"Prison Break" spin-off puts women behind bars

If you're anything like me, you have little interest in watching boys run around trying to escape from other boys and the prisons they build. That's not to say I don't like Prison Break. It's not horrible, but there's just way too much testosterone. Plus, the show is starting to look a little bit like a lost puppy during this third season.

The drooping ratings and recycled story lines do not, however, dampen my enthusiasm for the the recent news that the folks in charge of Prison Break are planning a spin-off. Now, normally I'm not a big spin-off girl, unless you're talking Star Trek. But, in this case, I think I'll make an exception. Why? Because this spin-off is all about the girls.

You heard me correctly. Think of your love for the Charlie's Angels "women in prison" episode.

Now think of your love for Bad Girls.

Now imagine something a lot less campy than Sabrina and the gang and more American than Nikki and Helen. That's what Fox is cooking up for its Prison Break spin-off. Attention shoppers! Your women-in-prison fantasies are now available on aisle 6.

Fox is reportedly still trying to cast the lead role, but they have yet to find a suitable actress. Since I am a helpful sort of person, I thought I would throw some ideas at the poor befuddled producers. Perhaps you have some thoughts of your own you'd like to add as well? Feel free to chime in.

We all know that Jorja Fox needs a new gig. What say we find her one that in no way involves her shacking up with her creepy boss?

I'd love to see Claudia Christian again on a weekly basis. OK, maybe she's more the Matron Mama Morton type. Now that would be fun to watch.

I adored Lauren Velez way back in the days of New York Undercover. I got reacquainted with her in the confines of another prison on Oz. I think she's make an oustanding tough girl.

You probably all know by now that I have a deep infatuation for a certain "soup" chef. That infatuation began long before she wooed my favorite tennis player. I'd love to see Lauren Lee Smith kicking butt and taking names like she did back in her Mutant X days.

Any of these ladies would do the trick for me, but my favorite choice would be someone who could be just a little crazy. I'm thinking blonde hair, blue eyes, looks good in leather and has a voice that can either charm you or scare the pants off you, depending on her motives. I'm thinking Hudson Leick should come back to series TV.

Any other babes you'd like to see behind bars?

    Prison Break

I only got interested in Prison Break during the second season, because Sarah Wayne Callies was pretty much in every episode and I love her.
But I couldn't be bothered by the first season and I'm not sure about the third yet...

As for the spin off; it sounds good! I'm in favour of Jorja Fox behind bars. On the show, I mean. And since I love Karina Lombard a whole lot (and her accent, too) I want her behind bars too. Most women I like are too pretty to be behind bars, lol.
    I can't come up with more. Hopefully it'll be a good spin-off!

Let's face it, I'm easy. As long as there are women in chains on the lam I'll be watching. Hey, will Michelle Rodriguez be out of real jail yet? She seems like an obvious choice since she could bring her hotness and an invaluable authenticity to the roll.

How can it be considered a spin-off if it doesn't use any of the lead characters of the original show?

That being said, I think Tammy Lynn Michaels and Carly Pope would make great prisoners (in fact, I think all the Popular girls would), as would the women who played Admiral Cain and Cat (the pilot) on BSG.

However, if I could put anyone into a prison and let them run amok with their mind games, it would be Elizabeth Mitchell.

    Faith & Buffy

Eliza Dushku & Sarah Michelle Gellar would be great behind bars. We know they have attitude & can kick ass, but they also have chemistry.

I love her! The buck stops there. She should be cast, immediately.

    On the subject-

Have any of you heard about the eight prison guards in florida who were punished (one fired and several suspended) for allowing a commitment ceremony between two of the women incarcerated there?

    sweet!

I'd totally watch this. How about Lena Olin? She's proven to be hot behind bars as Irina Derevko in Alias and knows how to use a gun.

    I second that motion!

I would love to see Jorja Fox in the lead in a Prison Break-esque show. I loved her on CSI and now that she's not on it I may not even watch anymore.

    Oooh me like...

I can totally see Jorja Fox playing a bad girl in prison, ooooh what a delicious thought...

You already mentioned my other favourite - Lauren Lee Smith.  Jorja and Lauren incarcerated together on the same show?  My goodness all my fantasies come true, me like!  Me like alot!  Can this happen?  Can it?  Pretty please?

OK sure, twist my bad arm...

And while we're at it, why not toss Renee O'Connor in the mix? There's gotta be a cute little one. Ya know, the one that looks oh so innocent but is oh so baaaaad?

    Whaaaat.....

I guess the phrase "can't see for looking" applies here. At the risk of coming off like a total sycophant I'd like to see Jill Bennett get a shot. I think she'd be great because she certainly knows how to hide in a bush and that would come in handy after breaking out of prison.

    Hmmm....

I would be up to watching a show about women in prison if it's done well (more like Bad Girls and less like this seasons Prison Break).
Jorja unfortunately in her interview in Entertainment Weekly stated that she is unlikely to do another lead role for a while.  I also like Lauren Velez, but she's doing fine kicking butt as the tough talking Lt. Maria Laguerta on DEXTER.
I wouldn't mind seeing Lauren Lee Smith back together with Victoria Pratt (Shalimar and Emma back together again)... especially with all the fan fiction involving both their Mutant X characters, maybe a show like this could turn the fan fiction into reality.
I also like the idea of having Claudia Christian back on tv (I used to watch Babylon 5 solely for her).
Who knows if this idea for a show will ever see the light of day (considering what the network heads green light and don't).
If it does get the go ahead I'll be quite curious to see who actually gets a role in the show.

    Reality

I think it would be fun if they got women who had done some jail time to be behind bars for the spin off. Michelle Rodriguez, Paris, Naomi Campbell, etc. It would last long on TV but it would be very funny.

    American Bad Girls on FX?

Isn't FX working on an American "Bad Girls" as well? I thought I read that on the AE interview with Mandana Jones....

I don't think it would happen with the direction her career is going, and I know she's British, but I think Lena Heady behind bars would be down-right HOT.

Other possibilities: Kristen Johnson of 3rd Rock from the Sun fame ... Portia de Rossi, and I do think that Erin Daniels would make a cool convict ... as wood Kristianna Loken and Rose Rollins ... Hell, maybe it's just time to turn the L Word into the P Word. It might help....

Possible matrons: (your Claudia Christian referrence made me think of this one) Terry Ferrell; Kate Mulgrew (oh the women of TV space!), and Jane Lynch ... Matrons don't have to be so serious.

    Lovely Ladies

I love all of these women! Hudson Leick is just awesome. I absolutely loved her as Callisto. Add in Lauren Lee Smith and Jorja Fox - what could be better? One suggestion is Nicki Aycox. She was great as a troubled teen on "Providence" and has continued to do good work. Natasha Lyone might be good as well...
    gobalino's picture

    Yes please!

HAH!  See?  I'm not alone... Jorja and Lauren = yummy.  Hell I already have storylines running through my head.  Ok going to my happy place, I may be a while  =)

    Prison Break concept ONLY!

I heard that this show was only taking on the Prison Break concept but would actually be more like that long-running Australian women-in-prison show called "Prisoner: Cell Block H". That sounds good because Prison Break was very limited with the way that they really focused on one plot. Sounds to me like the women are going to have various plots happening with each of them. And count me in as having Jorja Fox for the lead role of Molly.
    gobalino's picture

    I can live with that...

I was a fan of Prisoner: Cell Block H, great show.  That sounds even better, oh I'm getting a little too excited at this idea.  I can't wait =)
