What's YOUR Problem? Episode 15

In last week's episode, actresses Cathy DeBuono and Jill Bennett spent time on an L.A. roof top with eight girls from out of town who had all met and become friends via the internet.

This week, we hear more from the girls about dating, coming out, and how they chose their AfterEllen.com user names. And Cathy rifles through Charlie' wallet... just 'cause...

    Big Up #2

Got to give another "big up" to the lovely ladies!  You know you're Rock Stars! ;)

Loved that Jill was on again because I'm having some serious Jill withdrawl and am missing WGN.

(To be youself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.)

And this is one of the reasons. Phenomenal as usual, Jill & Cathy, you guys are too damn funny.

This was a funny Vlog, and I liked it when you all talked about how to come out to your friends and family. I am coming out slowly to my friends and to some of the people at the university, but I didn't come out to my parents yet and that is just because of how my parents behave and talk about gay people, and because they are sooo religios and has another culture that they are following.

To understand, I come from Lebanon but have been living in Sweden from the time I was 2 years old.

    Love your Vlog, Like always...

    I'm from Indiana...

Hell, I've been openly gay for over 20 years in Indiana, so there are a few of us at least. It really depends on where you live -- We're in Indianapolis, where no one bats an eye. My girlfriend and I are having a huge wedding in a park in downtown Indianapolis next weekend, and half the neighborhood helped get the park ready for it.

I know that living in a city makes a big difference, but if you're wanting to connect with people, check out the OurChart group of people from Indiana, or try Match.com.

WYP Ep15 (with the lovely Jill)

It is so great that Cathy and Jill got the opportunity to talk to this group of girls.  It must have been an amazing time for all of them to go to California and on top of that meet Cathy and Jill. California dreaming myself. Hope the girls had a great time.

    Awesome

Glad to have you back and see this "relaxed vlog".

I can relate to this stories cause when I came out I was the only lesbian everyone had ever met.... until 2 of my friends came out to me, but since they are still in the closet I´m the one who has to answer the stupid questions my friends ask.

    "Your not an Afterellen Vlogger"

Reeked of "dont you know who i am"   LOL!

I hate people invading personal space, especially if i dont really like them.

1: Tapping is so annoying! and 2 pulling hair to get attention is even worse, someone wasnt socialised as a baby! she needs to work on her social skills!

Great Vlog, good real life situations discussed as well as some humour. Such a good mix!

    !

Seeing so many people who are not out yet still have a queer community to reach out to is beyond awesome. I'm very proud to be a part of this community too. Cheers to Afterellen for making life that much easier for so many women around the world.

    great idea ...

Asking about the origin of user names - loved the stories - and now I totally want a talking guinea pig! :)

And best line - Cathy wins - "You were assaulted head to toe" - she pulled Jill's weave and chipped her pedi - the nerve of that woman!

another fab episode as usual - thanks for being real - to all of you ladies!

    Coming Out

is the most difficult thing I ever did as a two year old. Great vlog Cathy, as usual. You and Jill are funny together, I think the funniest couple on afterellen. Cathy you are very hot in your red tank.

    Coming out....

I love hearing all these stories. For anyone wanting to hear a ood one for encouragement.

I came out at 17 to my first girlfriend (and the person I've been with for 3 yrs now, aww how sweet) through the net, met a big group of lesbians, then came out to my family (5 siblings) and they all took it well, especially my brother who was 15 and now 18 and does not have a typical teenage boy attitude (he understands theres no point to fantasying about lesbians!). I kinda left it to my mum to tell everyone else! Her parents are amazing, my grandad is ex army and is very strict, and he took my aside and said he loved me still, and me and my girlfriend spent the day with them and I've never seen him talk so much to someone in my life than he did with my girlfriend. Even my 86 yr old great nan is good about it. I've not had one neggative reaction!

The only sucky thing is I live in a small town with no real gay community and all my mates live away from here, but its a good excuse to party in London (Where they live)

How cool! Specially your grandparents taking it so well.

LOL @ the Liverpool accent, love it =)

To all the English girls, go a weekend to Brighton! Its so gay and 99% chance youll find someone.

to the clown room.  You know the more I watch, the more I realize how comfortable Jill and Cathy are and funny, very funny with each other.  I liked the girls advice on coming out, especially whoever said to just get it over with and then you can move on, I think that's right.  As for where to meet girls, I've always had luck at the laundra mat and the whole foods grocery store.  Barnes and Nobles ain't bad either.   Another fantastic vlog.

    INDIANA!

I grew up in Indiana too!!  I did the same thing Angel does...don't actually come out but wear rainbow shoelaces and necklaces and stuff.  I think all my friends figured it out, but I kept denying it...which I regret doing now.   When I lived in Indiana I thought I was like the only lesbian in the whole town. Now I live in Madison, WI (for college...it's like the gayest place lol) and now when I go back to Indiana I'm actually meeting a ton out out girls.  It's awesome.  I think it's just being in high school that made me feel alienated.

ANYWAY!! Awesome vlog.  Way to represent Indiana!

I love hearing from Indiana girls! Funny that we both did/do the same thing, sad that we had to do subtle things like that instead of just being out. :)

    That's what I did!

Like Charlie said, a good way to begin the coming out process (should you be in college at the time you choose to do so) is to join the campus GLA (gay & lesbian alliance). People will in some cases start to put 2 and 2 together so less work for you, but you are at also guaranteed a group of pple that are or have been or will be going through the coming out process. Having them was also good for my confidence - after a while I felt as though it doesn't matter how bad your folks or friends might take it, eventually they have to deal (however long that takes, I suppose). Seek solace in community folks! It truly does help.

How unfortunate is it that my best friends are all straight and not the queer folks *sigh* W/e! Nice vlog ladies =)

I was a student in Liverpool so I know a few gay bars there. I recall someone of them were a bit skanky and needed a bit of a clean. I remember going to GBar and it was the most grimmy place I've ever been to.

There was that annoying bar beside it full of straight girls making out for guys next to it, I hated that place because they always sent me leaflets full of pictures of bleached blonde straight girls making out. What was that about?

    Wench2007's picture

that would of been Garlands, which is mainly occpied these days by the 'breeders'. garlands is one of those 'superclubs', rather like Cream was in Liverpool and GAY in London.

The Curzon is a skanky club, I would never argue with that. All in all though Liverpool does a lot better than a lot of places, if you don't like that I enjoyed many anight on Canal Street in manchester, thats only 30min away on the train.......

    Liverpool

There's actully a really good women's gay scene in Liverpool.

Have a search of myspace for 'Girls Go Down' events. There's a club night first sunday of every month in a bar on lark 'lesbian' lane, a lesbian film club that meets at FACT regularly and a 'Brunch Out' event once a month for both gays and lesbians and their straight friends.

    This was inspirational

I have never left a comment before but I just wanted to say how amazing it was to hear about peoples stories from somewhere that was near me, (liverpool) I have been out now four years and it is nice to hear how people how coped with it and how it effects their lives and how similar the coming out experience can be with the fear and everything!

Afterellen for me was the only place when i was younger that i had which i could feel part of a community and still do, thanks for this vlog and for all the girls that shared their experience it was heart warming, now i am leaving before i get really touchy feely ick!! hehe

    Funny girls

all of them.  I love the mixture of accents.  Speaking of Xena.  I met up with a community of lesbians because of that t.v. show.  It was great because it gave me a community of gay people to interact with because I live in Imaho the most conservative state in the union next to Utah.  Now I meet up with these people once a year, talk to them regularly on the computer and on the phone and it's a great support system.  So I made a family that was accepting of me as I was and then my real family somehow became more accepting.  Cathy you vlogs are the best, I love each and everyone of them and I love you for doing them.  Keep up the great work.

    World Wide Lesbians

Nice to see the AE women from all over the world.  Makes our community even nicer!

Jill and Cathy have a great rapport.  They are a delight to see on any VLOG they are in!

I came out rather late in life and only knew 2 gay people.  When I went to the local LGBT Center, the most lesbians I met were kind of diesel dykie and I cried because I thought that, OMG I am not like that, how can I be gay?  Thanks to an online community (on Prodigy at the time) I was able to handle myacceptance of self and that helped me with my coming out process.

Like one of the ladies on the vlog said, I don't advertise I am gay, but I don't deny it and I will talk freely about my gf and share different stories of events I have been to with friends.  I'm fortunate I am accepted for myself as a good and kind person, not just by whom I choose to love.

I chose my screen name long ago from my Prodigy days.  I love to 'explore' life, learn new things, go new places so hence the name, Explorergal!
