Two ravishing Rachels are better than one

Rachel McAdams has been tapped for the title role in The Time Traveler's Wife, the film adaptation of the bestselling novel by Audrey Niffenegger.

McAdams plays a young heiress who struggles with her man's strange genetic disorder: When he gets stressed out, he slips into a different time. Wow. Some coping mechanism. (Eric Bana plays the time traveler, who is also a librarian. I have a feeling the American Library Association is going to celebrate this one.)

I think McAdams' career could be a very long one. I'm currently making my way through the first season of Slings and Arrows, and she steals every scene she's in. (Slings and Arrows, by the way, is totally worth Netflixing if you have any interest in theater, Canada, or just really, really good TV.) McAdams was also the only good part of The Family Stone. If the only thing you've seen her in is Mean Girls, don't assume she's anything like Regina!

Meanwhile, another of my fave Rachels, Rachel Griffiths, has the "Spotlight" in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly. She proves to be as smart, complicated and funny as she seems, offering up quotes like these:

“In Australia, we’re not that far from ‘Honey, can you help me pull the sheep out of the dam?’ We’re not really far from being settlers.”

I wish I could bring myself to like Brothers and Sisters more, because I do adore Griffiths. Adore, admire, lust after. And I'll admit that the most recent episode of B&S was pretty good, though I think they totally made up that CGN ("Common Gay Name") thing. Or am I just out of the loop (again)?

On a related note, it seems the new executive editor of EW, Lori Majewski, used the Griffiths interview to lob an attack against her former employer, Us magazine. Griffiths rails against magazines that classify all women as either "madonnas or whores." Well, she does have a point, but I sorta doubt feminism was Majewski's motivation.

    I tried to like it

God, I love Rachel Griffiths.  And even tho I tried to like B&S, it just wasn’t happening for me.  But the KT Tunstall cover kicks serious ass.  That girl can sing.  Mad talent, right there.

    McAdams!! :]

The only reason why I watched The Family Stone is because of Rachel.
I regretted it afterwards, but she was great!! Hilarious..
I think she's one of those actresses that are gonna be around for a long long time.. or at least i hope so!

ps: yeahh i agree with you zarathustra.. KT Tunstall rocksssss!!!

    McAdams

I don't know about you all, but I prefer the brunette to the blonde look she sported in the beginning.

    time traveler's wife

i've been waiting for this movie. i remember when brad pitt's production co. bought the rights to the book and there was talk of brad playing henry (the time traveler) and my immediate reaction was MEH.

not sure how i feel about rachel mcadams playing claire. it's not who i pictured. actually after reading the book 10 times i usually go through the slew of current actresses and none of them come across as fitting the bill. hmmm i'll have to wait and see but i can't think of a better actor to play henry than eric bana.

    Time Traveller's Wife..

is one of my favourite books and I've been dreading seeing what mess they make of it in a film adaptation. To me, Rachel McAdams is the only choice to play Claire, anybody else would suck, I actually pictured her whilst reading the book and think she could pull off the 20+ year age range Claire goes through.

Erik Bana as Henry..meh better choice would be Ryan Goslin but it would be way to similar to the Notebook (altho IMO not necessarily a bad thing).

PS. Am I the only person who loved the family stone??

    McAdams as Claire = Perfection

Ahh... I am so thrilled that you decided to blog about this!

The Time Travelers Wife is my all-time favorite book... ever... and I have been praying that Rachel McAdams would be cast as Claire! She is not only one of my favorite actresses, but she is one of the only actresses I can see pulling off this role!

    I am so excited!

    Also...

Eric Bana as Henry is also stellar casting... as long as you make sure to think of Eric Bana from Troy and not Eric Bana from Hulk.
