Jorja's on our minds, but off "CSI"

As you've probably heard by now, Jorja Fox is leaving CSI after the seventh episode this season — or just sometime in November, depending on which report you read.

Sigh. Now I have even fewer reasons to watch the show. Fewer as in one (the one named Marg Helgenberger).

In an interview with TVGuide.com, Jorja said it's been a good run:

Were you ever bored by the constraints of acting in a procedural?
Fox: I never was. I've been one of the luckiest people in the history of TV, getting to play the character of Sara. Almost since Episode 10 in Season 1, I've had a lot to do. My character has had a very full personal life.

Well, sorta full. Not quite as full as we wanted it to be. Jorja also noted that "the story of Sara and Grissom is a little like a fable." I agree, if she means a completely fantastical story that would never, ever happen in real life.

If Jorja's departure is terrible news to you, there's a "Keep Jorja Fox on CSI" campaign (thanks, DJSmurf!) you can join. Hey, if letters kept Cagney & Lacey on the air, maybe they can keep Sara from sidling away.

Here's a little Sara/Catherine fan video to soothe the pain (or feed the fanfic):

    I absolutely HATE it that

I absolutely HATE it that they're dismantling the perfect cast. I love the show to bits and pieces, but not having Sara on board won't be the same. At all. And I really liked the pairing of Sara and Grissom, sure I would have loved like so many if Sara and Sofia got into a torrid love affair but...

You know, as much as I love

You know, as much as I love CSI (and it's my favourite programme on tv at the moment) I kind of feel that perhaps they should just end it sometime soon...it's kind of going towards the same place The X-Files went to in it's last 2 seasons...still an ok show & better than most other shows but nothing compared to the earlier seasons/episodes.

I might still watch if Grissom remains (cos I utterly adore him ;) ) but if both of them leave then I have a feeling I'll be off too...

    *sigh*

    JORJA

I don't know how many others are out there, but I for one feel that Jorja Fox was an integral part of making this show as popular as it is.  I loved the character of Sara from the moment she got to Vegas... she wasn't your cookie cutter version of what TPTB at the networks would have us believe CSI's look like (not everyone is Emily Procter or Melina Kanakarides, walking the crime scene in heels, etc.-don't get me wrong I like both actresses and their characters as well, I'm just saying it's nice to have the "girl next door" or "tomboy next door" on the show for a little more realism).

I've been a faithful CSI viewer in large part because of Sara/Jorja and will not be a happy camper if she stops being a part of the show.

I was always a little torn between liking/not liking the Grissom/Sara pairing, but only because there has been no lesbian CSI thus far, and after seeing the chemistry between Sara and Sofia, I had hopes that TPTB would catch on, but Jorja is the kind of actor that made me start being okay with the Grissom/Sara pairing and admittedly kind of liking it.

No matter what happens, I have been and will continue to be a fan of Jorja Fox and her work and will look forward to whatever the future holds for her.

    Sara/Grissom

I've been a fan of CSI ever since it aired, and frankly SARA & GRISSOM are the most vital characters, without whom the show won't be the same. Hope there's some way to make Jorja come back for more.

However, I have to agree with SpaceCloudAgent...some of the excellent series' like the X-Files start to lose their initial flair when they've been around too long.

    Not happy about this. The

Not happy about this. The fact that the entire main cast is still on the show set it apart from the other CSIs (that and the fact that it has the better characters, storylines, settings and is the original *s*), where there have been several changes over the year. On CSI they only occasionally added people but didn't take any away (minus the pilot of course). They've grown so much together ("I want my team back", this really sucks. I just hope they write her properly out of it without killing her off as an evil twist or something.

Sad to see Jorja go, and Marg stay

Seriously, Scribe? Marg Helgenberger is the reason you would watch CSI? She's one of the only reasons I'm tempted to turn it off sometimes (the other reason being the bodies ripped to pieces in vivid detail while I'm trying to sit down to dinner). I can't stand her.

I'll join some others here and say that I liked Grissom and Sara together. He's one of the most compelling characters on TV. Is it because he's so much older (what 10-12 years?) than Sara? That stuff doesn't bother me as much as it does others. And I never got the vibe from Jorja, so I didn't really look for her with any of the ladies in the show (especially Marg). Definitely wish Sara was staying, but now maybe we can see some Grissom, Lady Heather action. That, to me, has such awesome potential.

    Hmm, I don't know....

If Jorja leaves CSI, I'm not sure I'll still make that much effort to watch this show. I mean, I really like it, but Sara is a big part of that.

I also kind of like Sara and Grissom together. I mean, if they're gonna pair her up with a guy, at least it's Grissom. I think he's really cool, mostly because he's so smart :P

But, we'll see. I think it's gonna depend a lot on how they end her storyline too.

    I'm more worried of what's

I'm more worried of what's gonna be of Jorja when she leaves. After years with a character in a hit show there's that annoying pattern of fine or fucked, whether they make it or vanish, it's unbelievable how often it goes like that.

As to CSI, well... I like Grissom enough to keep watching, but man is Sara going to be a hole in the show. Glad they didn't (yet, they better not) kill her off, but I can't see how they'll manage the GSR without making a whole lotta shippers pissed or making it all look like a soapie plot device, 'cause it surely wasn't for all these years.

I agree it should end though, ASAP. It's X-Files all over again, and it would be a pitty if it went down like that.

Sara Sidle is my favorite Character on CSI,

but if this is the only thing that will finally rid us of GSR - so be it. I know a lot of people seem to like this pairing, but to me it just feels wrong on every level imaginable. It spoils the show and - worse yet - the Sidle character for me to have this relationship forced down my throat. Especially since I don't see any chemistry between those two - at all. I look at them and go 'oh, that look was supposed to tell us she likes him and - hey that little remark is supposed to make us see that he likes her back' - but I never feel a thing. The only other time that happened was watching 'Bend It Like Beckham' when I spent the whole movie thinking 'What the hell do they want with Coach Joe? All the chemistry ist between the two girls'.

Sorry to burst your bubble but nope, it's not them. And can be hidden so deliciously because it's a dark piece of imagery.

Can't remember which episode it was from, but it was where the dude got whacked in the garage of the house.

Women should be extremely offended by this

Honestly, if this premiere episode didn’t convince people that Ms. Fox is a talent worth fighting for, who can without a doubt carry an entire episode by herself, then I question these people's ability to gauge talent at all.  I would put this episode head to head against Weeping Willows (MH's Tour De Force) any day of the week and guarantee it would win hands down.  For the last half of the episode there was very little dialogue and no one but a coyote to act off of and she was amazing!  The very fact that every viewer in America knew the sole purpose of this show was to determine whether or not Sara survived and this episode steamrolled over Grey’s Anatomy in the ratings should be a large neon sign that CBS/CSI has a valuable commodity on their hands.

As for the character of Sara, she is by far one of the most unique female characters on television today.  And on CSI itself, she is the ONLY female character who is a pure criminalist/scientist relying on her intelligence and skills as an investigator to do her job rather than her cleavage.  The day Catherine started popping buttons for the convict in prison, I lost all respect for her character.  And Sophia has done the exact same thing, albeit less blatantly in the interrogation room.  Not to mention, that after the premiere episode we have seen a level of internal strength and intestinal fortitude that I absolutely cannot believe execs and fans wouldn’t want to have represented, especially in a female character, on this show.  To remove Sara from the team would be an offence to every female fan of the show and an acknowledgement that the only value women have in the CSI universe is as a rack of breasts.

    Not surprised

I'm not surprised that she is leaving but I am not happy about it.  I agree with what everyone is saying, the character of Sara is a big part of the show and the main reason I watch.
I for one, will not be making an effort to watch CSI and I think this is a serious error in judgement for the writers/creators of this show.

There are other women on the show

what about sofia(louise lombard) she's worth tuning in for!
    hazel_eyes's picture

    Sad news :(

Does anyone know why she's leaving?  Is this her choice, was she fired?
    cylon's picture

    Boo, hiss

Am disappointed, but not surprised, to hear Jorja is going. I love the character of Sara and think the show will be poorer without her, although I'm sure it will just roll on like the juggernaut it is.

Jorja's always made amazing career choices in the past (going from ER, to the West Wing, straight to CSI) so who knows? Maybe this is another step along the way...

And Jilly I think the official line was that her and the network were unable to come to an agreement about her long-term future on the show. Which basically explains nothing!

    jessie22's picture

    :(

Jilly - Cylon is right that it is about a contract dispute, she wanted a decent pay rise (she didn't take one years ago after the firings). They won't give her the raise she obviously deserves. Especially considering that 25 million people tuned in to see is Sara lived or died. It's just CBS BS.

Just to let you guys know, they are soon going to be filming the apparent last episode of Jorja Fox on CSI. Fans have started to rally since this news came out trying to let the head honcho's at CSI know how much they don't want her to leave.
