A couple about to break up, a club promoter and a Shane: Casting ideas for "The Real L Word"

Love it or hate it, The Real L Word: Los Angeles is coming to a TV screen and lesbian bar near you. Even if you say you aren’t going to watch it, you probably will, “Look ma, there’s a lesbian on TV!”

So, we have to wonder — which real-life lesbians will Ilene Chaiken and her crew be choosing to portray our community out and proud on television?

We’ve already got some high-profile lesbians who have gone the reality TV route and Movieline.com put together a list of who they thought are the top 5. Their list is obvious, but great. I’m wondering whom else we can add to the list.

Here are some of my ideas of the type of people Ilene might choose to cast:

What kind of "characters" do you think the show will include, and who would you cast for it?

    Illene better bring a fresh

Illene better bring a fresh new joint! The L word played for 6 years, we need some new juice. Yeah there will be similarities with the L Word, some of which we may like but things cannot and will not be the same.

And Yeah I loved Surf Girls, that was a wicked show. :)

The casting is going to be very important if they want to make this a good show to follow.

    why dont they

just make it about ilene and her wonderfull life.  you know its what she wants and after shes done wanking her ego off maybe she can make a decent l word movie that, you know, makes sense and ties up its plotlines.

    i'm kinda ambiavalent about

i'm kinda ambiavalent about it. on one hand i'm glad there is going to be more lesbian programming, on the other hand i'm annoyed that ilene chaiken is at the helm. i have a feeling she'll mess this up in one way or another. i think you were spot on with the archetypes that they would cast, but one thing i'd like to see on the reality show version of the l-word that i barely saw on the fictional version, is diversity. this is l.a. we're talking about, it can't be that damn whitewashed. i want to see some latina, asian, and black women. and ilene won't be writing for them this time, so maybe there is hope that their narratives won't appear to be stereotypical ignorant drivel.

    I 2nd this Notion

In addition, maybe in the real world, if there is a black girl on the show, she won't wear a bun hairstyle in every episode and  won't be a naked artist in a clear box for someone to just join her and have at her in public.

    Ilene new better than that.

    shane

is the only reason i watched anything after season three. well maybe Leisha and Jennifer had something to do with it, too.

love and lust make fools of us all, but where would we be without them?

    prefer fresh faces

The problem with all of these picks for casting is that they are already "celesbians" by virtue of having done "reality" tv before.  I would prefer to see fresh faces. Dog knows there are plenty of lesbians to choose from in L.A.  I just hope that the cast has more diversity than the L Word did.

    L word

I agree with Sloane and Srict Machine. As much fun as the L word was, it didn't really seem real anymore after a while. I just ended up watching it to get it over with, not because i liked it for its diverse characters and original plotlines (which there was a weeny little of, but not enough)

I know the L Word is one of the few shows that was made for lesbians, but it still didn't actually portray real lesbians in real life. That was probably why i had so many palm-to-forehead moments and just stopped watching it.
