"Rick & Steve": Animated gays and their lesbian friends

Here's an exclusive sneak peek at Logo's new animated series Rick & Steve. First, the requisite disclaimers: (1) Yes, Logo is AfterEllen.com's parent company, and (2) yes, this sounds like a show about gay men. But (a) nobody at Logo is holding a gun to my head as I type this (for one thing, I'm on my couch and don't generally let gun-toting gays into my apartment), and (b) the show does feature a lesbian couple — in fact, they're in every episode.

Rick and Steve and their lesbian friends are poseable plastic folk who are wholly unsuitable for children. Voices are provided by Peter Paige (the adorable Emmett on Queer as Folk), Alan Cumming, Wilson Cruz (My So-Called Life) and Margaret Cho. And the music is by the brilliant minds behind the awesome Avenue Q, which is enough to make me optimistic.

Rick & Steve debuts Tuesday, July 10. This trailer debuts tomorrow — did I mention we're getting an exclusive sneak peek? I know it's silly of me, but any kind of sneaking makes me feel well chuffed. I'm still high from the fact that I got to see Titanic as part of a test audience, before they had even finished all the special effects. Sadly, I don't think Kate Winslet is in Rick & Steve.

Ahem. Anyway, here's the trailer:

Hmm. Yeah, I'll have to give this a try, mostly because I really enjoyed my Fisher Price people when I was a kid, and I probably tried to make them do inappropriate things together. Also, did you see that weirdly cute cat at the end of the trailer?

More info will be available soon on the official Rick & Steve website.

Avenue Q, and I'm going to love this! Thanks Scribe!

When she calls my name, I turn and in that instant I lose my heart. This is the love of my life.

    Yeah::I just swear

That's right. I mean, dang:: it's a sad, sad day that not even a cute little Fisher Price cat can salvage when even legos on a queer animation show are stuck acting out our culture's current 1950s timewarp, which relentlessly wants to see women—straight women, gay women, single women, and now plastic women—knocked up and doing the mommy thing.

It's like the Doomsday clock got switched with some kind of horrible biological count-down thing.

And what, you think Girlie Girl is overreacting? Try this out: Spend at least part of the day counting the number of women dressed in the latest summer fashion: those peasant-like blouses and dresses that are strangely indistinguishable from maternity clothes.

::without hesitation--and with fingers crossed for the fall fashions

    Maternity shirts

I, too, have noticed that the current fad are shirts that make every woman look pregnant.  It is disturbing to go to the mall or a college campus and 70% of the females there look like they are 2 months pregnant.  With the majority of women's clothing being made for mothers-to-be and the little girls' department having string bikinis for seven-year olds, I have started to avoid the clothing section in department stores.

    Old news

I remember when Rick and Steve first surfaced on the internet. Lego tried to sue the creators for making their little dolls gay. They lost, something about artistic freedom and it not really hurting anyone. Score one for the pink team :)

    Ironic ..

that their little Lego dolls will not be seen on Logo.

Lego, Logo ... Okay, so I may be the only one to find this amusing. lol

    wow

I saw the original Rick & Steve at an animation film festival back in 2000. Complete with actual Lego. :)

The lesbians, I believe, were asking one of the guys to donate sperm.

After that scene, I will never look at Lego the same again!

    I'm just sayin.

Anyway, I think I have an inappropriate (on so many levels) gay boy crush on Steve. ;p

    I love it!

On the other hand I see so much potential for the Lego toys my nephews play with! I actually was thinking of making a little movie with their Pirates set... now, there's so much one can do! LOL!

    Taco!

That scene with the three lesbians eating the taco together just made me choke on my orange peanut M&M.

I think I might actually have to watch this, which I've never said about any Logo show before.

    Loving It

I'll probably check out a few episodes. It seems very cute. Who would've thought that gay playhouse toys would be so filled with drama? I sure didn't when I was playing with them. But then again I was too busy playing with my power rangers. (More of the pink and yellow rangers)
