Great Vlog!
I think the whole "we need
I think the whole "we need a Christian as President" illustrates just how truly conservative America is. I mean, a black man and a woman are the leads in the Democratic race, but people are insisting on having a Christian. I think this shows how people think they are open-minded, but.....they aren't really.
Great vlog, guys!
God & Politics
As a non-american it seems to me that religion (usually Christianity) is a regular feature in all matters relating to politics.
Presidents, Congresswomen/man, Senators and occasionally other officials (in the appropriate states) always seem to base part of their campaigns on emphasizing their association with religion (by having Sunday photo shoots outside their church, mentioning god in speeches, telling how much religion helped them find their way in life and so on and so on).
As someone who grow up in a far more religious country (from a legal stand point, at least) than the USA, I don’t remember non-religious politicians ever talking much about god. The ones on the center and the left of the political map, most certainly didn’t end every speech to the nation by mention god.
I was always puzzled by this.
As for the speech; good for him for standing his ground and not pretending that he is appalled by the man. Instead, explaining that he does not agree with him and closing the book on the matter (hopefully).
I think American politics had enough cowboy dramatics and extremist absolutes in the past 8 years. Maybe its time for a more human approach that takes into account the complexities of almost everything in life and does not pander to either extreme.
Democratic primary - a question
I'm following the US election avidly, but I keep hearing two expressions that (as a non-American) are baffling to me. Can anyone help out a poor old bewildered lesbian?
1. What's a "keystone state"? (And where does the expression come from?)
2. What the heck do the commentators mean when they ponder the implications of Obama "bowling 37"? What on earth is "bowling 37" and why does it matter?
