Gimme Sugar: Episode 1

In the first episode of Logo's new reality series Gimme Sugar, about five friends in their early 20s in L.A., the women decide to start their own night club. (They don't actually know anything about starting a night club, but where would be the fun in that?)

In short: it's a show about attractive women making stupid decisions and creating unnecessary drama while using grammatically incorrect sentences. But at least they're queer women! And actually friends.

Overall, I found the episode entertaining, even if I was rolling my eyes repeatedly while watching it. Check it out below and leave your $.02 in the comments. (You can also read Malinda Lo's take on it here.)

Whoo Gimme Sugar is posted Early!

    I'm liking the show already.

    keanabug's picture

    omggg!!!!!

I'm officially addicted! It seems like one of those shows that I won't admit to anyone that I love to watch just like the show that shall not be named with the girl who's bi-sexuality is very questionable and her morality even more. It's got such senseless drama and hot girl hookups and train wrecks to boot. Definately a guilty pleasure so far.

Dosen't hurt that they're all hot.

but it was FUN to read Sarah Warn's intro to the show, specially the "it's a show about cute women making stupid decisions while using gramatically incorrect sentences" hillarious.

    gotta go!

Why was I thinking the exact same thing! Watching this made me feel old. and i'm not.

I think i'm going to go with Sarah on this one. I found it amusing.

On the other hand, I do love the shots of Here. Here and the Abbey are my favorite clubs in LA mostly because the music and the people are just crazy. The clips totally made me nostalgic.

    WORD

    I share your sentiments.

I foresee that this will be canceled like all of Logo's other reality shows should it continue on this way. The whole time I was thinking "who are these people? And Really?" I too rolled my eyes a few times, especially towards the end with Devonee and her shenanigans. I'm all for sleaze... but when it's tastefully done (if that makes any sense). But I'll keep watching. Not like there's much else on the boob tube.

    I really liked this show,

I really liked this show, you can tell that they're all friends with the exception of Syah (sp?) She seemed like she was deliberately placed there. Otherwise great show I will definitely be watching next week.

Question to Sarah or anyone who knows, why do all the TV shows on logo only run for like 6-8 episodes? Why not the same as network tv or at least L word 12?

    I agree Logo has some

    I agree

    Logo has some seriously lame shows;

I love New York, A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila, and now this one.

    Why?

    keanabug's picture

    VH1 produced I Love New

VH1 produced I Love New York (How can you even get that mixed up, I Love New York has NO gay themes what-so-ever except Sister Pattersons gay bashing and New York questioning if some of the contestants are gay) and A Shot At Love was produced by MTV.

The heart has its reasons which reason knows not of.

    pecola's picture

    That's What I Call Equality

MTV Networks owns them all--LOGO, VH1 and, of course, MTV.

It's hard to deny the similarities between this show and equally vacuous reality shows on MTV or VH1.

    This show makes me happy...

    1) that I never wanted to be (nor was I) part of the "cool" group;

    2) that I never looked twice at "players"

    3) that I am I'm out of my twenties (althought it does make me feel old!)

    4) that drama has never been a huge part of my life

I'm not sure if I'll watch it regularly, but I can see it becoming a way to pass time on a Monday evening (until SMMWT comes back - please come back soon!! --  I like grammatically correct sentences!)

Any road is a good road when you don't know where you're going.

    awww

you never had a cool kid club card?

i don't know....these girls remind me of how i am with my friends. when i'm with them, proper grammar goes out the window. annnnd we always make up new words and then make fun of each other for making up those new words

    I'm young and queer too,

I'm young and queer too, but this part of "lesbian" culture, this "let's objectify women" or "let's be like Shane" thing is way too misogynist and immature for me to get into and enjoy.

    shi's picture

    Couldn't agree more.

    Couldn't agree more.

I'm young and queer, but really, having fun young doesn't always have to be like that.  Too immature, and they're the total opposite of what I wanna find in a woman.

    Oh well.

    tenten1988's picture

i thought it would be maturly good but no, it's immaturely good.

the show is full of drama and stupidity. that one girl, bathila, she can't say anything right. yes, they're all cute but they get mad over the stupidest things. and alex totally acted like she was underage that night when she couldn't get into the club. she was acting like as if it was her birthday. her birthday was ten days away, she could have waited. i guess she's too use to getting what she wants.

devonee, that player attitude is just frustrating to have to see. it was nice to see her cry at the end though, it shows that she knows she's acting immature in relationships.

the newbie, she seems boring, yeah, she does need to come out.

this show really is a good because it's stupid, i laughed the whole time.

well, at least my monday nights arent boring.

    paradisesofar's picture

    Looks like...

This show reminds me of  the scene a year ago in my town.. Hook ups... drama... and bad decisions... I do not like that Devonee girl at all... Makes me thankful I do not participate in that scene anymore..

But i am addicted.. is that sad??

    dp_jocs's picture

    Oh boy!!

I've been waiting for this!! now it's finally here!!

I really like this show because I personally don't get to see/experience the lesbian night life (it's sad.really sad.)... This makes me wanna live in LA right now! hahaha

and oh, Alex is hot...she kinda reminds me of Mischa Barton (I mean that in a good way! coz I actually like Mischa!)

Can't wait for the next eppy!! The preview at the end was hot! (was that Alex kissing another girl?? HOT)

    purple_squirrel's picture

    Mischa

she reminded me of her too, and I don't even know her well as I barely watched the OC..

in looks and how she spoke, i realised when she said she had a boyfriend, that sentence really sounded like her

... so far, none of them are really very interesting, its early days granted, don't know if i will watch it further - perhaps as a lot of the stuff mentioned here i don't have in the UK so net stuff is good. but tbh i find pretty much all the vloggers on here much more interesting than anybody on this first episode of 'Gimme Sugar'.. but then, perhaps they've made my standards too high?

    Koo's picture

    Humorous

The show was kind of funny. Watching this just re-affirms why I avoid the dyke club scene, man. Women=drama. LOL. Davonee is just a mess....she didn't think she was cheating when she was about to go home with some other broad while her girlfriend was up in the club looking for her? SMH. All that being said, I will be watching this next week.
    themythofthefront's picture

    just another reality show...

that happens to have cute, young, lesbians. Besides that, I'm not amused.

    Really.

    Really.

I'm sorry I can't get into the consumeristic, unnecessary drama-filled, and fake life that is represented on these LA "reality" shows. Even if there are cute lesbians and Chantelle or Chanelle or whatever looks like a girl I hooked up with at a bar once.

    ETA: Her name is Charlene.

    Regardless! Pass.

    Whaaaat the f**K is this?

I wasn't amused with the preview of Gimme Sugar, but I turned on the teli and it was on, so I gave it a look. It was worse than I thought. Im 20, and this "reality" of a show has assssssinine written all over it. I've got one question LOGO, CAN'T YOU DO ANY BETTER!?

    jennifer from pittsburgh's picture

Dear God in heaven is this

Dear God in heaven is this show bad. I don't think even prayer can save it, not that I pray, or I'd waste prayer on this atrocity. I'd say that I'm old and that I just don't get it, but this show goes so far beyond age that it offends people not even born yet. Inanity, you have a home.
    Better's picture

"offends people not even born yet"

    Haha I agree!

Has anyone alerted the LA tourist board? This actually puts me off visiting. Someone tell me that this is not an accurate representation??

    sloane's picture

    hmmm

this show reminds me of why i backed off the club scene about a year and a half ago: skimpy clothes + alcohol (among other vices) + loud music in a dark club= dyke drama. it is nice to see some woc included but does it have to be about clubbing? i'd be more interested in seeing a group of young women help organize pride in their city or put together a social justice organization, rather than a club night that would really only benefit them by putting money in their pockets. from my first impression of the cast, everybody seems a bit shallow, immature, and egotistical; especially davonee. ugh! what is her problem? does she think she's shane? first of all, any real player worth her salt does not do obvious shit to get caught...davonee seems like a lot of people probably know her (and probably don't like her); did she not think that it would probably get back to her gf that she was making out with some girl in a club? you never know who is watching so the first rule of the game is to never do your dirt where somebody you know might blow up your spotit's obvious that she just really has no respect at all for her relationship. when she said that maybe she should be alone for awhile that was the smartest thing i heard on the entire show all night.

    Stephx's picture

    Yeah

I agree with everything you've said- esp. -

    Well put.

Logo, get your act together and have reality shows (if you must) about lesbians that will inspire and encourage not turn away and roll their eyes!

    tranl30's picture

    No Sugar please.......

Seriously, the show was so overly exaggerated. I would compare this show to trashy shows like Rock of love, Tila Tequila, I love NY, and Flavor of love. Ewwww! You can tell that the girls were acting up in front of the cameras. Please, give me a break. I was nauseated after the first 3 minutes. I haven't experience the LA lesbian club scene yet, but if they are who I should expect to run into, I'd rather stay home. I honestly was annoyed by the show. And that will be the last time I even try to watch any of their episodes. Talk about overly hyped, I rather see cameras follow the We're getting Nowhere girls and Bridget Mcmanus all day. They don't act up in front of the cameras and they keep you laughing.
    herdon87's picture

    during the intro i REALLY

during the intro i REALLY wanted to like alex...because she was athletic AND and comedian. i was like "yesssss...". but alas, none of the girls really struck a chord with me....and i'm not gonna lie...the show made me cringe a little. granted, it was a semi-entertaining 20 minutes...that i'll never get back again...

Only for you Sarah Warn did

Only for you Sarah Warn did I endure 10 minutes and 32 seconds of this show. I am all for visability but this show is garbage. These people have done nothing worth putting the spotlight on and I really want to give all of them, minus the DJ girl, a good slap! That behavior makes no sense.
