News, Reviews & Commentary on Lesbian and Bisexual women in Entertainment and the Media

The end of "Gilmore Girls?" I'm conflicted.

Looks like this season very well may be the last for The Gilmore Girls. TV Guide is reporting today that "talks to bring the show back for an eighth season have stalled, and, according to several sources, there's little hope for a turnaround."

I'm not sure how I feel about that. I used to love the show - the first season, and possibly the second, will always stand as some of the best television I've ever watched - but the last few seasons have kind of gone off the rails. I confess I don't even really tune in much anymore.

But I'm still going to miss those Gilmore Girls. I think partly it's that I just like the idea that a show like this exists. What other show focuses so closely and so well on mother-daughter relationships? Where else is CNN's Christiane Amanpour considered a big guest-star? Where else can you find so many attractive, intelligent, and yet still relatable women? And did I mention Lauren Graham? Yeah, that's enough of a reason to watch right there.

Somebody better give her another show soon!

    Love the show

I loved GG forever, but ones got to admit when there fave shows have run their course and its definatly the case for GG.  It's just too bad Lauren Graham never got that nomination she so deserved.  I'm ok with this being the last season, I'll fight for Veronica Mars!

*whimper* I hate to admit it...

But I think it is time for our favorite girls to retire the show.  I just hope they get to end it with a series finale and not just disappear with the end of the season.  They deserve a decent exit.  I have begun watching it again.  The past couple seasons I was an occassional watcher.  Luke and Lorelai can settle into her home; Rory and Logan can become editors that commute btw Stars Hollow and NYC.

I really just want Lauren back on screen somewhere.  I need a show with Amanda Peet, Sarah Paulson, and Lauren Graham.  PTB of pilot season, are you listening?  I'd be in heaven.

    Really bad news

For me it still is the best show on TV, where else can you find that kind of dialogue? I will miss Lorelai so much, I love the way she does everything, I wish I had her personality, irony, crazyness (I don't know if it is well written... my English is not that good)... And, Rory... sigh...without her I'll stop watching TV, I've had a crush on her for 4 years. This is really bad news to me. When I came out to my mom we used to fight a lot, and this show was the only thing keeping us close and making us work to solve our problems (today my mom and I are very good friends).

    Disappointing, But...

If this is the end, we deserve a tasteful exit, after so many years in Stars Hollow.

Um...that's not our show. Our show is clever and fun.

The Gilmore Girls has lost its spark this year due in large part to the network suits letting go of creator/writer Amy Sherman-Palladino. This season is like the ‘invasion of the body snatchers’ version of the show. Everything looks the same, but the tone is off. Did the suits think they could just kill our series while we were on vacation then replace it with a look-a-like they picked up at the local pet store? For shame!

There was this great interview with Amy Sherman-Palladino last year. She said she had envisioned how the Gilmore Girls would end since its conception and had been writing toward that end all along. We can blame the suits again for robbing fans of this perfect ending.

No tears for Lauren Graham. She will rock on to bigger and better things. You can count on it. And I’m really looking forward to Amy Sherman-Palladino’s next project.

1 more season needed to give a good ending!

So I know Gilmore this season has not been what it once was, but if this season is the last....  I feel like that's not enough time to bring the series to a nice/decent ending, you know?  I feel like it would all be too rushed.

One more season would give the writers enough time to bring everything together, and at LEAST give the series the great conclusion it deserves!
