TV alert: Oprah goes "Gay Around the World" on Wednesday

No, this is not a lame Oprah/Gayle joke (even though those often make me giggle). On Wednesday, The Oprah Winfrey Show offers a very special live episode. Here's a press blurb:

Tune in LIVE on Wednesday, October 24 when The Oprah Winfrey Show travels the globe for a look into the lives of gays and lesbians in the U.S. and worldwide. Go behind the headlines to see the secret lives of gays in Iran. Meet an Indian prince whose coming out caused a controversy in his homeland. Plus, meet inspiring gay couples and families from around the world.

You can watch a preview on the show's official website. In that clip, you'll see that Staceyann Chin will be one of the guests. Sounds intriguing and definitely worth DVRing!

Check the blog tomorrow to see how it all plays out when Oprah says, "Thanks for the show idea, Ahmadinejad!"

    Hm

I'm interested to see how this plays out.  I saw a documentary once regarding this same issue and was just hearbroken when I learned what people in other areas of the world go thru.
Its nice that Oprah is doing this, I appreciate her bringing her far reaching voice to such an issue, and hopefully it sends the right message.

    Oprah

Damn, this means I'll have to skip Judge Judy tomorrow and watch Oprah instead. Ah well, maybe Oprah will tell someone to zip it.

I guess Serbia will not be

I guess Serbia will not be included in the worldwide part, because we do NOT have gays here (just ask anybody on the street)!!! But, what we really do not have is a single gay bar (or something) in a city of 600.000. Talking about a secret life…and plenty of house parties.

    I will be watching.

    That's for sure.

    Woo..

    I saw the clip...

and it looks like the show will be good. I'm interested in Staceyann Chinn's story as well as the Prince from India's story. I gotta find somebody to tape the show for me. I'll be at work when it is on tomorrow. Sigh. I think it's beautiful that a straight celeberity like Oprah continues to educate or expose her audiences about LGBTQI community. My heart will be sad if she leaves television. There are a lot of television talk shows that puts out so much trash on their shows. It has become toxic to the human environment. I hope AE does a recap about tomorrow's show.

    I feel for Staceyann

just saw her story on oprah. it's so sad, but i get where she's coming from, being from the Caribbean myself. Homophobia is the norm not the exception. There are some places in this world where people just can't be themselves and it's so sad. When i hear people make comments sometimes i just want to say that's not right that's ignorant and offending.

Will this be made available online? I can't watch cuz I'm not in the US. Oprah torrents are usually hard to get :(

    IT'S NOT FARE OPERA

    IT'S NOT FARE OPERA

IT'S NOT FARE TO TALK ABOUT GAY AROUND THE WORLD AND NOT TO TALK ABOUT GAY IN IRAN.
IT'S NOT FARE TO TALK ABOUT GAY MALE IN IRAN AND NOT TO TALK ABOUT IRANIAN LESBIAN.

    IT'S NOT FARE OPERA

WE ARE AN IRANIAN LESBIAN COUPLE WHO HAVE WROTE ARE STORY LIFE TO MANY TIMES FOR YOU.but have been ignored.

WE WANTED TO TALK ABOUT OUR LIFE WHICH HAS BEEN TAKEN AWAY FROM US BY IRANIAN REGIM JUST BECAUSE WE ARE LESBIANS.

WE ARE REFUGEES RIGHT NOW AND OUR LIFE IS IN DANGER.

OPERA TALKs ABOUT GAY BUT IGNORE THE LESBIANS IN IRAN.

we are two activis and we have published the first iranian lesbian e-magazine
Our goal is to help iranian lesbian who no one has heard from them untill now.

Being a lesbian is not a crime. We didn't choice to be lesbian it's our nature, but we have right to live. Don't we? Why our punishment of being lesbian should be execution, stoning and hanging. Our only crime is to be in love, there have been other Iranian lesbian who had this situation but no one heard their voice. They have been arrested, raped, lashed but no one did help them. Some of them got refugee statue in some country and some of them were vanished and no one looked for them. Beside all our problems of being a lesbian in Iran and how we told our parents about our self and what the make us to go through (psychologist ,hormone doctors ,...all kind of doctors that our parents send us to change our sexual orientation) the government also wants to kill us because of being lesbian
