Rack 'em up: The women of the WPBA

Lately I've been watching billiards every time I happen to catch a broadcast on ESPN. Over the holidays, I watched Allison Fisher win the Women's Professional Billiards Association Championship, and shortly after that I watched Karen Corr win the WPBA Midwest Classic. (Fisher is English and Corr is Irish — they were both raised on snooker, I'm guessing?)

And this past weekend, I caught some of the World Cup of Trick Shots, featuring Jeanette Lee and Ewa Laurance. Ewa is fascinating — not only is she stunning and skilled, but when she serves as an announcer for the tournaments, she's smart and funny. No wonder they call her the Striking Viking.

Wouldn't you love to meet those two at a bar for a game of 8-ball? On second thought, maybe I'd just watch them play — though I might be able to hold my own if we played Wii Billiards instead. I wonder what my billiards nickname would be? Probably Miss Cue.

    I watched that tournament over the holidays, too, and my gaydar was going off like crazy. Women's billiards is the only "sport" I like to watch. I guess because it's the only activity involving balls that I would really like to be good at. (Alas, I have never even played.)

    This is really funny. I used to watch this with my dad when we were flipping channels randomly and I always loved it because to me it was one of the few moments where I KNEW I was looking at a bunch of lezzies on TV.

    I have no idea if it's true or not but the gaydar definitely goes "ding ding ding" whenever ANY of these women are playing (more strongly Karen Corr than anyone)

    I use to watch billiards alot growing up. I had no idea why when I got to college and started to shoot pool; it all made sense to me....I was gay. I use to think I was only good at pool b/c I was half-asian...nope, just gay.

    I always hoped for Allison Fisher but I think she is married...oh well!

     I'm so glad you're doing this aricle.  Pool is one of my favorite sports though I'm not good at as some of these ladies. I like Jeannette Lee the best.  I tried to pick up some of her badass  tricks when watching her. My gaydar goes on  Karen Corr (DING DONG!) Possibly Kelly Fisher and Monica Webb. I hoping the other ladies are too. A lady can only dream.

     i love a good game of billiards i'm better at it than softball...Ewa Laurance is definately one to watch(even though she isn't on team USA)but,when her and the Black Widow are playing i'm totally content right where i am (like those people playing guitar hero in the middle of the street.) lol.

    i'm not sure if that's my gaydar or my fire alarm ringing but,its hot as hades in here......."ladyj"

    Gerda hofstetter I'm not sure if thats how you spell her last name. She and Allison Fisher (my fav) run a billiard training thingy together. I always figured they were together. Both Ewa and Jeanette are married, besides them I think the rest of them are gay.

    DEF one to watch on this circ is Tiffany Nelson, they girl can PLAY -- and may well be gay -- I saw her against a few of those girls mentioned, and she played fabulously and she's UNDER 30

    I learned how to play in Ireland (love those irish student union bars!) and have evolved as a kinda decent player. My cue is probably THE most prized posession of mine and one of the best gifts my girl ever gave me. I live for beating my buddy at a best of five. Tricks I can't do (at least not on a pool table), but these ladies mean serious business! Great post.
