News, Reviews & Commentary on Lesbian and Bisexual women in Entertainment and the Media

TV Alert: "Bones" lesbian episode airs Wednesday night on Fox

In the next episode of Bones (Fox) — "The Skull In the Sculpture," airing tomorrow night at 8pm — Angela's (Michaela Conlin) previously mentioned ex-girlfriend Roxie, played by In Plain Sight's Nichole Hiltz, finally makes an appearance when she becomes a suspect in a murder investigation.

In this promo for the episode, Booth is taken aback to learn that Angela and Roxie were together for a year, and Bones wants to know what the big deal is:

Look for our review of the episode late Wednesday night — but be forewarned: it's no coincidence that we're getting a lesbian-themed episode of Bones in the middle of Sweeps. After this episode, Angela will most likely go back to being bisexual in the same way that Callie on Grey's Anatomy is (i.e. it will rarely be mentioned again).

    Seriously?

Just another sweeps ploy! I'm so frustrated with TV right now especially after Grey's Anatomy has ruined the one! semi realistic protrayal of lesbians and their love on network television! I think I'm going to stick with Afterellen, YouTube, and fanfiction for my lesbian entertainment for now on. Thankyouverymuch! :p

    "Bones" is the only show

"Bones" is the only show with ALL likeable leads.. straight or gay, I love this show! but let me be a little simple-minded right now, ok here we go.. YAY! ANGELA IS GAY!

    david boreanaz...

i'm in love with david boreanaz. he's the only straight guy i will say that about, since i was in love with him before i realized i like girls (back when he was angel on buffy, although looking back i had an equally huge crush on faith).

emily deschanel is pretty hot too. is it just me and my wishful thinking, or did the way she said "women tend to not be as rigid in their sexual identities as men" and how she asked booth what the big deal is seem to hint at the possibility that she also has some kind of history with women? =]

    agreed!

LOVE emily deschanel and david boreanaz (though he's a little too puffy for my taste - spike was WAY hotter on buffy) and their chemistry. and a little sapphic backstory to Angela, even if it's just for an episode? Im in!

Although, i have to say, what im really looking forward to this week (besides Obama being elected, that is) is the return of Lady Heather to CSI! i havent seen the show in a few seasons, but all i know is, Melinda Clarke is my favorite guest star ever, whether she's Julie Cooper or getting it on with Grissom.  she and gil have ridiculous chemistry (heck, the woman could have a relationship with a wall and i'd watch), and thursday, im tuning back into CSI just for her!

    First time.....

    yay i'm done lurking!

anyway, i know that it is just for sweeps and just another "obstacle" for Hodgins and Angela, but I hope that it doesn't just disappear. Based on these interview snippets I have a little hope(but just a little.)

The Angela/Roxie/Hodgins "love triangle" storyline has energized the set
“The actors are having some fun with it. Michaela was so excited to just go there and do that stuff, and it, it just brings another element to her and Hodgins. It works for us. There needs to be sources of a conflict in the lab, you know, where these, these very good actors are, are working to keep people interested. We need to give them the tools that they need to keep that stuff going, and, you know, Michaela has really – she’s really spread her wings. She’s really been a lot of fun to watch. In fact, she’s been so much fun to watch that it has had an effect on the storyline; that we think well, wait a minute; maybe we should go here now or instead of slamming back into what we first had in mind.”

    and...

We'll see more of both Roxie (Angela's girlfriend) and Jared (Booth's brother) throughout the rest of the season
There are more storylines to come from both of them, yes. Stuff happens. Stuff happens and they figure very importantly in what happens. You know, we’ve got a gravedigger. We’ve got our, you know, our serial kidnapper. That’s our first one back in January, and Jared figures very, very importantly in that episode.

and this is a bit of the teaser for episode 10

"Meanwhile, back in the states, Angela and Roxie’s relationship progresses as Hodgins (TJ Thyne) tries to move on in an all-new BONES."\

oh, and I wish bones did have a history with women, but I think thats bones being bones.

    Oh Bones...

As much as I would love Angela's bisexuality to become a solid part of the show I can guarantee tomorrow's episode will keep me happy for a while. I love that show soooo much, I've got the first two seasons on dvd and am waiting impatiently for season 3. The cast is wonderful, the characters are all lovable and the plot lines are always interesting.

And y'know, Emily and Michaela are pretty smokin' hot. Hopefully Roxie will actually stick around for a bit and queer up the show.

    puzzled...

What makes it "ok" to accept and tolerate gay and lesbian tv themes?  Why do I have to tolerate them and be pleased to see them if my first impression is nausea?  Is the lesbian/gay community so convinced that a sexual orientation isn't a matter of choice but biology, and even if it is biology we should surrender to it, like the other nature born urges that do not separate us as intelligent beings? I really detest seeing these themes in a show underscored as "ok" and "oppressing" the airwaves with a brand of morality to which I disagree with.  I have seen them in episodes placed in the best possible limelight, and my views are not assuaged.  So you've had your opportunity to convince me that gay and lesbian views are laudable and to be embraced.   Perhaps I am wrong, and I am sure I will be told so, but promoting gay and lesbian views won't do the lasting community any favors.  If everyone is gay and or lesbian, in a generation, we'll all be dead and the human race will be ended.  And if our communities invest in gay/lesbian households, the investment will have no generational return to the community.   Has anyone truly considered the life long effects of adopting these views and what kind of impact this might have for our children if it grows beyond a minority but into a majority view? ....just wondering wth hollywood is thinking?  Please tell me how and why I am wrong.  I am curious to hear your response.

you wanna know my response to your 'ideas'?

here it is: "put down your crack pipe", and as for your next comment which is 'sorry to intrude' - so, your comments would be ok on a 'non-gay' site? your comments are more than intrusive. they're backwards and very sad, but don't worry, we're not upset. gay people have been dealing with that sort of warped point of view for a very long time. just like black people had to deal with white people who thought that 'race-mixing' - both in real life and on tv - was something immoral that shouldn't be 'pushed' in their faces.

now I feel like an idiot

Some how I got on this site from reading about Bones...a show I watch, had no idea I was responding on a lesbian/gay site, just thought I was responding to a discussion about TV shows in general.  Did not mean to intrude.
