Rosie is still in the running for "The Price Is Right"After the Daytime Emmy Awards last Friday (read all about Ellen DeGeneres' big wins here), Bob Barker mentioned that CBS is planning to meet with Rosie O'Donnell to discuss The Price Is Right.
Barker's not opposed to the idea of Rosie hosting the show:
Yeah, yeah, it's hard to resist making a joke about Rosie being called a "lady," but I'll leave that to others. I'm more interested in Barker's flip-flopping, if earlier reports are to be believed: In May, TVGuide.com said he was "adamant" that Rosie not get the gig and the Daily News said the same. Hmm. Maybe Ro offered to make a big donation to one of his pet spay-and-neuter organizations?
Well, Barker can change his mind, of course. Meanwhile, props to TVGuide.com's Matt Webb Mitovich for this snarky comment: "Sigh. Kiss goodbye all the heterosexual sex talk during Plinko." Take that, Barbara Walters. Mitovich also noted that Walters was using some very fuzzy math when she said that The View's ratings are up: They're up versus a year ago (pre-Rosie) but down 10 percent compared to O'Donnell's final week. So much for Walters' impeccable journalism.
Rosie confirmed in the "ask ro" section of her website that a Price Is Right meeting is on the horizon and that she's interested in the job:
She also commented on Ellen's praise for her at the Daytime Emmy Awards:
And on her blog, there's a nice montage of moments from The View, including many shots of Elisabeth Hasselbeck. All such happy stuff — could it be that Rosie's ready to move on and host one of the most beloved game shows ever? I still can't quite imagine what that would be like, but I know I'll tune in if it happens. I think she'd be a hell of a lot more watchable than George Hamilton, who's also in the running. If he gets the job, I'll be constantly adjusting the color on my TV in a futile attempt to make his face less orange. Submitted by on June 18, 2007 - 7:00am. |

ROSIE, COME ON DOWN!
Rosie O'Donnell's lawyer's fees - 4,509. Bribes to keep the media interested - 15,687.
The look on the contestant's faces when they realize they're not going to get any screen time because Rosie will be too busy making wildly hysterical cracks -
PRICELESS
When she calls my name, I turn and in that instant I lose my heart. This is the love of my life.

I hope Ro takes /gets the PIR job. I think she would be great at it, and I would even start watching it. I'm sure she would have some new ideas for the show too--it needs a change. Having someone come in and pick up where barker left off wouldn't work. It worked for BB because the audience liked his shtick. They need a new shtick. I'm sure some of his ardent fans will hate Ro, but she could bring in new viewers. The homophobes, sexists, and other assorted weirdos can watch Maury.
However, I don't think the guys who run the show are bright enough to realize that some change can be a good thing! I wouldn't be surprised if George Hamilton gets the job.
What does 80 have to do with it?
I believe Rosie said it first, but what does being almost 80 have to do with anything?
I agree with the person upthread who said PIR is too limiting for Rosie. I haven't been interested in that show since I was like 10. Maybe my interest will return when I'm 80, but I don't see it happening before then, even with Rosie as the host.
I could also understand them not wanting her because she does jump around from project to project a lot. They probably want someone who will be there for the next 35 years. That would rule out George Hamilton, though. He is almost 70...
Ryan Seacrest
I think Ryan should take the show over. :D Really I'd hate to deprive all the ladies sitting in the nursing homes of America their eye candy. I mean Bob has been the high light of their day for decades. (At least the ones in my g-pa's home.) I think Rosie would be a great game show host maybe with a little stand-up mixed in and perhaps a Broadway musical half-time show. I'd love for her to develope her own show rather than take over for Bob.
(I still don't have a comment button; forgive all my non-reply's today.)
Eee.
I hate to be the voice of doom, but I really think that the show's viewership will go way down now that Barker's gone. My grandmother, for one, says she will adamantly refuse to watch any of the new episodes. Bob Barker WAS The Price is Right. Now it's just another loud game show with lots of flashy lights.
I mean, can you imagine Jeopardy! with anybody but Trebek?
Sigh.
