Dianne Wiest plays mom to Parker Posey and Lauren Ambrose

When Gilmore Girls said goodbye, many of us were left wondering when the show's creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, would be back. We don't have much longer to wait. Her new effort, The Return of Jezebel James, is part of Fox's fall lineup. Add Parker Posey and Lauren Ambrose to the mix as the show's stars, and many of us have been eagerly anticipating the show's arrival.

Then, throw in the news from TVGuide.com that yet another Oscar-winning actress is making her way to TV land. That's right, Oscar winner, Broadway star, and frequent character mom Dianne Wiest is playing mom to Posey and Ambrose.

Wiest has been bouncing around both Hollywood and the New York stages for quite some time. She knows Parenthood well, having played mom to a Footloose preacher's kid, some Lost Boys, the girl who fell for Edward Scissorhands, and a girl about to get two fathers-in-law in The Birdcage.

No word yet on whether or not Jezebel James will live up to its talent pool. In fact, you need not look very far to find some folks with serious doubts. Maybe adding Wiest to the mix will improve its chances. Maybe not.

    My favorite Diane Wiest

My favorite Diane Wiest movie was Little Man Tate, followed by The Birdcage! She made me laugh to tears! She is great!  It should be interesting to watch.

    Mine too

I love Diane Wiest!:D My favourite movie with her is Little Man Tate again. I wonder why that is.... someone with the name Jodie maybe? Haha! But Diane Wiest is one of those actresses a lot of people don't know the name of, but everybody knows. She's always a great supporting actress!

    Diane in Practical Magic

She is a pure gem. "We'd never tell them nonsense, dear..." And with Stockard Channing no less!

    Hanna and Her Sisters

I first noticed Dianne in Hanna and Her Sisters.  She was quirky enough to be interesting and neurotic enough to remind me of my family… in a good way.  But her role as the crazy Aunt in Practical Magic was sublime.  I’m not sure exactly what quality she typifies, but she brings depth to her characters.  She seems to “Wiest-ify” her roles, morphing dull one-dimension characters into people I would want to know.

The attempt and not the deed
    Confounds us.

    Parenthood

Lauren Ambrose, Parker Posey, and Dianne Wiest?   Criminy, it doesn’t get much better than that!

Well, unless they threw in, say, a leather-clad Catherine Keener.  rawrrrr……

best DW flick – Parenthood (and Mary Steenburgen and Martha Plimpton).

    FOX

Let's hope this show is great from the first episode. FOX is notorious for canceling things before they get hold of an audience.

    I LOOOOOOOOOOVE Parker Posey

I LOOOOOOOOOOVE Parker Posey and even I can't get behind this one. I mean, they could bring on Jesus to play the dad and I'd still be skeptical. It literally hurts me to watch the trailer.
