Is an "Arrested Development" movie in the works?

The failure of the American public to appreciate Arrested Development is an undeniable sign of our collective decline as a country.

The show was smart, funny, irreverent, funny, virtuosic, funny, clever, funny, important and funny. And its demise is proof that satire just isn't valued these days (where have you gone, Jackie Woodman?).

Now, on to the news. Actually, it's little more than a rumor at this point, but maybe — just maeby — an Arrested Development movie is in progress.

The gossip sites say that Jason Bateman (who looks like my junior high school boyfriend, incidentally) met with series creator Mitchell Hurwitz over the weekend, and that Michael Cera (Superbad, super cutie) has expressed interest in the film. And that boy is box office gold right now. Jason Bateman has also said he hopes for a filmic reunion.

Luckily, Portia de Rossi will be free of Nip/Tuck by the time filming starts (seriously, what was she thinking when she took that Nip/Tuck role?). She must miss playing Lindsay Bluth Fünke.

And if/when they do film, Jessica Walter will still — always — be a genius.

And fans everywhere will have perfected their chicken dances.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, take a look at this fan tribute to the show's brilliance:

If you still haven't caught the fever, watch some episodes on MSN.com. And rest assured we'll continue to report whatever movie news emerges. Ca-caw!

We have the episodes playing here daily. Love the series, can't imagine how funny the movie would turn out. I'm excited. Fingers crossed hoping its true.

    What she said...

    YAY!!!

I really have nothing more to add, but that is a very very heartfelt 'yay'. I'll take an unsubstantiated rumour over no mentions at all any day.

    I love the show, and

I love the show, and anything that means more Portia de Rossi on my screens is good - well except for the Nip/Tuck role, which is turning out to be kinda horrible - but if they couldn't get people to watch it on the small screen, then doesn't it seem a bit surprising to invest the money it would take for a movie? This makes me sceptical.

    Fantastic!

I love Arrested Development so much.  I'd love to see a movie made, and I trust that the writers and creators would do a good job!

    our collective decline

This must be one of the few times I’ve ever said, ‘thank christ they’re making this into a movie!’   Ya know – if they actually make it.

I seriously miss this show, so thanks for the MSN links.

(and what the hell with Jackie Woodman?? is right.  That just disappeared, goddammit).

    AD movie

Jason Bateman's always teasing about a movie.  I really really hope that there will be one because it's the greatest show ever!  Even if there's only dozens of people who watched it.  Hopefully if they make one, they'll get all of the cast.  I want Annyoung too!

    I think that...

...Mitchell Hurwitz gets off on being withholding.  That is, withholding the fourth season of AD from us. hehe

    Eh...

I guess I'm in the minority here: while I adore the show and watch it constantly, I wouldn't want a movie made. The format of the show doesn't seem like it could extend well to feature-film length, and, really, what else is there to do with the storylines and characters? I thought the ending of the series was amazing (coming full circle, much?) that to try to continue it with a movie wouldn't really do the show justice.

    Here's hoping...

Thinking about the garbage that continues to litter the airwaves and the fact that a great show like Arrested Development was taken off the air always gets me very angry.

I would love to see an Arrested Development film.

    movie in the works

jeffory tambor just announced on ron and fez on xm202 that an arrested development movie is indeed in the works.

He said that ron howard had called him up and asked if he was interested to which he said he was and that they will have to wait until the end of the writers strike.
