this character I really hoped they would make something of it, and it looks like it's happening ! I'll have to catch up on the last episode this week end.

    omg

I created an account just because I wanted to let FNL writers know how much it means to me that they had this gay bar scene.

I am thrilled! I hope Devin gets a girlfriend. (The one she eyed was pretty cute and they'd make a nice tom-boy & lipstick lesbian pairing and it would allow them to save time introducing a new character and blah blah blah)

Anyone know if there are any plans for Devin to actually hook up or was this just to tease us?!
