TV alert: Ann Wilson reigns over VH1 Classic on SundayI've been singing Ann Wilson's praises for about 25 years now. It usually goes something like this:
Uh, I think I just conflated that with an incident with a neighbor kid when I was seven. Anyway. The point is, Ann has been getting some attention lately — finally.
Heart recently stole the show at the VH1 Rock Honors, and on Sunday, Sept. 9, Ann will host VH1 Classic's afternoon programming. At 3:00 p.m. ET, the Rock Honors show will be rebroadcast. At 5:00, Ann previews her new album Hope & Glory on Inside Track. And at 5:30, she counts down Women Who Rock — including herself, if VH1 Classic doesn't want me to kick it out. (Yessss! Inadvertent Heart song reference!) Ann's new solo album, which comes out Sept. 11, is an eclectic collection of tunes. Wilson notes, "Each of these songs holds a special place in my soul ... such songs as these carry me through my life." Hope & Glory includes duets with k.d. lang and Elton John and features an awesome version of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" (visit Ann's MySpace page for a preview). The woman's voice just gets better and better. And I'll keep singing her praises for as many decades as I have to. Here's some vintage Heart, if you still don't know why you should care. "Crazy on You" highlights Nancy's amazing fingers as well as Ann's killer voice: Submitted by on September 7, 2007 - 4:24pm. |

Gotta check out her new album when it comes.
flashback
Thanks for posting this!
Crazy on me..
Oh Scribegrrrl, you bring back such fond memories. Heart so rocks my house….still. Hope you kicked that kid in the shin. Lightly of course.:)
Nice cleavage shot of Ann. That rocks my house too. Mmmm. And I'm looking forward to Sunday also.
Thanks again grrrl.
As always
Heart Rocks!
I've had the privilege of seeing them 3 times in the last 4 years. Sadly I missed the last concert. I've loved them since "Magic Man" was released. I ended up with every album then every CD and a few DVD's. Can't wait to get my hands on Ann's new release.
Thanks for the heads up Scribegrrrl, I'll be tuning in.
Looove
I love Heart.. first concert I ever went to. I was born in 76 so I caught them during the Brigade stuff. I was soo amazed by them I bought all their _tapes_.
Nancy Wilson made me want to play guitar so I took up lessons when I was a teen :-) When I was reading up on them I got so annoyed at how the media treated our ladies. So annoying!
Rock On Ladies!!
I've been a Heart Monger since I was 15 years old. Even though it was a song that Nancy sang "Stranded", I ended up falling in love with both sisters. Ann's voice just **warning, Heart lyric incoming** CHILLS ME TO THE BONE. I've had the luxury of seeing the Ladies in concert three times. The second time I saw them, it was just Ann and Nancy...acoustic. And I tell you, it was amazing. Acoustic versions of all the favorites...and when they did "Barracuda", I just about lost it. I was experiencing that one singular moment where it's just you and the performers...the rest of the world was being locked out...it was HEAVEN!!!
I don't know if there is such a thing as an eargasm, but if there is, I experienced SEVERAL that night.
The last time I caught the Ladies in concert was in 2003. It was a hot day in Muskegon for the Summer Celebration. It was easily 90 degrees plus. I saw the tour bus drove by and then I heard the sound check. I heard the band wail into "Magic Man" and then I heard Ann's rockin' voice. In the Michigan heat, I was getting goose bumps. It was AWESOME!!!
Anyway, I could go on...but there is simply not enough time to tell all I feel about the Ladies.
I have Nancy's autograph on an album cover...
Ann & Nancy Wilson = Rock Goddesses
Thank you for the nice write up on Ann Wilson!!! If only we got these programs in Canada…GRRRRR! It tears me up that I won’t be able to see the two shows you mentioned …WAAA.
I am SO looking forward to the release of Ann Wilson's first solo album named "Hope & Glory" being released this Sept 11th! Heart is touring this summer/fall 2007 & if you have the opportunity, catch one of their concerts as they are phenomenal live! I plan on seeing them in concert once again when they return to Canada in October.
When I saw Heart perform in Seattle on Aug 23rd, they debuted two of the songs appearing on Ann's upcoming album. They slayed me with a wonderfully re-worked "Immigrant Song" and a shiver inducing version of the John Lennon penned "Isolation"! "Isolation" is one of the songs I am most looking forward to on Ann's album and when they launched into the song in Seattle that night, I was overwhelmed! Gawd, it was SOOOOOOOOO good!!! I was absolutely BLOWN away!
Seeing Ann & Nancy live in performance equals AMAZING & there is nothing quite like it. Locking eyes with Ann while she is channeling all her energy into her performance, hearing and FEELING that voice, is a visceral transformative experience like no other I’ve had.
I took one of my very best pals to Seattle for her first ever Heart concert and she couldn't stop talking about the show after the concert and all the next day (actually she's STILL talking about the show).
She too has now had the Wilson transformative experience.
OMG!! i just saw Heart in
OMG!! i just saw Heart in concert last month, thefirst time i saw the was in 1990. they were better now then they were then. They are so awesome. see them if you can. you will not regret it.
heart and olivia cruise
Heart is going to be rockin' the boat for a special one night performance in Ft. Lauderdale on Olivia's Cruise For Our Cause, a Caribbean cruise benefitting the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation. March 30-April 6, 2008.
Heart will be performing on the dock before the cruise leaves port. I find it amazing that heart is teaming up with Olivia Cruises. I have been a heart monger forever. Have the autographed billboard magazine from the early 80's framed and hanging in my living room.
Cheers,
me
Striking resemblance.
Ann on Rockline Radio Wednesday September 12, 2007
I just learned that Ann Wilson is going to be on Rockline Radio this Weds, Sept. 12, 2007! http://rocklineradio.com/
"Hope & Glory" is being released tomorrow! YEAH!!! I'd sure like to go on that Olivia Cruise March 30-April 6, 2008. Tres Cool that Heart is involved with Cruise For Our Cause!
Incredible album
I've been playing Hope & Glory at a LOUD volume, on Repeat, since I bought it today. I'm just floored. i didn't expect it to be this good. Mind you I'm a Heart fan since I was a kid and I love 98% of their stuff. I could have done without the 80s with the exception of Alone & Wait for an Answer (and yes I bought all those records), but I digress. The difference between the Wilson Sisters and other rockers is that Ann & Nancy are musicians. They can pick up any instrument and play with mastery. They can work in any musical genre. They can harmonize and they rock hard. And Ann's voice is just unbelievably powerful. Even now, she gives me chills. Hope & Glory gives me the very same chills I get when I see them in concert. I just love how Ann can go from singing with Elton, tear it up on Isolation, and bring it down for some blue grass/country and then put a STAMP on the Immigrant Song. BTW, I love the violin work on the album. Yes, Hope & Glory is all over the place and somehow it's all the same place. I'm amazed what she has done with these songs; Admittedly one can't go too wrong with classic songs, but Ann makes them all new again. Goodbye Blue Sky is stunning. Same goes for so many others. It's hard to pick an absolute favorite, but I think Ann's very own Little Problems, Little Lies takes the ribbon. Or maybe Elton's Where to now, St. Peter? I can't pick. I give up. But I kinda wish she also included Misty Mountain Hop, but I guess that wouldn't fit the theme of the album.
Awww ta-HEY!
Sagittarius = part ass + part dude with a weapon, what's not to love?
