Marlee Matlin cha-cha-chas

A few weeks ago, we reported that Marlee Matlin will be on the new season of Dancing With the Stars.

It seemed strange to me at first — not because she's deaf, but because she just doesn't seem like the reality TV type, whatever that is — but this video makes me think she'll be pretty adorable on the show.



"I must have been drunk that morning." Heh.

If only she could keep Nancy O'Dell (or another woman with a grabbable booty) as her dance partner! But her partner on the show will be Fabian Sanchez, aka the 2006 U.S. Mambo Champion. He's not half as lovely as Jennifer Beals, which I suppose goes without saying. Here's another clip of Fabian and Marlee, this time on Entertainment Tonight.



Matlin recently said that her motivations for taking the DWTS gig were pretty simple:

The mother of four was inspired by her 12-year-old daughter, Sara, a hip-hop dancer and devoted fan of the show. "I just want to be the cool mom," Matlin said.

Other DWTS contestants this year include Marissa Jaret Winokur (Hairspray), Olympic skater Kristi Yamaguchi and tennis champ Monica Seles.

Dancing With the Stars returns next Monday, March 17.

    omg. marlee is so stinkin adorable. it's things like this that make me wish i had a tv...  (ok.. maybe not that much. i'll just catch clips online somewhere.)

    I'm actually going to be watching Dancing with the Stars this season, because they've actually got people I've heard of/like! Marlee FTW!

    Hey Scribe, sorry to be THAT person but... I think you're confusing Nikki Blonsky with Marissa Jaret Winokur, the original Tracy on Broadway Hairspray, who is the one doing the show. :)

    Other than that, thanks for this post! I'd seen those videos before and I just can't believe how freaking ADORABLE Marlee is. She is totally the reason why I'll be watching this season for the second time in a row (last season was Jennie Garth). Her partner Fabian may not be as lovely as Jennifer Beals, but he sure is funny and they seem to have connected well. Can't wait to see them in action!

    Thank you for the updates and videos.

    I'm from Australia but still want to keep up with Marlee's journey through DWTS so thanks for making it easier.

    She is so adorable. Both of those clips... just adorable. She is one of those people that I wish I knew in real life because I feel like she is so genuine.

    Damn, i've waited so long for this season. I can't wait to see Julianne Hough, I've only watched the show, just to see her dancing(Apolo/Helio), anyway my second favorite is Marlee. This season is going to be fun to watch!!

    I have a feeling that the fact she's on the L Word won't be mentioned. I hope that's not the case. But how cool would it be to see Jennifer Beals in the audience. Maybe Julianne Hough can guest star in the final season.

    "Hearing Impaired"

    I'm taking an American Sign Language class this semester, and I just wanted to point out that Billy Bush (I think that's his name) refered to Marlee Matlin as "hearing impaired." While he was probably trying to be politically correct, "hearing impaired" is actually a derogatory term because it focuses on what the person can't do. As my teacher says, "I can't hear, so what!" It's better to refer to Marlee as Deaf (capital D because she identifies with Deaf culture). Some people refer to themselves as deaf (with a lowercase d) because they don't identify with Deaf culture; but since she identifies with Deaf culture, Marlee Matlin is Deaf.

    Anyway, I'm glad that Marlee Matlin is on Dancing with the Stars, and it looks like she's a really good dancer!

    Go Planet! from Captain Planet rang in my head as I was typing just now....anyway

    I'm so excited about this, and I hope she wins.  They gave the cute little tanned blonde dancer Adam Whatshisface so there's no way she's winning again. But

    I did crush on Kristi Yammacoochie guchi when I was younger, and I am also excited to see Monica Seles, since she can't get it together on the tennis court...

    I pretty much quite reality show a long time ago, till this new Dancing with the Star season. started watching cuz Lucy Lawless's good friend Marissa was on, then I found out Marlee was on too, I was super excited!

    Loved Marlee way before her L Word appearance, now i'm kicking myself for not attending the one woman 'lecture' she hosted years ago here in Vancouver...Marlee's AMAZING!!

    Marissa's pretty enthused, it makes me feel happy to see her so happy about it.

    ouff, the votes gonna be divided up for me there...
