4 THOSE OF U WHO R NOT AWARE OF OBAMA’S ACCOMPLISHMENTS LET ME E

4 THOSE OF U WHO R NOT AWARE OF OBAMA’S ACCOMPLISHMENTS LET ME ENLIGHTEN YOU:
    Obama’s MANY legislative accomplishments

Just because Texas State Senator Kirk Watson, who supports Barack Obama, was unable to list Barack Obama’s legislative accomplishments for an apparently bloodthirsty Chris Matthews on MSNBC last night, that doesn’t mean there are none to list. Quite the contrary.

During Obama’s first 8 years of his elected service he sponsored over 820 bills. He introduced:

    233 regarding healthcare reform,
125 on poverty and public assistance,
    112 crime fighting bills,
    97 economic bills,
60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills,
    21 ethics reform bills,
    15 gun control,
6 veterans affairs and many others.

In his first year alone in the US. Senate, Barack Obama authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427. These included:

**the Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 (became law),
**The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, (became law),
**The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate,
**The 2007 Government Ethics Bill, (became law),
**The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, (In committee)

    … and many more.

See the bills and the candidates’ public records, and learn more at the Library of Congress online, http://www.thomas.loc.gov.

Although the media are acting like Watson’s unfortunate interview proves Obama is all style & no substance, the proof is in the pudding — or, in this case, in the public record.

    HERE IS MANY MORE ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Here’s what he’s done in the 110th Congress, albeit while spending TONs of time on the campaign trail. Note that this list doesn’t include his most important accomplishments of
    1) Ethics Reform
2)Securing loose nuclear weapons from terrorists
    3) Transparency in Government (usspending.gov)
4)Immigration reform-working on politically difficult subject to secure meaningful reform- did not ultimately pass

    Definately agree with the

Definately agree with the above poster.

I've noticed a greatly building pro-Clinton/anti-Obama sentiment coming from these two, and it's been getting on my nerves. I understand that everyone has their own personal beliefs and opinions, but you can't let that get in the way of what is supposed to be objective reporting. This is not a Hillary 08 blog. It's a Presidential Race 08 blog.

Obama wins 10 states in a row, and he suddenly steals the lead from Clinton, so instead of talking about that, let's go on a cruise? No. Just becuase the primary is not going the way one may like it to, that doesn't mean you just ignore it or change the subject. I myself am an Obama supporter, but I'd be fine if Clinton got the nomination. Because, get this, they're basically the same candidate. They have almost identitcal positions on MANY political issues, and their only major differences  comes from how they are and come across as a person. I understand that can mean a lot to some people, but when it comes down to it, I think they'd both do a similar job in the oval office. I just don't understand how anyone supporting one of the candidates can be SO against the other one when they are really so similar.

And of course, the fact that the Republican race has barely been touched on bothers me too. I know that McCain's a shoe-in, and most gay people tend to be Democrats anyway, but at least give a little more effort to give a clear assesment of all sides.

I just really wish this blog could be more objective, as political reporting should be.

What point are you trying to

What point are you trying to make by referring to Clinton using those words?  Seriously,no matter what your politics are, referring to her as a "ho" and "$itch" is very unnecessary and hardly behavior that the man you are rooting for would condone.

I wouldn't worry too much about that first post because I'm sure it will get deleted.  That person obviously joined just to spew misogynistic hate.  The fact that the poster repeatedly refers to this site as After Allen speaks for itself.

    Agreed.

Completely unnecesarry...and I think, given some of the things that Barack Obama's said about that language in hip-hop, I'm sure he wouldn't approve.

And also is not just them two which is anti-Obama the whole dmm after Allen website is anti Obama Remember when Billary was in the lead all the after Allen blogs was about the shady Billary

A little message two after Allen We are Awake!! One

Since we have made it rain on those Billary hoes, I’m moving forward to address Ol' Dirty Bastard McCain.

the word On the street is that Ol` McCain stated something along the lines of being in Iraq for the next 100 years. Not a direct quote. When I heard that I said, WTF.

Biggest secret non-secret: That’s CINDY’S family’s money McCain has been using all this time. She’s the heiress. He wouldn’t have gotten anywhere without golddigging. Cindy and John had an affair after he left Vietnam. He left his wife — the same wife who had waited patiently for him Penelope riding for Odysseus style and had borne him three children — for a skank substantially younger than him. It was one of Cindy’s family homes’ addresses in Arizona that he used to run for office in Arizona. Ol` dirty bastard McCain is a carpetbagger and a golddigger.

In response to your post 7691 and #1fan.

One reason that you will find people on this site are Anti-Obama if you can even describe one group as anti anybody, which is kind of like being anti tide, or pro-snickers, it's just a preference, might have something to do with his touring with Donnie McClurkin. Someone who identifies himself as and 'ex-gay' and has stated that homosexuality is something that can be 'cured by God'. His (Obama's) goal in going out with Donnie was to... gain support from Donnie's fan base. Which isn't necessarily people who are the kindest to the homosexual community. All politicians suffer from 'you are who you hang with' syndrome. But in this case it damaged his credibility with some voters.

Also when I find that a thread is missing a key fact or the counterpoint, I insert it.

That is the beauty of online communities, a free hand in discourse. I would love to hear more about what you think about the republican possibilities 7691, about all three of them.

Insert what you think is missing, add more of your opinion. My only request is that if you would like to disparage a candidate, which is not illegal in this country, learn from the above posts. I would greatly appreciate the use of insults from the current slang dictionary, include british if you like. Who doesn't like a good chav/slag comment now and again...

Also please reference the site and spell correctly. It helps those of us who are savvy enough not to need the spell check to feel as though all comments made are serious ones. Include acronyms if you like, you now have an audience who is listening. What should they know?

    I have to agree, putting

I have to agree, putting Donnie McClurkin on his "Faith Tour" (or whatever it was called) was not the best choice on Obama's part. However, the thing about politics is any politician has to appeal to the widest audience possible, and the LGBT voters are not a huge group, so that is probably not a group of people Obama has in mind, when planning how is campaing is run. I'm not saying it's good, that's just how it is. And if you look where he and Clinton actually stand on gay rights issues, the'yre virtually the same: both oppose Don't Ask Don't Tell, both support civil unions with equal benefits as marraige, both support EDNA, both support the Matthew Shephard Act (I'm pretty sure), so I think that is what matters the most. That being said, since the two candidates are so similar, picking Clinton over Obama because of the Donnie McClurkin issue is probably just as legit as any other reason of picking one over the other. Even with all that though.... I still support Obama.

As with Republicans, well we all new Ron Paul would never get anywhere. But this blog could discuss, for example, how he was able to build such a strong grassroots and interent support base, and why returing the governemnt to the way it was originally meant to be really is such a radical idea. Mike Huckabee definately has a strong and hardcore group of supporters who share his beliefs, but he's isolated the rest of the voters because he's just way too extreme. John McCain has become the overwhlemingly popular Republican candidate, and this blog could discuss how he was able to do that when he was virtually bankrupt last summer, and why it is that the Republican who's been deemed "too liberal" by so many conservatives is the one in the lead. I know that none of those things are related to gay issues, and that this blog is aimed at gay voters, but like Latino voters are not only concerned with immigration issues, and black voters are not only concerned with affrimative action, etc type issues, I'd hope that most gay voters care about issues beyond gay rights. It makes sense of course that most gay people would put that near the top of their priority list, but one can't only care about and fight for whether two men or two women can get married, and then ignore the ever-decreasing value of the American dollar, or the billions of dollars wasted on the war.

I got a little off topic, but to sum it all up, I think this blog should give a more balanced view of all the candidates involved in this race, and not become the Hillary 08 video campaign.

So, Obama's #1 Fan -- It seems you are out of touch with what AfterEllen is and what we're about. Actually, nevermind, anyone who respects women would not say things like that.

FOR HILLARY! Obama is like a car-sales man.

I'm only 21 and I believe I know more about politics than some of these fourty-year olds and that's horrible. Enough of a reason NOT to vote for Obama is he's only have 3 years in a political office. Compared to Hillary who's had 33 years experience. Just because Opra is indorsing Obama does not mean that every liberal, "he likes gay marriage," individual needs to be brought in by his tacktics. He in no way inspires me than the next person. In fact, Hillary is a no bull shit kinda lady, she wants to get it done. And Obama is a slick, smooth talker almost reminding me of a car salesman with a good sales pitch. I don't trust car salesmen and I don't trust Obama. The duties of the next president should be left to Hilary, she's most qualified candidate, she's been tested and she's still standing.

    Well.

    Um.

I think your metrics are a little off...okay...a lot off.

If you're talking about public service, you're wrong on Obama (25) and Clinton (35).*

If you're talking about elected political office, you're wrong on Obama (12) and Clinton (8).

If you're talking about US Senate experience, you're wrong on Obama (4) and Clinton (8).

If you're going to claim that you know more about politics than anyone else, you should probably quote the numbers accurately.

    * Note: It's also worth recognizing that Clinton's 14 years older than Obama.

Don't fall for the race/gender trap

I don't have the detailed knowledge pecola has (btw, how are you doing this? skimming political websites all day?), but if I had a vote in this election I would vote for Obama. This does not mean that I dislike Hillary, as I already stated earlier, I think they are both good candidates, and both of them would make a good president. And yes, I, too, am very angry about the sexist slurs that have been thrown at Hillary lately. But don't forget the racist slurs thrown at Barrack not long ago. After all I read about both of them and after hearing them speak in several debates, here are the reasons why I think Obama is the slightly better candidate:

    • Obama is a bit less of an opportunist than Clinton. Maybe because he has not been exposed to Washington style politics as long as she has. Don't get me wrong, all politicians are opportunists, they have to be, but the grade of opportunism is important.
    • He is a bit less intermingled with special interest.
    • When talking about how to solve the problems at hand, he gives the slightly better answers.
    • He seems more authentic to me.

It's not about the question wether the black man or the woman is the better choice, it's about the question which person is better suited to get the US back on track. And for the experience issue: knowledge, wisdom, insight, intelligence and determination are no function of age. Many old, "experienced" politicians out there are the best proof of that. And I don't think that Obama is a slick speaker. He often hesitates and even stutters when talking. But that is a good thing in this case. Since no one can deny the fact that he is intelligent, it simply shows that he thinks before he speaks.

Let me put it differently: Remember what Morpheus once said in The Matrix? "There is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path." Hillary knows the path, no doubt about that. But Barrack is the one who is walking the path.

P.S.: pecola, Rachel did not state she knows more about politics than anyone else. She said she knows more about it than many people out there double her age, because those people are ignorant. And although she got some of the facts wrong, I think her statement is still right.
