TV alerts: "Cashmere Mafia," movie myths

Tonight at 10/9c, Cashmere Mafia takes its regular spot on ABC. Early numbers aren't great, but let's hope viewers give the show a second chance so we can see how Caitlin's story line turns out. (What I really mean is "more kissing, please.")

If you missed the first episode, read bad machine's hilarious recap. Here's one of my favorite bits, about Mia's engagement:

I can see her being that kind of newlywed: the woman who can't resist inserting the word "husband" into every sentence she utters for the entire first year of marriage. It's a common heterosexual woman's form of Tourette's, but without the amusing shock value.

If mythical New York isn't your thing, try MythBusters on the Discovery Channel at 9/8c. It's a repeat, but a good one: The crew tests various movie myths, like crazy car jumps and shooting a padlock open. All the research you need for your weekend Thelma and Louise reenactment!

Side note: While doing some Googling for this post, I found this FHM photo of mythbuster Kari Byron. Eww.

    yep

Yep, I'm watching Cashmere Mafia again tonight even though I didn't like it too much the first time. Hopefully it will get good because otherwise I don't know if it will last since lipstick jungle is going to start soon and it is also getting a lot of hype and they are freakishly similar.

I wasn't too into the pilot, but I didn't think it was bad.  Just not that clever.  But I'll continue to watch it when I happen to see it on, if only because there almost isn't anything else scripted on tv anymore.

I did like how it portrayed the women in business.  They're so successful and unapologetic about it, which I really like.  I hope that at least one of them (zoe, perhaps) gets to have a relationship with a partner who is supportive of her success, so it doesn't turn into another show about how heterosexual women can't have a happy marriage and a successful career because men can't support women in their careers.  the only storyline more tired is every lesbian spending every waking moment dealing with pregnancy and custody battles.

t's not just a terrible idea to put in the heads of young women (choose between love and a successful career!) it's also insulting to men.  Don't we all know straight men who are happy with being with a woman who is successful, even perhaps more successful than he is?

    What in the world...

That looks photoshoped and that looks disgusting.

    it's surprising that a show...

... which comes in #2 for the evening in its non-regular timeslot is called disappointing simply because it didn't retain the entire audience from the show preceeding it (a very last scripted episode of DP, thus making it a season finale) and that it lost some viewers at the halfway point - which is very normal.

but having 10.7 million viewers watch is nothing to sneeze at, especially when most shows this last season were only pulling in roughly an average of 6-8 milion.

then if we add in the new DVR ratings system, one could argue that Cashmere Mafia is a bonified hit.

perhaps our expectations have become too high when requiring immediate success. this could be the reason that most shows nowadays aren't given the time to find their voice and an audience like they use to - Seinfield, Gilmore Girls, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the Office, etc.

if no one supports the potential of a show - until it has proven itself to be futile - then you can expect that you'll always lose those shows, right when you see that they have something to offer that you want.

    Did you just ewww Kari?

Did you just ewww Kari Byron? Bad people! Baaaad people! =D But I must admit, that photo wasn't very flattering. But it earned her an invite to Letterman (yeah, eww.)

And.. Am I the only one who absolutely loved the first episode of Cashmere Mafia? Just bad that my viewing isn't noticed. And isn't it possible that all you gay girls in the US watched TLW and will be tuning in when CM airs tonight?

    nope...

Nope, I loved the show. Lucy Liu kind of annoys me but then she usually does. I'm waitinf to see where they go with her but I love all the other characters and i'll probably tune in next ime (alright, I'll be erm... borrowing it from the internet but still, I'm in holland! what did you expect?!)

And indeed, there will be NO ewwwing of Kari. Not a good picture, I agree, but that woman rules!

Who you gonna be if you can't be yourself,
you can't get it from t.v., you can't force it on
    anybody else.

    Yeah! Kari rules!

    Yeah! Kari rules!

I liked the whole episode but I loved the fast pace and the funny reactions. I'll be borrowing tuning in to the next one (in Sweden).

    "Don't Tell her to Relax"

I heard the show was alright. Here's an article from DailyCents.com I found interesting, might make me watch it to see how it is. Here's the link:http://blogs.dailycents.com/?p=796#comment-9094

    Mythbusters

Thanks for the heads up. I just learned that if you jump off a building and your fall is broken by a series of awnings, you'll probably survive. Good to know.

    Oh Kari

She looks so much better on the show. She is one of those examples of not needing to sex it up to actually look hot.

    Cashmere Mafia rocks!

I loved cashmere mafia! I think it completey trumps the season 5 premier of the l word.

It's a great show that can explore the lives of successful women, who despite being successful and fabulous are still confined into societal norms or expectations (e.g. Jack leaving Mia cos she has become more successful that him). It questions a lot women's roles in society and this would be the first show to explore that. I'd love to see how their lives will turn out in the future. I give it an A+.

    Mafia

I really enjoyed the show.  I thought that it would be too much like "Sex in the City" but it was original.  I read a great article talking about the show and specifically about men saying "Relax" to woman that everyone should read at http://blogs.dailycents.com/?p=796Words

    Best. TV Show. So far.

OH MY GOD... can't believe it! I've falling in love with this show. It's great!! All I can say is... when I grow up I want to be just like that!

    1st episode:

Juliet - "Look around. Look at all our friends. (...) I'm going to take one of them for my lover (...)" <- just to level the score with her husband who has had an affair (another one by the way).

    2nd episode:

Zoe - "I understand you hinting on my husband. He's a good looking man (...)" <- after catching one of her childrens' friends home mom's flirting with her husband (which he confirmed after her confrontation).

This is just why I love women. They can always take it home and execute the most destructive/effective come back ever!

GOD, I LOVE THIS SHOW! (did I mention that?)

Can't wait for Mia and Caitlin to get in the spot too ;)
