A crush on Clea

I've had a crush on Clea DuVall since ... well, at least since But I'm a Cheerleader. It feels like it's been going on a lot longer than that, probably because it was one of those crush-at-first-sight things. There's something so very dashing about her.

But it's not just her looks; I also think she's a very good actress. She was unforgettable on Buffy. She was irresistible in But I'm a Cheerleader.

She stole my heart in Sleeping Beauties, and then made it ache in Girl, Interrupted.

She was haunting in Carnivàle and in the 2004 TV version of Helter Skelter. In everything from The Faculty to Identity to 21 Grams, she has a presence that is somehow both steady and unsettling.

No doubt that's why she's done a lot of thrillers and "dark" films. But she can also be hilarious — did you see her on the brilliant Popular as Wanda Rickets?



And then there are the rumors about her sexuality. Although Clea herself has neither confirmed nor denied, she has played a lesbian more than once, and has done gay-friendly films like the aforementioned Cheerleader, The Laramie Project and Itty Bitty Titty Committee.

All that said, I'm not sure I'm going to like Clea's next movie, Anamorph. The film stars Willem Dafoe as a detective on the trail of a serial killer who "turns his victims into works of art." Here's the trailer (be warned; it's pretty grisly):



As a horror fan and a Clea fan, I ought to be looking forward to this. But it seems kind of second-rate. And Clea's part looks small, not to mention straight and, of course, victim-y. As Cinematical says, "She might as well be listed as 'bait/love interest' in the credits." Sigh.

Anamorph is scheduled to debut in November. Clea also has a movie coming up on the Lifetime Movie Network, The Watch (premiering March 18). That one is also a thriller; Clea plays a student who attempts to move past a trauma by taking part in an isolation experiment. Uh, of course.

And IMDb notes three more films for her in 2008, two more in the horror/thriller genre and one comedy/drama, Thicker. (But her character's name in that one is Lonely, so don't worry; she's not going the bubbly rom-com route anytime soon.)

I don't really have a point to all of this. I think I just wanted to look at some pictures of Clea. Speaking of which, here are two more:

    is just - GORGEOUS! She has amazing arms, the cutest mouth, and a gravelly raspy but feminine voice that makes me go a bit squishy. I first saw her in The Faculty playing the lesbianish goth Stokes, and man I loved her from then on. I wanted to BE Stokes, even though she wound up wearing pastel purple and kissing the jock. she's just awesomely cool, and you know she does what she wants to.

    Thanks for the picture fest! We can never ever have too much Clea. I love how she's kept the same sort of chin-length bob for most of her adult life.

    What a lovely way to start my day. Wake up. Shower. Look at pictures of one of the most beautiful girls ever. Just lovely. Her 2007 film ten inch hero looks really good. I'm just hoping it gets realeased in a more public way soon!

    She does something to me too, maybe its those slightly sad eyes or her kick ass attitude, but hey I'm not going to analyse too much!

    I remember watching the Faculty in the theatre thinking, damn, who's that girl?

    Clea is an awesome actor...and of course she's hot.

    Jeez, I actually made some weird high-pitched sound when I saw Clea on the homepage. I love, love, LOVE her! She's one of my favorite actresses (and one of my biggest crushes), and she can do anything - tough girl (BIAC, The Faculty), vulnerable, sweet and innocent (Girl, Interrupted, Buffy, 21 Grams), and anything in between. I even watched Ghosts Of Mars for her - I wouldn't watch a movie that bad for just everybody, you know. Okay, it helped that Natasha Henstridge was there too. But still. Same goes for Helter Skelter. And Identity (well, that one was okay). And even in Heroes, I mean, she managed to make such a boring character kind of interesting.

     

    As for her sexuality... Isn't she dating Camila Grey from Uh Huh Her? Thought she didn't really keep that a secret. Plus, she has admitted to dating girls before. So i think she's either gay or bisexual. Which makes me happy.

     

    Oh man, I just love her. She can break my heart with one look and put it back together with that amazing smile of hers. I need to stop. I start to sound obsessed.

    I ADORE Clea... all her tv bits and films... just wanna pause so i can stare at her a bit longer.... ok is that a bit freakish?

    But she is so talented and seems that she chooses each film she makes carefully. totally adorable in Girl Interrupted and i must have watched But i'm a cheerleader a hundred times...... bliss

    This reminded me that I need to find that Clea/Leisha "bit" that was posted on here wow almost a year ago about the "green" roommate. That was hilarious and my partner never got to see it 'cause she had recently lost her vision. Now she's got some of it back and I've been telling her about all the great vlogs etc on AE. That was one I've wanted her to see for a long time...

     Oh, and the Worst Date stories re-enactment.

    Clea Duvall is definitely one of my favorites. She is always just so mysterious and draws you in with every character she plays. Can anyone on AE get her to be a guest vlogger some time!? that would be awesoooome.

    Loved Clea in Cheerleader, too.  "I like girls...a lot."  And when she holds up that cut-out of girls holding hands--it always puts a big lesbionic smile on my face. 

    But I wanted to ask about Carla Gallo since her name came up.  Any chance she's gay?  She's so cute, and I had a crush on her when she was on Undeclared.  Is she clicking on anyone's gaydar?

    I'm right there with everyone else on this topic... I've been "crushing" on Clea since I saw her back in the day on Buffy, The Vampire Slayer as the Invisible Girl. From that moment on I followed her career and started watching everything she was in.  
     
    I was thrilled when she most recently popped up again on the small screen on Heroes... sadly her character sort of disappeared and we haven't seen her around anymore on that show.
     
    I'm glad to hear that she has new projects coming out.
     
    I also thought that her "It's Not Easy Being Green" short with Leisha Hailey (another "crush" of mine) and Carla Gallo was terrific.
     

    Speaking of Leisha... it's Clea that took the photos of UH HUH HER that appear on their website gallery section!

    I love Clea!  I think she's so talented.  I like that she doesn't play the star in her movies, she's the supporting character who shines.

    I actually watch Girl, Interrupted over and over again just to get my Clea fix until But I'm a Chererleader came out on DVD. I miss Carnivale. That show was trippy and cool. Love that you mentioned Sleeping Beauties (made be the amazing Jaime Babbitt) which has another one of my crushes in it Radha Mitchell. I've actually been trying to see it again, but alas I am having little luck. Anyone know where I can find it?

    Huh interesting I just went over to IMDB and Leisha Hailey was in Sleeping Beauties as well.

    What is this movie and does anyone in Denver CO have a copy of it I can watch?  What's it about?  She's one of my favorite actresses and have seen pretty much everything else listed, but I have never heard of this movie and now I have to watch it.

    SLEEPING BEAUTIES was directed by Jamie Babbit and is among a number of short films that can be found on the compilation Girls on Film which is a 2002 PowerUP release.
     
    I got the film free when I joined Power-Up some years back... if I find out how to get a copy now, I'll be sure to update this post. 
     
    I've watched mine a lot, as it has other really great short films on it, including Leisha Hailey in Size 'Em Up, Michelle Paradises' original short The 10 Rules (which is where Exes and Ohs came from), Goodfaigolas starring Cathy DeBuono is also on this DVD and a number of others.

    Now you've gone and done it.  Posted something that made me stop and take the time to log-in.  I was just on my way out of the site and BAM!  There's Clea. 

    *sigh*

    I love Clea.  Thank you so much for sharing the Carnivale and Popular clips, and of course the But I'm a Cheerleader fan vid. 

    I am not a fan of horror/thriller films.  I was even afraid to watch The Faculty.  Extremely overactive imagination leads to me in a closet with a Louisville Slugger ready to take down the first shadow that comes my way.  *whispers*  I didn't even watch Buffy when it was on tv because of this hyper-active fear factor. *shhh*  I know I hang my head in shame.

    How awesome would it be for Clea to make an appearance in Dollhouse?   Joss, did you hear me?  Clea...  Dollhouse... 

    I may be renting her upcoming films so I can fast forward the "scary" bits and focus on the Clea has a sexy voice bits.  Even if I have to mute the tv, I can still watch her lips move...  nice lips.
