a great film..
Reason vs. excuse...
Cute film, has a very Californian sensibility to it. However, the "I'm secretly in love with my best friend" routine is a bit old. Too many lesbians are looking for perfection in other women, it doesn't exist, not even in your best friend. Sometimes you really do have to accept people the way they are, flaws and all.
The acting wasn't very
The acting wasn't very impressive, but it was a nice film overall, I like the concept.
Congrats!!
Congratulations Carol!! I did really enjoy this film. Although, I have to wonder is Elle (the director) Caroline's alter ego?? Inquiring minds want to know? Good luck, Much love from the rest of the retro reviewers! -Rina
My opinion on "Too Much Plaid"
I like that the majority of the people in the short film were Asian (generalizing) American. (which I say is not very visible in the lgbt community that I have noticed so far). Also the acting cast are cuties!
However I do agree with the comment by Imomo, "acting wasn't very impressive". Also I do not really understand the short film title "Too Much Plaid". Is it representing the main character's dating strategy of always being stuck with liking a female for a short while than breaking up with her?
This short film was average, somewhat enjoyable. Reminds me of other films or short films of similar themes.
Thanks.
The title has to do with
The title has to do with the excuse that she's giving for breaking up with the current girlfriend.

I laughed a few times :)
Not bad, although some of the actors needed to ennunciate a bit more.
Beautiful people.
Fantastic Job Caroline!

Congrats on being one of the finalist. You did a fantastic job. I love the flashback camera effects. How clever!
Good luck to you too.
The womyn in your film are so,so HOT!

Oh wow
Yay for Asian visibility!
... Some lines were funny, which sorta balanced out the fact I felt like slapping Elle for using all kinds of lame excuses for breaking up with whoever she's dating at that moment.

the acting wasn't very good
the acting wasn't very good in this. especially the lead character was not very convincing. how a seemingly moody girl with anger issues that is constantly pissed of gets all these girls is beyond my comprehension. I just didn't feel this one. The first film was way better imo.

Coolest short film!!!! good
clingy girls
I didn't like it so much, but I loved the "spider monkey" actress.

Definitely liked it better
Definitely liked it better than the first winner.
The acting wasn't amazing, but all the girls were cute :) Especially Elle and the girl with the short bleached hair. She was hot!
Plus it's set in the Bay Area - Berkeley represent!
oh it was lovely!
This is more like it!
Great acting...it really stood out for me. If you consider that it's a short film with new or no-name actors...they did a GREAT job...ten times better than the last short film on here.
And the shooting was pretty decent...directing was good...all around a great film with a great little story!
And the black actress...she's friggen beautiful!

Bathroom scene, awesome
yeah! lmao! I actually
Oh yes...
I most definitely 2-ply my ass gasket before I relieve myself.
Oh yeah, and great flick.
That was the best scene, by
That was the best scene, by far. The chattering was hilarious!
I also liked Elle with the tie on her head during the credits. That was all pretty much gold.
Horizontal stripes??
I can forgive one time.... but Horizonal Stripes in All the scenes????!!
=O
lol
This short was too long!
This film didn't do much for me other than the fact that all the women were gorgeous and that there's finally some great Asian American representation out there for a LGBTQ short.
Other than that the film was way, way too long to be a decent short. 16 minutes!! ahhh!!!! My advice to them is cut, cut, cut!
This short relied too heavily on flashbacks which doesn't make for a strong story and is hard to execute well in any short films. This reminded me of High Fidelty which also used lots of flashbacks.
The story was boring and needed to cut to the chase. The performances weren't that great either.
Don't get me wrong this film had it's comedic moments but those were all lost with poor story execution.
That was really cute. I love
good job.
good job.
haha true.
Elle reminds me of...
...my friend. Girls dig her. Yet she tends to find flaws in them. Or once she gets to know them, she'll lose interest. Not that she's looking for the "perfect" woman (or maybe she is, good luck to her!)...or she's just commitment-phobic...but I'm pretty sure she's not in love with me (and vice-versa). That would be just too...awkward! :-P
I thought the acting was all right. The clingy girlfriend was a tad over the top but she was the funniest of all. :) And I like how Elle's best friend is so droll in doling out advice.
And in conclusion, I just wanna say..."MABUHAY!" for featuring hot gaysians! :D

haha gaysians.
haha hot gaysians are the best :)
we're the best.
Great and FUN
Best bathroom scene! Oh my was that creative, original and FUNNY! Second to that are the last scenes when the gf's are talking about Elle after the fact.
The camera work and editing are professional level. I liked that the movie has a lot of different locations we go with the characters.
I was a bit bored at first thinking the actors were a bit stiff and I didn't know what was going on, like who are they to each other, what exactly was the issue (language/culture? jealousy? sisters/gfs/room-mates?) and they both seemed a bit over-angry...
All the women are adorable and I enjoyed the natural acting (even the stiffness can be forgiven at this stage of things). Loved the range of character for all the temporary gfs.
I really do not think the movie title makes sense (even though someone gave an explanation in a post here). And, I thought the ending was confusing. It would make sense if she ended up with "Plaid".
I think I was waiting to meet this "too much plaid" woman and she was going to "be the one". I actually thought from the filming that that was happening, until the other small scenes came on.
Actually, from the chemistry in the "Plaid" scene, I'd go with that rather than the best friend thing (which I didn't like at all--overdone theme).
I thought I'd picked my favorite; now I'm going to have to sort this...
what are they talking about?
Much Appreciation
Thank you EVERYONE for your comments. This project was made possible by the support of the Queer Women of Color Media Art Project and the key figures in front of and behind the camera. With less than two weeks to assemble a small, but mobile crew, hold last minute auditions, and secure locations, and an additional week to shoot the production before I left to move to Boston, I am truly amazed at the dedication and commitment of the cast and crew who brought this picture to life. The most I value about this project were the friendships built in such a short amount of time.
To piggyback on Olivia's response, the gag reel during credits was purely improvised. The idea didn't come to mind until mid-week during the shoot. And the actresses in the car did not know the camera was rolling, but stayed in character even after I yelled, "Cut!"
Thank you again for your comments and your constant support of all the filmmakers who submitted their work in this contest.

I thought it was pretty
I thought it was pretty good!
i thought the acting was pretty good too, except the bit where she gets a bit angry. Actresses seemed pretty good and good looking too. main one reminds me of.. an asian Tegan/Sara

Wow. Well done.
Wow. Well done.
cute!
lol what a cute short film
the restroom scene w/ Laine covering the toilet seat was priceless
good job caroline!
amazazazing
i loved the film.
the chemistry between elle and laine is so natural that i couldn't help but want them to get together in the end... too bad it was only in the gag reel. elle seemed like a nervous but cuter version of shane... quite similar to the personality of someone else associated with the film.
anyways, point being, this was an amazing film and it not only made me appreciatethe strong roles that caroline le provided for asian american women but also made me reflect on my own failed relationships and the excuses i've found to justify them. this is a great film, far better than the rest and i think it should win. =)
I've watched
All the shorts. I think as far as overall content goes you have my vote. The filming, sound, acting, editing and script were all very good. This short was well put together. Great job!
P.S. this short was too long??? What are ya talking about up there...16 minutes is very acceptable and it held my attention. =]
NICE
wow!
That was my favorite short by far! Great acting, funny scenes...
..And damn, Elle is hot ;D
hehe
This was a cool film, loved the toilet scene with laine, the overtalking had me rofl.

Cute film!
I def. had several favorite scenes but the rambling Laine/toilet scene takes the cake!
I liked it
Not too Bad. I liked the story line, although acting could have been better

omg, I love the restroom scene. It would be perfect if cutting out the last part. In love with best friend, come on, too corny I have to say
the rambling was awesome !
indeed, absolutely amazing!
