Trailers: "Speed Racer," "Dark Matter," "Stop-Loss"

I'm not ready to commit to an entire movie for the weekend, so I thought I'd check out some trailers instead.

First, the new Speed Racer trailer surfaced this week. If Christina Ricci and Susan Sarandon weren't enough reason to see this one, this trailer has convinced me that it's worth the ticket price. Moviefone.com desribes it as "Andy Warhol meets the Jetsons." Nice!

Next, I hadn't even heard of Dark Matter, starring Meryl Streep, Aidan Quinn and Liu Ye.

The film tells the story of a Chinese science student who can't quite cope with the pressures of American academia.



Dark Matter premieres April 11.

Finally, Kimberly Peirce's new film Stop-Loss premieres March 28. If I didn't know Peirce was the director of Boys Don't Cry, I don't think I'd be able to tell from the trailer — it looks like a very different sort of movie.



The official website has a "make your own trailer" feature, though, if you want to try to create something more Peirce-esque. Or if you just want to waste some time on a Friday afternoon!

    Speed Racer looks better than what you'd expect, but then it is the Wachowski brothers. Dark Matter looks deep and poignant, plus I'm drawn to intellectual madness (though I hated a Brilliant Mind, but that was for other reasons). And finally, Stop Loss really struck a nerve for me. Possibly because it's real, possibly because these men, these soldiers, are totally treated like pawns by an administration that has issues with truth and accountability. Not that this is anything new, but their hubris is maddening.

    I saw "Stop-Loss" at an early screening in Chicaogo- Kimberly Pierce really has a way of telling the story of a small/blue-collar town. That feel is very similar. There is a cool interview with Kimberly Pierce about the movie on the home page of tellofilms.com.

    She's really a great artist!

    So excited for that! it looks like manga, it's so vivid! I heart the Wachowski Bros.

    Also, Dark Matter looks AMAZING!

    for the heads up on these.

    speed racer actually looks better than i thought it would, and dark matter looks like something that my science-dork self will love.

    the trailer for stop-loss had me in tears already. like jennifer from pittsburgh, i think it hit me really hard just because it is real and happening RIGHT NOW. i wanna see this, but i know it's gonna hurt.

    I'll go see anything with christina ricci in it :) Also I know this is off topic but I think Megan Gale is perfect to play wonder woman :) so I'll be seeing that movie for sure

    so ive seen the trailer to speed racer a billion times its soooo old i kinda dont wana c it now. i probably will though just bc its free .

    and yes DOOMSDAY came out this weekend and IT"S AMAZING!!!!

    i've already seen it twice!!!! it's resident evil meets grindhouse meets a rob zombie film and those are all my favorite movies!!!!!!!!! I LOOOOVEEEE it!!!!! RHONA is drop dead gorgeous! and the accent gets me every time!!!! evry one go c it!!!!!!! hot chicks with firearms who, kick ass fight scenes, explosions and hot cars! flawless! just run to ur theatre now to watch it! i guess that was my birthday present from the goddesses this weekend lol

    the only other movie i'm really waiting for to come out is Wanted with angelina jolie coming out in a few months or so maybe in the summer
