TV alert: "How to Look Good Naked"

Tonight at 9 p.m. on Lifetime, Carson Kressley's new show premieres. The Queer Eye guy will help women of all shapes and sizes learn How to Look Good Naked. It could be kind of awesome, if this quote is any indication:

"The point of the show is to say you don't have to be perfect to be beautiful. You can still be who you are and find beauty."

The show focuses on self-image, not just fashion — though, come on, it's Carson: There's bound to be a lot of fashion! I hope he'll at least help someone find the perfect pair of jeans. (That's a lot tougher for women, Carson, so good luck!)

    Ugh

Sweden can just not have been before the US with this. Well, ok, maybe we were. But I bet that the UK beat us to it (, they always do). The Swedish version of this show was boring. But I guess it worked for the women. But still, seeing yourself naked on a giant billboard? Yikes. =) Hope this version is better, it's Carson!

    wow

normally, I think these shows are beyond stupid.  But I love it, and it makes me feel good about myself.  And it's not about how to make yourself look skinnier naked (or clothed), but feeling good about yourself.  It is cheesy and lame (and it will never replace Friday Night Lights in my life), but if I see a rerun sometime, I'll watch it.

    The British version of this

The British version of this show kills me. Here in Iceland, it's on right after Top Model, so I find myself sucked into How To Look Good Naked every. single. week! It's a pretty good idea - make women feel confident about their bodies, but I just cannot stand the guy who runs the show! Two things about the British version that bother me most:

1: How every week, he goes through their underwear and throws all of it out, because apparently you are only allowed to own sexy lingerie, or the very, very ugly kind that goes from your knees all the way up to your neck, and smooths out all those fat parts of you. I just don't understand what's wrong with regular cotton underwear - I don't need anything else for school or work, although the other stuff can be nice to own, too!

2: How every week he picks out ridiculous outfits for the women, with no respect to their personal style. Sure, it's probably nice to have a pro go shopping with you - but I know I prefer to wear a certain style of clothing, and feel stupid in others.

But the really do a good job showing that every body, no matter what shape or size, can be beautiful, just by casually including shots of everyday women in many parts of the show.

    hmm..

the show itself wasn't half bad for a reality show.

How to look good naked UK

I really like 'How to look good naked' UK version. Gok Wan is so nice and encouraging rather then focusing on what was bad about the woman's body he focused on the good things. Although now it gets a bit boring when he asks them if they wiill do the naked photoshoot or the catwalk because they always say yes

    I agree!

The fact that Gok specifically pointed out all the good/attractive attributes rather than linger on what a particular woman found unaatractive was what had me tune in regularly.

    How to look good naked

I watched this last night and I enjoyed it because it is refreshing to see a body that is not "perfect" but I felt like they were also encouraging people to be ok with being overwieght which has a lot of health problems associated with it, which makes me not sure about the show.

    I see what you're saying

I see what you're saying about encouraging people to be ok with being overweight. I'm all about people being healthy; eating right and exercising. But it seems that women aren't really concerned with their health; they care more about their image.

I've been around a lot of women trying to lose weight and it's always been about how they look and rarely about health concerns. So they diet and exercise in a way that is actually unhealthy, just so they can look good. Of course they fail to stay on the diet or they can't keep up with the three hour a day work out routine they've concocted for themselves; and, they end up gaining the weight back or more and never actually made any healthy choices.

With the right balance, I hope this can help lead women to gain some well needed (and deserved) self esteem; so they can concentrate on being healthy and not on how they look in a pair of jeans.

I caught this show today by

I caught this show today by accident and watched with great reluctance--and I was TOTALLY sucked in.  It was really nice, actually.  I found some of the "exercises" to help the woman look at her weight differently interesting, and although the spa portion bored me, she sure did seem to feel good about herself by the end.  I think anything aimed at making women feel better about themselves is fantastic and I hope this show does well!
