"Meadowlands": A well-kept secret

On June 17, Meadowlands premieres on Showtime. I hadn't heard anything about this series, but it looks pretty great. For one thing, these pictures are intriguing, not just because the women have intense gazes but because the atmosphere is wonky and eerie:

Nina Sosanya as Samantha

Felicity Jones as Zoe

Meadowlands is co-produced by Channel 4, which is based in the U.K. Apparently it has already premiered there. There are only eight episodes, but they sound jam-packed:

Meadowlands focuses on a family trying to escape its past while confronting an even more uncertain future. The series picks up as Danny and Evelyn Brogan, along with their two teenage kids, enter a witness protection program. Meadowlands appears to be a suburban paradise where the Brogan family can begin to start a new life. But they soon realize that it's not so easy to escape the past and their safe haven becomes a world of paranoia and psychological intrigue with surprises around every corner.

OK, beloved British members of AfterEllen.com: Have you seen Meadowlands? Is it worth TiVo-ing?

It's no nearly as good as THE RICHES, IMHO.

    Looks interesting

Thanks for giving the link to episode 1. I liked it. It definitely gets the creep going from the get go -- what's with people entering others' houses uninvited... -- and it has an absurdly campy moment near the end (in the housewarming party). Plus, the lead female actor bears an astonish resemblance, I think, to Gillian Anderson. I can't but love that. This doesn't seem like a truly significant series (to me, based on just this viewing), but it does seem watchable. Has it been renewed for a second series?

    Meh

Meh, the promo didn’t really grab me.  I’m not intrigued enough to watch this online so I’ll wait till it’s on Showtime.    But The Riches is my fave new show.  Funny, smart, well-written, well-acted, I could go on and on.  All-around yummy goodness.

And thanks for the X-Files link!   Rob and Laura Petri – oh, how I miss funny, sexy Mulder/Scully repartee.

    Meadowlands?

I don't think it's aired in the UK yet. Channel 4's programming guide for 2007 announced it as a summer release for UK tv, and it was called Cape Wrath not Meadowlands. Maybe they're just using a different title for the US. Anytime I see 'high-concept drama' on a shooting schedule I assume they'll pick up a cult following somehow.

    It's pretty at least.

So, I just watched the first episode (thank you Buzz!) and that is one ridiculously attractive family.  My favorite part was Mark and Jezabel.

    I saw the first four

I saw the first four episodes and really enjoyed them ... The Prisoner on Twin Peaks with Dexter looking in ... Intriguingly Miasmic Meadowlands...

so, the first episode didn't grab me either, but i've now seen the first four, and HOLY SHIT. definitely watch it. and zoe? is it wrong that she's probably too young for me to lust after but i do anyhow?!?!

regardless, i think it's a definite tivo show, and i'll be blogging about it weekly as well! (sorry for the plug, but i'm a whore like that!)

    Meadowlands / Cape Wrath

This is airing in the UK on Channel 4 at 10pm Tuesday July 10th. It's title is Cape Wrath for UK viewers. It's an odd time slot. There are only 7 episodes, so I'll give it a try.
