Five great goodbyesSo, as I mentioned in the L Word recap this week, today is my last day as an AfterEllen.com staffer. (I just have a new job; there's no big drama here.) I'll miss this place! To commemorate the day (yes, I'm commemorating myself — so?), here are some goodbye scenes and songs that say farewell better than I ever could. The Way We Were, final scene (alternate source: click here) It's the laughter we'll remember. And the greatness of Barbra. Casablanca, "We'll always have Paris" (alternate source: click here) We'll always have AfterEllen.com. Somehow that doesn't have the same ring to it. The Carol Burnett Show, "I'm So Glad We Had This Time Together" (alternate source: click here) She's a genius. I'm tugging my ear. The Wizard of Oz, "You've always had the power" Everyone loves the heel-clicking, but Dorothy's speech just before that is even better. The Sound of Music, "So Long, Farewell" I love this movie. I love Julie Andrews. I love nuns who sabotage cars and play guitars. And when the audience sings "goodbye" back to the kids, I get a little choked up. I can think of no better note to go out on! (alternate source: click here) And here's one more goodbye: So long and thanks, everybody. Drop me a line (scribegrrrl at gmail.com) once in a while. And expect me to show up here again from time to time, wondering what I've missed and whether Queen Latifah has come out yet. P.S. I still don't know whether I'll have time to do the recaps for the final season of The L Word — I'll have to see how things go. And no amount of cajoling or promises of Bette Porter on my doorstep will hasten my decision. OK, maybe that last thing would. Submitted by on March 26, 2008 - 2:02pm. |

scribegrrrl...
Say it isn't so? Well I'm sure that whatever endeavors you take on next, you'll be just as fantastic as you've been with all your blogs here on AfterEllen.
I hope that at the very least you'll pop back in sometimes and post some snarky remark or two in response to some post and keep in touch with everyone here at AfterEllen.
I wish you all the very best... in both life and career!
(Self Appointed) "#1 Bridget McManus Fan"
Whyyyyyyyy????

Goodbye, and good luck...
*sniffle*
Thanks for five years of L word recaps. Which oftentimes were better than the actual show, especially during the Dark Ages (i.e. Season 3). Scribe, you will be missed. Thanks for all the laughs. Farewell and good luck.
~It means pride.~
Thanks for lword, for
Goodbye!
*resisting the urge to beg you to stay*
Scribe, I'm really going to miss you!
Where does one go after being a beloved afterellen blogger? I've got to admit, I'm curious. I hope it's something awesome!
Don't forget about us! Good luck with your new job! <3
(this is really embarrassing, I had a hard time finding the "less than" sign on my keyboard for the <3 . . . I am on my computer constantly but I guess I don't use that key . . . except for . . . um . . . periods. Like I said, really embarrassing)
Goodbye and Goodluck
Caw Caw. Your writing will be missed. The L word reviews where always great. Loved reading them especially when I wasn't able to see the L word (thanks for keep us updated).
Goodluck for what is coming next in your life, hope it will be just as good (maybe better too) than AE.
*hugs*
P.S. I am listening to an italian anime opening song of Ojamajo Doremi (yes, it is for 5 years olds, but I watch it still) called "Doredo Doremi" and it's quite fitting as well (well at least part of it). Mainly it is about starting a new year at school, but anyway. I should stop now -_-;
You will be missed...
My "must-reads" on AE are your L-word and Badgirls recaps. Followed closely by your blog. I'm so sad to see you go, but I can imagine with your talent, you've got a darn good job opportunity before you. Good luck, scribegrrrl!
You will be missed....*sniffle*......
Another classic farewell
from Shane (no, not the one on the L-Word, the classic western starring Alan Ladd and Jean Arthur)
(does it maybe want to make you stay knowing Mother wants you?).
Anyway, I've enjoyed your writing and dry wit over these few years. And no one does snark like you do snark. You will be missed.
thank you

Thanks so much for all your hard work Scribey!!
Even this goodbye (or should I say these 5) show how much effort you've dedicated to AfterEllen and to this community.
It's been great sharing things with you, from Simone Lahbib obsessing to L Word mocking and everything in between!

::Group Hug::!!!!
Goodbye, miss :/
You're the reason I started lurking on Afterellen.com. I've been reading your recaps since the L Word first aired, and those recaps got me to get off my lazy butt and finally watch the show (I'm not sure whether to blame you or thank you ;D). I'm going to miss your recaps, blog posts, and general hilarity.
If it's at all possible, I really hope you can do the final episodes of the L Word. It would be sad if you didn't complete the series.
Hope you have a wonderful time at your new job. Bet they promised Bette on your doorstep first, eh?
It was your recaps that
Oh, the you-manatee!
Master of the recap, for
Master of the recap, for sure. Congrats and best wishes. :)
I just had the weirdest dream...
I wrote for a lesbian blog that had an incredibly smart and witty editor who looked like a Muppet but made everything I wrote better.
I know, I know. Go back to sleep. (Newhart)
(Thanks, scribe.)
Much Love
*sniff* You will be missed
"I don't kiss girls who wear doilies"
Farewell
Am I...A Mahna-bian?
I've become so fond of your blogs, Scribegrrrl, that just seeing your "Mahna Mahna" avatar on the site makes me smile and rush to see what you've written.

Does that make me a mahna-bian?
;-)
You will be missed...
(very much!)
Best wishes to you, Scribegrrrl!
Edit: I wanted to make sure to say goodbye to you before you left, Scribegrrrl, but since the "assignment" on this thread was to think of "great goodbyes"...
I decided to add "Saying Goodbye" from The Muppets Take Manhattan:
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/83654/muppets_saying_goodbye/
Saying Goodbye
Saying goodbye, going away
Seems like goodbye's such a hard thing to say
Touching a hand, wondering why
It's time for saying goodbye
Saying goodbye, why is it sad?
Makes us remember the good times we've had
Much more to say, foolish to try
It's time for saying goodbye
Dont want to leave, but we both know
Sometimes it's better to go
Somehow I know we'll meet again
Not sure quite where, and I dont know just when
You're in my heart, so until then
Wanna smile, wanna cry
Saying goodbye
La la la la la la la la
It's time for saying goodbye
:o(
Congrats on the new job! :o)
I am trying to be happy for you, but I am sad to see you go. I already missed your hilarious podcasts with your girl, now I won't even get to read your recaps/blog/articles. This is a sad sad day for AE. :o(
Thanks for everything you brought to this site. Good luck in your new endeavor .
Awww Scribegrrrl
You don't know how many times I had been sure no one could make me smile, let alone laugh, yet you managed. I will be forever thankful. Good luck with the new job and come back and see us from time to time.
You will be missed.
Oh yeah, the rest of the gang wanted to see you off too.
See you soon Scribegrrrl.
Good Luck
love the last one perfect farewell
hope you manage to visit now and again
If Things Get Too Real, Promise To Take Me Somewhere Else
Mucho LOve to Scribe
Much needed laughter...
Thank you for all the much needed laughter you brought with your writings.
All the best, and good luck!
AE has lost its point
I'm very sad you are going, Scribe.
My favourite film farewell is the end of _Cabaret_ when you get Joel Grey doing the
"Auf Wiedersehen. A bientot..."
as the drum rolls around the mirrored bar and the plethora of Nazi uniforms.
:(
You'll be missed, you are one of my favorite blogger, if not my favorite. I'm sure you're up to some new great job so have fun :)
And thanks for all your work!!!
Thank you
It's been such a pleasure, so nice to read your articles, recaps and realise that not only is someone laughing along with me but that they have many of the same nerdy loves and obsessions too: Your avatar always puts a smile on my face.
Best of luck with your new job and thank you for being so funny and inclusive in your writing. Thank you for the cute and the awesome :)
Sad day...
Dear scribe, I'm really sad to see you go... Like many have said before, I've always really enjoyed your recaps (L Word, Bad Girls), and all your blogs. AfterEllen.com will not be the same without you!!!

You have brightened up
You have brightened up endless days in work.. and i will miss you like the deserts miss the rain!!
Congratulations on the new job... dont forget us!! xx
Thanks
And expect me to show up here again from time to time, wondering what I've missed and whether Queen Latifah has come out yet.

Imagine Me and You
Good night and Good Luck!

Goodbye
I will really, really miss your presence here; your recaps are like crack for us pop culture junkies and no one else here as mastered the art of the snark as beautifully as you.
Sigh, Guess I'm starting my morning with cheesecake and Kleenex ... *sneefle*
Bye.
Back in 2004
.. I read in Glamour (UK editon, bought to, ahem, broaden my vocabulary on a long and supposedly boring train trip) about this brand new, ultra hip US series called The L Word ... was intrigued (not only by Jennifer Beals improved hair style), started to google, found YOUR recaps, got hooked on TLW (and much later on BG), discovered the glorious rest of AfterEllen and the gay world, dumped my nice boyfriend, found a gorgeous girl instead and lived happily ever after ... :)
Time to say thank you, Scribe (and Glamour)! Hope you've found a wonderful new job and am very sad that we can't follow you!
