New Music Tuesday: 10-27-09

Happy New Music Tuesday — or should I say, “Happy Sainthood Day." Sure, a few of you care about what else is happening in the world of new releases (myself included), but I’d be willing to bet that most of you just can’t wait to get your paws on a copy of the latest Tegan and Sara jams.

It’s not just you, it’s the Twitterverse too — #Sainthood has become one of the top ten trending topics on Twitter today. The Quin sisters should be very proud.

Thanks to AfterEllen.com reader AmarulaTree, I can treat my ears to the second release from the Swedish Idol runner-up. Not only is she eye candy, she’s also got a great sound. Check out the title track “Happyland."

Dragonette — Fixin to Thrill (I Surrender Records)


If the sounds of saccharine electro-pop make you feel warm inside, Toronto’s Dragonette will be just the band for you. The foursome, led by Martina Sorbara, is putting out their second album a wee bit later than expected. To apologize to their fans for making them wait just a second longer, they’ve posted a free download to their song "Pick Up the Phone." (Check the link above.)

Broadcast — Broadcast & The Focus Group Investigate Witch Cults of the Radio Age (Warp Records)


It’s been four years and they’re down a few members but Broadcast is back in the game with their 23-song lyrical dreamscape. Trish Keenan's vocals are not of this era. If you enjoy this album, definitely go back and grab 2003’s Haha Sound.

    I'm loving Sainthood so much!  It's the perfect evolution of their styles, but it's still very much Tegan and Sara.  The Ocean alone might have me converted to a Tegan lover.

    Wished mine came in the mail today =[ Canada is a long way from FL... 

    Anywho, I think its already becoming my favorite TnS album yet. But then again, I say that with each new album.  Love those guys.

    On a side note, those dudes in that pic for Broadcast look reeeeally skinny. Almost like that photoshopped model. Kinda gross. Lol.

    I agree with the bove comment about The Ocean possibly being enough to covert me to a Tegan lover! Although it's not quite there, i've still gotta stick by Sara!

    Sainthood is a brilliant album though and I absolutely love it!

    It really does feel like a Holiday - somewhere between Columbus Day and Veteran's Day without the day off. And it's all because of TnS.

    "Red Belt" has single-handledly solidified my status as an S-teamer. Hope the bundle gets here from Canada soon.

    Speaking of Canada, Dragonette is also a cool band. Listening to them now...

    I'm pretty sure Quin is spelled with one N. At least that's how they spell it on their DVDs.

    Admittedly, I'm probably a tad more excited about Swell Season's (aka Marketa Irglova and Glen Hansard) new album Strict Joy than I am for Sainthood. I've been a fan of Glen's since his early stuff with The Frames and Once is probably among my favorite albums of all time. I've heard the new album already (thanks to NPR) and it's just painstakingly beautiful. 

    Can't wait to pick it and Sainthood up later today.

    and dragonette is pretty freaking amazing - pick up the phone is an awesome track, but also check out Fixin' to Thrill!

    Thanks for writing about Amanda Jenssen. I've listened to her second album (Happyland) now, and it's extremely good. It's unique, new sound with a touch of music from the past.

    P!nk released her 41 track Funhouse Tour CD today.  It's got 13 live songs, 25 videos, a making of video, and a bloopers vid.  It's available on iTunes, not sure if it can be purchased anywhere else.

    The tour was AMAZING and this comes close to capturing the wonder and the beauty of P!ink! She is hawt!!!!

    I got mine in the mail two days ago haha! Don't know if they made a mistake with the shipping or something, but im in Aus..

    I've been converted from a T fan to a SARA fan by 'Arrow'!!

    Awesome. Loving it more than The Con for sure.

    Damn, sometimes I hate living in Europe. I could only get a hold of the legal(!) mp3-version of the record... but I'm still loving it! "Hell" just blew me away! I guess I'll simply pick up my copy at the concert in November :D

    My GF and i were out shopping the other day and came across Sainthood by accident. She knew it was coming out soon, but we were just looking in a CD store and there it was, all shiney and new lol We both love it :) T & S are just so amazing :D

    Sainthood is too good!!!  I've got it on repeat and have been rocking out at work.  My co-workers think I'm nuts, but whatev.  Countdown to T&S at Town Hall is 2 days...hope I don't explode with anticipation!!!

    I listened to sainthood on spinner.com the other day and I LOVE it. I just want to rush out and buy it. I can't wait to see them in Houston in Jan.
