TV alerts: Melanie Lynskey on "Two and a Half Men," plus the debut of "Samantha Who?"

Tonight on ABC, Christina Applegate's new series Samantha Who? premieres. Time Out New York calls it "easily the best new sitcom of the fall crop, though there's an extent to which that's damnation with faint praise." I feel like I've heard almost nothing about this show, but it might be worth a look, especially with costars like Jean Smart, Jennifer Esposito and Melissa McCarthy (Gilmore Girls).

Over on CBS, Melanie Lynskey (But I'm a Cheerleader, Heavenly Creatures) guest stars on Two and a Half Men, which should really be called Two Hotties when Lynskey and Holland Taylor show up.

    Guest Star?

Is Melanie Lynskey no longer a recurring character on the show?

    well

Time Out New York calls her a "former cast member," so that's what I was going by. And there's more here: http://www.melanie-online.org/ -- they use phrases like "left the show," so I guess she wasn't necessarily expected to return.

    I ♡ Melanie Lynskey

I love Melanie Lynskey ever since Heavenly Creatures... but it was her adorable turn in the lesbian short film
The Nearly Unadventurous Life of Zoe Cadwaulder that solidified my adoration for Melanie.  The only reason I ever tuned in to 2 1/2 men was for Melanie and Holland and when Melanie left, so did I.

P.S. If you needed 2 other reasons to love Melanie, she counts as one of her best friends an After Ellen favorite, Emily Deschanel (Bones) and is married to Jimmi Simpson, who starred in D.E.B.S. as Lucy Diamond's right hand man, Scud.

Update: For those who have not yet seen The Nearly Unadventurous Life Of Zoe Cadwaulder or were unable to view it on LOGO online... the movie is one of several short films that appears on the DVD Girls on Film 3, which I purchased through www.power-up.net.

Also on the DVD is the short film D.E.B.S. (which led to the feature length film), Little Black Boot (with new Heroes cast member Dania Ramirez), Intent (with Holland Taylor), Stuck, Chicken Night, Breaking Up Really Sucks (Alexandra Paul), Fly Cherry and Give Or Take An Inch (Amanda Bearse and Michele Greene).
