"American Idol" — '80s ladies

So last night was '80s night on American Idol, and I got to hear some of my favorite songs. (What's wrong with Simon — how can he not recognize the awesomeness of "I Drove All Night"?! And I do mean the Cyndi Lauper version, of course.)

I think Amanda Overmyer totally redeemed herself, after a very weak performance last week.

It helped that she sang one of my favorite songs ever, Joan Jett's "I Hate Myself for Loving You." Here it is:



I love myself for loving the way Amanda's so unimpressed by the whole Idol experience!

And Ramiele Malubay did a great job with a song I thought I never needed to hear again, Phil Collins' "Against All Odds."

 



But my favorite performance of the night was Brooke White's acoustic interpretation of Pat Benatar's "Love Is a Battlefield."

I was hanging on every word, every note. She could be one to beat.




As for who's going home tonight, Kady and Kristy were so forgettable, I could barely remember their names long enough to type this sentence! Everyone else was just OK for me, as Randy might say.

    We're a little behind here on AI, last night they showed the GUYS doing the 70's tunes... but I don't really care about them...

    I love how you're the 4th judge scribe, lol, and I like your little AI updates! :)

    Brooke looks like she's gonna be one of the forgettable ones, and then every week she pulls out something interesting and creative. I LOVED her last night. Could it be Mormon v Mormon in an allout battle for the next AI? Cute little David's also LDS--the Mormons are taking over!!!

    Brooke and Amanda are my FAVORITE two women-- both of them were EXCELLENT last night. I thought Ramiele was tense and not very good on stage last night, but her voice is pretty. I must say though... I was a little disappointed when they showed Amanda's "fiance" on camera after she sang-- ugh. I wanted her to be a lez, dammit. ;) www.eyeslikealeopard.com

    I could not agree with you more about Brooke's performance last night. It has easily become one of my favorite Idol performances ever. I was actually shocked initially at Randy and Paula for implying that she should have made it "bigger," but then Simon saved the da (as he often seems to do).

    It was perfection!

    I'm not a serious fan of American Idol. So, thank you very much for bringing Ramiele Mulaby to my attention. She is absolutely sexy-cute and she is talented vocally. I think she has a lot of potential.

    I totally agree with you. brooke has the 'it' factor for sure. i'm glad amanda finally had a decent week. its pretty funny at first when she was emotionless while the judges were praising her, but geez, give us SOME feedback. is she even in it to win it? seems like she doesnt care at all:(

    btw, what is the deal with paula this season? she was a little nutty before but now she cant even seem to complete a sentence. painful to watch.

    I don't usually watch American Idol until it gets down to 12, so I had no idea who was in the running this season. I loved the Joan Jett and Pat Benatar covers and, consequently, am cautiously optimistic about this season.

    Out of the ladies I liked Amanda Overmyer, Kristy Lee Cook and Asia'H Epperson.  (Ramiele Malubay is totally adorable ;-p)

    *Edited to say based on last nights performance.  (Brooke is so Carly Simonesque, and talented she might be the highest placing female in the end).*

    I was oddly attracted to Danny Noriega ...maybe because he looks a little like Michelle Branch and I used to have a thing for her or maybe it was the weird snippy thing he had going on and the way he moved those little hips during his songs, or maybe it's the amount of alcohol i consumed while i was in college, or maybe he's just pretty, or?
