Julie Christie (la la la la) returns in Away From Her

I just watched the trailer for Away From Her, the new film starring Julie Christie and Olympia Dukakis and directed by Sarah Polley. It's based on the short story "The Bear Came Over the Mountain" by Alice Munro.

It looks like the film just might live up to the expectations fostered by those big names. The trailer itself is quite moving. That's mostly thanks to Julie Christie, who is as luminous and enchanting as ever.

And every time I think about Julie Christie, I think about Better Than Chocolate.

Away From Her starts May 4 — you know, if it turns out you're not in the mood to see Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire flying around the screen. And I'm pretty sure I won't be.

I'm looking forward to see this movie!

I iike Julie Christie very much.  I can't remember anything that I've seen with her that I didn't like.  And I see it as an alternative for the parents and people not crazy about the Spiderguy!  I hope I can get to see it at some point.  They probably will bring it to Germany in the fall, if they bring it at all! Good thing there is a couple of cinemas that show more 'artsy" films in original version.  Also, I always liked Ms. Dukakis, from "Steel Magnolias" to "Look who's talking". She is great!Hope to read your review once you've seen it!

    I've seen the film.

It was playing at a local film festival here in Winnipeg, and I was volunteering as an usher at the screening, so I got to sit in the back and watch it.  Gordon Pinset was there to talk about the experience of making the film, and Sarah Polley was supposed to be there, but she had to pull out because of some personal issues (unfortunately).

I won't give anything away, but I must say that this is one of the best movies that I have seen in a good number of years.  Wendy Crewson (and I do [heart] her) was a scene stealer--the character she plays is so irritatingly, emotionally jaded.  It takes an extremely talented actor to be so, obnoxiously hateable, lol.

And Julie Christie and Pinset give amazing performances, as well.  I was thoroughly impressed with how subtle, and effective Christie was.  Olympia Dukakis has a relatively small (but, by no means minor) role, but her performance was great as well.  Acutally, everyone's performances in the film were great.

An excellent example of great Canadian filmmaking.  A word of caution though, do bring the tissues, because you'll need them :-)

    Wow, this films looks awesome!

I didn't even know it was coming out. I actually cried while watching the trailer. I'm definitely watching this instead of Spidey.

Always in Love with Julie Christie

Ever since I was eleven years old and I saw the movie Doctor Zhivago in the theatre, I have been madly in love with Julie Christie. She just has something about her that is just so - so attractive. She has not disappointed in her latest performance, either.

    This film is awesome!
