"Big Brother" becomes "Big Sister"Series 8 of the U.K. reality show Big Brother has begun, with a twist: An all-girl house. The Daily Mail sums it up (or maybe hypes it up) thusly:
The female contestants include a 60-year-old (the oldest contestant ever) and a "bisexual political protester." Well, duh. I mean, redundant much? How many protesters do you know who aren't political? (Ha ha, gotcha.) So, yeah, a "hunky male" arrives tomorrow. I get that this show courts controversy in an effort to boost ratings, but what's the idea here? A crossover with The Bachelor? Or just soft porn? It's reminding me of that scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. You know the one. Here are a few photos of the contestants as they arrived at the Big Brother house this week:
Will Carole become the next Shilpa Shetty or the next Jade Goody? Will the twins re-enact The Parent Trap? Channel 4 is trying to keep things above board this time: "House rules have been updated to warn against bullying and to make clear that it is unacceptable to make offensive remarks on the grounds of race, religion or sexuality." Well... they are 18 so I guess the rule is 18 and over. Although in this case I wish they'd made an exception, they're so bloody annoying!
I got a slight gay vibe from Lesley (who I think is the oldest contestent ever) from her introduction video, due to the pant suit and the golf clubs, but apparently she doesn't like *any* music! How is that even possible?! So I hope that she's not now :)
I wouldn't necessarily think they'd put a 'hunky' guy in, as such, so we'll just have to wait and see...

I can't wait until the US version starts since I don't get the UK one here. The contestants get to "arrive" at the house in fancy cars? Is that how it goes for BBUS because that'd be kind of awesome?
It's not just a bunch of people laying around. They have competitions. But it is mostly just people hooking up and drama. The US one censors everything. No swearing, nothing. Bulgaria doesn't censor. ;)

Emily... hmmm... announced proudly in her introductory video that she was a fan of "indie music", a new kind of music that was taking over the charts... Up until that point I was on her side - when will you young folk ever learn? What revolutionary genre of music will Emily and her rich pals discover next? Rave? Hip-hop? The charleston?
Carole - I love her, prompted some serious laughs in our house... she claims to be "representing East London"... where I happen to live. I'd rather be represented by her than any other the others. Swears like a trooper, bless her.
Tracey - good Lord! A poster child/woman for the anti-drugs brigade. Can't stop gurning / slash throwing bizarre shapes... talks about herself in the third person. NO NEED.
Laura - potential winner...
Charley - first impression? Slapper. Second impression? Slap her.
Other than that, apart from Lesley, it's the usual group of vacuous, fame hungry, rich boyfriend seeking, designer handbag / clothes / make-up loving bunch of idiots.

I don't know facts or anything, but I doubt them cancelling Sugar Rush had anything to do with Big Brother seeing as it's on every day and Sugar Rush was only on once a week.

As for the twins, I'm not sure about the Parent Trap but they have expressed a desire to 'share' a man as he won't know which one is which!
All in all, the single gender set up worries me. Despite all the Queens and Maggie, Britain is a very misogynistic place and as BB will exploit anything and anyone to spin the media merrygoround. I expect to see women at their worst. I hope Carole can brainwash them all quicksharp with Greenham Common rhetoric :)

I love big brother. I don't think the show is that bad, it's peoples behaviour that is the disturbing part.
I ADORE the twins. I think there is something kinda ethereal and fairy like about them and they are living on a totally different planet where everything seems to be fun and exciting and people never lost their innocence. They make me wish I had a twin to be silly with like that.
The only girl I don't like is Charley. She is scary. Shebnam is hot and the rest are going to make for an awesome season of BB. Especially Laura, she seems to be my kind of person. So far.
UK Big Brother is the best franchise out there, here in Australia our BB sucks and is not worth even checking out. It's like 15 boring average looking people in their mid twenties who have nothing to talk about sit around sun baking.
