New Music Tuesday: 3-16-2010

Happy Tuesday everyone!

I’m sad to be blogging from the comfort of my cold hard desk in Chicago while the South by Southwest music festival is taking place in Austin. I’ll try to hide my jealousy by showing my excitement for this week’s new music and the fact that Sia is streaming six of her new songs on her website right now and they are so good I can’t stand it.

In fact, my top spot this week goes to Sia’s preview sampler. The album itself won’t be out until June, but you will be living a sad existence if you do not go directly to her site and take in the six tracks she’s giving us to whet our appetite.

One for the TeamGhosts (Afternoon Records)

Aw, cute Midwestern kids with a great powerpop sound reminiscent of Broken Social Scene but with an added warmth.  I just stumbled upon this band but bet they’d be a lot of fun to see live.

The White StripesUnder Great Northern Lights (Third Man Records)

I mean, it’s The White Stripes — dirty Detroit rock 'n roll with a little glam thrown in for good measure. I’m not sure where Jack White finds the time to make more albums but I will be happy to listen to them.

Jessica HarpA Woman Needs (Warner Bros. Records)

If country twang is what you’re looking for, Jessica Harp is your best bet for new music to tickle your pickle this week. She’s cute, she’s got a nice voice, she has dimples — OK, she could make me boot scoot boogie.

Sorry, that’s it folks, I can’t even bring myself to give honorable mentions this week, so instead, why not download/listen to the Chick Habit podcast Trish Bendix and I put together. Heck, you can even subscribe to it via iTunes (so exciting).

White Stripes

Are AMAZING live, so not only should you get the disc of their concert, but see the DVD, too.

- super enjoyable stuff - OFTT's Ian Anderson is also the editor at Minneapolis F--ing Rocks, and it's an awesome blog - he's got great taste in tunes.

They're touring with The Eagles and Keith Urban if anyone's interested in the Chicks, like me ;) PS, LOVED Jessica Harp and Michele Branch's band The Wreckers. Their cd was amazing.
