Kristy McNichol makes me cover my eyesFrom quite a young age (thanks mostly to the influence of my older sister), I had a lot of posters on my bedroom walls. There were a few boys, mostly pretty ones like Scott Baio, Leif Garrett and Shaun Cassidy. Oh, the feathered hair. But there were more girls, of course. I'm pretty sure the first girl on my wall was Kristy McNichol, starting with her days on Family. Wasn't she a cute kid?
And talk about awesome feathered hair:
Of course, the mullet years weren't kind to any of us:
A fellow AfterEllen.com blogger (thanks, browne!) sent me this clip of Kristy in Two Moon Junction, a 1988 Zalman King movie I've never seen. Here's Kristy with Sherilyn Fenn: I'm speechless. I can't handle seeing a lifelong crush in a compromised position (and by that I mean such a blindingly crappy movie, not the Fenn scene). I'm going to cover my head and think about Little Darlings instead. Submitted by on November 30, 2007 - 2:30pm. |

I remember her fondly
lesbian without borders
I remember watching this...long ago...
haha..
Cheers for Kristy
I hate j00!
OMG, I'd managed to black out the memory of Kirsty's GGW and pimping scene. Not to mention the rest of the movie. Some things are best not left for posterity.
Also, hah, I had such a thing for Leif Garret and Scott Baio. And David Cassidy. They should ban those lesbian-looking guys - I thought I was bi up until my mid-teens because of them. :-) (Although the fact I had more things for Wonder Woman, Kirsty McNicol, Maria off Sesame St, Susan Dey, yadda yadda, should have been indicative)
Guilty...
"Think Sideways"
But you're a true FAN if...
gotta love the flash backs
Feathered hair and Kristy McNichol, like peas and carrots.
Of course, now I understand why I was always so intrigued by her when I was a kid. :)

"I'm not sorry for what I did. I'm sorry for what I didn't do."
Tongue-twister
"My whole place is wood-panelled"
Such a brief scene, so much to say!
1. When I was a tacker, I also liked the girls on my bedroom wall. Robbie Benson and Parker Stevenson were my faves. But I also liked a bit of rough: Grant Goodeve and Willie Aames.
2. How big was that dance floor? I think they converted the skating rink from Jimmy
McNichol's movie.
3. Kristy's outfit, namely the skirt and heels: it's like first season Nikki Wade.
Flush those earrings, will you, darlin'?
4. "Go to him": we should have known Kristy would like to watch.
On that note, I found an interesting article reprint from 1978:
'Her interest in men is a further sign of Kristy's personal coming of age. She's had plenty of on-camera romance, including being propositioned on Family last month by Leif Garrett. Kristy thought the script rang false ("I can't imagine anyone saying to me, 'I've got my needs'") and is playing it tentative in her own life. "I think sex is a nice part of being in love," she says gravely, "when you're old enough to handle it." She may be getting there.' ("Nifty Kristy McNichol")

I think my eyes are bleeding...
still (from watching this movie).
I'm not sure what this says about me (and shudder to think), but animal pictures covered most of my wall space during those tween years.
My favorite role of Kristy's was as the wise-beyond-her-years daughter in Only When I Laugh, followed closely by the butch-n-ballsy "Angel" in Little Darlings.
Sadly, when Kristy was in her prime, I was still indulging in my fantasy of roller skating across the country and becoming best friends with Olivia Newton-John. *imagining our sleep overs*
Like, wow...
My jaw dropped to the floor and stayed there. Okay, I had a passing crush on Kristy (I was too busy fantasizing about female superheroes) but the butchiess, especially in Empty Nest always appealled to me.
Now that I thinkof it, back in the feathered-hair days, she could pass as Shaun Cassidy's little sister, I mean their hairstyles were nearly identical. That's the hair we remember best. Dontcha just wanna...
fluff it?
...
You know you want to...
From Kristy to David Cassidy
Yep, I thought Kristy was a great actress and a great tom-boy. Now, David Cassidy did an amazing thing for me. There was a local model in my area that was drop dead beautiful. She literally stopped traffic when we were out walking around. She came on to me only because she thought I looked like David Cassidy. That hair style was very unisex-ual. I got to date this knock out for several weeks because of David. Never got to say thank-you. ::bigfrackingrin::
Neither Kristy nor brother Jimmy...
did much for me. It wasn't until Kristy was an adult that I saw her acting chops.
It was Meredith Baxter I watched Family for. I had a thing for older women. lol
LOVED "MY BUDDY"
Guilty as charged!!!
I to am a victim of Kristy and Wonder Woman, Bionic Woman(Original)Charlies Angels, Agent 99, Meridith Baxter yes. Now it's Angie Harmon, Mariska Hargitay,Jodie Foster, it's just too many to list..... Thanks For the Memories
Oh man, I saw Little
Oh man, I saw Little Darlings when I was younger and wow...it made me wish I was a child of the 70s! She makes me blush for sure. Her AND Tatum in the same movie?!?!?! Why the hell would ANY girl be looking at Matt Dillon with those two ladies?
Kristy makes gum chewing so damn sexy. :)
