TV alerts: "Sarah Connor," basketball, "Scandal"OK, I'll admit it: I gave up on The Sarah Connor Chronicles after the third episode. For me, Lena Headey's hotness just couldn't make up for the convoluted story lines and John's terrible acting. But I know I'm in the minority, and plenty of people love the show.
Tonight's two-hour season finale has a very tantalizing description: "Sarah enters into a business deal with a mysterious partner." If only Piper Perabo were playing the partner. Meanwhile, if real-life showdowns are more your style, there's another finale tonight: the women's college basketball Big East regular-season title game. UConn takes on Rutgers at 7/6c on ESPN2.
And there's one more face-off tonight — probably the most dramatic one. Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett give female bonding a new meaning in Notes on a Scandal at midnight/11c on HBO2. The film polarized lesbian audiences (at least here on AfterEllen.com — see my take and Malinda's for examples), but no matter how you feel about it, you'll probably be fascinated.

hey, uh
I'm not telling you not to watch it. I'm just telling you why I don't watch it. And obviously I still bothered to do the TV alert!
Sigh. Why not offer some reasons you like it, instead of attacking me personally?
Rude much?
TIVO Sarah Connor
66-46 UCONN!! that's right
Monday Night TV Reminders
It took me a while to get inot the gist of TSCC style. I love it. After Jenn and Dee's recaps, I pretty much understood where the writers are going. It got interesting after that, scribbegrrl. Much to your own. I wish I had ESPN 2 to watch Rutgers and U coon go at it.
Thanks for the tv reminders.
We Love 'The Sarah Connor Chronicles'!
I have to say we're loving the Sarah Connor Chronicles in my household. It started airing here in the UK a couple of weeks ago. It's SO fast paced and we can't resist girlies kicking ass... I admit it's a little hard to keep up with but...... Lena Headey and Summer Glau are so great in it. So, so far so good.... now that 'Mistresses' has finished, there's a bit of a gap in our telly viewing on a tuesday night!
Mistresses
I gave up on Sarah Connor
I LOVE BASKETBALL!!!
that's all i wanted to say. i watch more men's than women's (because my team isn't that great this year)..
oh and what's up with calling Scribe an idiot
Uncouth
thanks!
(Your screen name is mind-boggling! Gosh.)
I still can't decide how I
I still can't decide how I feel about the Sarah Connor Chronicles, which is pretty bad, seeing as it's the season finale and all.
I enjoy the hotness, and the fast-paced actiony stuff is okay. It's just not enough to get me hooked.
I just feel like it's missing something.
And as for the other two... I don't watch much in the way of sports. It's definitely not my thing. With Notes on a Scandal- We don't have any "premium" cable channels. I think right now we have 78. So it's like. Mid-level cable. Plus, I'm still in high school, and have to get up at 5:00. I'm not going to be starting a movie at 11:00 and being dead in the morning. Er, more dead than normal. ;D
And Nathiest? That just seems uncalled for. I mean, does she not have the right to state her thoughts on the matter? Why feel the urge to insult?
Thanks and T:SCC
Hi Scribe,
Thanks for the TV alerts and for all the work you put into your posts. I don't post very often, but felt like today would be a good time to let you know how much I appreciate what you do. I'll be watching the Sarah Connor Chronicles tonight. If/When watching, I recommend tuning out John Connor's whining (which means ignoring this character A LOT). It helps me focus on the cool parts of the show. Here's my top 5:
1-2) Lena Headey and Summer Glau
3) Female-driven action show
4) Cameron has a knack for delivering one-liners
5) It's kinda fun to try to figure out what the heck is going on in the same way I enjoyed trying to figure out the X-Files and Donnie Darko (minus the scary rabbit).
March Madness
Ouch.
That Rutgers-UConn game....
Painful.

I think it's pretty good. Not mind-blowingly great, but good. The plot is convoluted, but it feels like it's going somewhere and that everything actually does fit together. Unlike some scifi shows, it doesn't feel like the writers are making it up as they go along (yes, I'm talking to you, BSG).
However, I agree with the person who said that there's "something missing" that keeps it from being great. I think that thing is truly compelling characters. I know she's popular on this site, but Lena Headey's Sarah is just not a strong enough lead character to carry the show. It may also be in the way she's written, but I think it's mainly that the actress, though good, is just too low-key to make the character an iconic figure. Summer Glau, on the other hand, steals the show every episode. Cameron is by far the most memorable character. She's enough to keep me tuned it. I especially love it when it follows her interactions with people at the high school, maybe because it reminds me a lot of Buffy.
Scribegrrrl, don't listen to the nasties!
As the future founding mother of the Scribegrrrl Fan Club, I reckon we are going to have to form a posse to combat any of the nasty comments directed Scribegrrrl's way.
Scribegrrrl, I enjoy your opinions a bit too much, perhaps because you seem to echo mine, just a million times more eloquently! And there are thousands of us out here that feel the same way. And I will admit I stopped watching the chronicles after the second episode or perhaps midway through when the laundry was ready to be folded.
Keep on blogging, we love you!
thanks, you awesome people
And keinlurker, that is an excellent viewing tip, to tune out the whining. I bet it'd work for just about everything. It might have even saved Cashmere Mafia for me.
(Nah.)
scribegrrrl, you are not the only one.
I really really really wanted to like Sarah Connor and her chronicles...but something is missing for me.
But I do like me some Lena and didn't want to miss out on her completely...and so, I came up with a compromise for myself.
I copied all the episodes to DVD and then watch by fast-forwarding to all the good Lena scenes.
:)
I have to admit
that Lena Headey's hotness is enough to make up for the convoluted plotlines and everything else that is wrong with the show. Being that I don't live in the US, only a select few shows make it to my 'must download' list and T:TSCC is one of them.
It's a great action show with a few core characters, something I've missed on TV of late. I hope they get the go ahead for another season (and that it comes to TV here in NZ!)
i agree with Alcy, it's one
let's hope it gets picked up for another season. i'm not happy with it being such a short run, damn writers strike!
