Come With Me If You Want To Live: Episode 5

Jenn and Dee talk about the latest Sarah Connor Chronicles; respond to reader comments; reminisce about cartoon theme songs; and ask, when's the right time to ask a one-night stand to leave? (Their conclusion: 4am.)

And the slang word of the week is "read", as in "to read someone to a lonely nothing." Yeah, that was a new one for me, too.

    Wow, this is up early

Wow, this is up early today. Off to download.

Forgot to leave comments on the last vlog. I loved how you did the 3, 2, 1 countdown last week whenever you'd be going off topic. The discussion about that one student in class who puts up his hand right at dismissal was so funny. Reminded me of when I was in school.

Keep up the good work. I'll leave comments for this episode once my download is finished and I've had a chance to watch it. :D.

    MARTA...it'smarta!

Every Atlanta reference just makes my day. Thanks Jenn!

As far as the cartoons go, I loved the themes to Heathcliff, Gummi Bears, Inspector Gagdet, and Doug. And I loved David the Gnome, too. Did you ever read the book that it was based on? That was one of my faves as a kid.

Thank you both for another great vlog!

    Robot Intrigue

Great vlog, loved it this week.

I haven't watched this series yet cause I live in the UK, but I love to hear your rants and I loved the terminator films.

I was wondering about "robot intrigue" in the third movie. I felt that the Kristanna lovely Loken's robot seemed to be a bit too emotional for a robot. It seemed to like killing a little bit too much and that head tilt inquisitive thing she did was really annoying. SHE"S A ROBOT SHE DOESN"T HAVE EMOTIONS!! That's why Arnold S was so good in the role (the only role he's ever been good in) because his wooden acting really worked well.

However, saying that maybe the newer robot models can like learn and gain human qualities/ emotions because like Turk 2 they can become unpredictable and adaptable. Or maybe because they are are not longer in continuous contact with a central hub i.e. skynet (as it hasn't been invented yet) they are no longer under it's control they can become more of an individual and disrupt their programming. Maybe it's a bit of both.

Plus, in this series they seem to be leaving bits of robot everywhere. Do they want the government to get a head start on creating humanoid robots!

I am soooooooo geeky. Sometimes, I surprise myself.

You're takng me way back in the day...

Geez, when you said ducktails, tail spins, my goddess that's so old. I do remember some of those cartoons. I never really paid attention to the theme songs though. Since you went there remember Gem, Cabbage Patch kids, Garbage Pail kids, She-Ra. Don't forget School House Rock, not an actual cartoon show, but the theme song kicked butt. If you ladies are knocking on 30, I must be swimming in the  pool not quite needing a life boat.

Having a boo creep at 4 am. Hmmm Sorry I can't relate to that one.

On the SCC: I think Cameron will become more human; it is why she is curious about things. Nice ref of  her to the Small Wonder girl.  Small Wonder was one of my favorite 80s shows to watch on tv. There are similaritiesof acting  between C and the Small Wonder girl.

I know the "read" I hear mostly among Gay men.

"Do I have to dial 9 to call 911?"( This  quote was shared to me by a nurse who was talking about her then 14 year old  daughter who asked her  this while the father was suffering a heat stroke)

    Can't answer

The 4:00 am question cause I Haven't had one but 4 seems fair cause that gives you 2-3 hours to sleep by yourself (think, or get ready) without worrying about this other person laying in your bed. Loved Doug and Arthur was, and still is, the bomb...read the books saw the show. I taught Pepper Anne was pretty kool (her little sister looked like a dude so straight off...gay and catchy theme song) Recess (would ccome straight from elementary and turn on the tv to watch Spinelli kick some arse, Gretchen being extremely smart and T.J being  slick p.s that marching band like theme song was catchy) Proud Family (One of the only getto shows in Disney) Power Puff girls (before it got canceled that theme song was all grr powa..Cartoon Network) Hey Arnold (sorry it's not Disney but he was damn cool)

I missed mondays Ep cause I came home from school and just passed out from too much mental activity/drama in effin school. Glad to have you guys recapping this episode or I would totally be lost and crying on mondays Ep (This show is that good...yes it's no buffy but it's a pretty good 5 year later replacement).

Good job once again (been watching you gals every saturday before I go to work) Looking forward to next weeks Recap and more slang 101...Hopefully you'll be recapping until this show gets cancelled....2010 (hoping they keep going until their 4th season) ?  And just for the hell of it "do you or have you ever bop with it" or "Pon de River" and all those other dances that are taking over the hip hop world (Chicken noodle soup? Peanut Butter Jelly? Beang Ah? Drop?) or are you too cool for this?

    Richard T. Jones

You guys took me waayyyyy back this morning!!

First of all, thanks for putting Episode 5 up so quickly. :) I don't watch TSCC but was curious: how's Richard T. Jones on it? If you're not sure who that is, he plays James Ellison (I hope he returns to "Girlfriends", btw).

"Small Wonder"...Lol I remember Vicky the robot.

Fave cartoon theme song: "Darkwing Duck" all the way!

Thanks for "The L Word" blast. I love Dawn Denbo but Jenn you're right: she's not intimidating at all. One "screw face" from me and one of my girls and Dawn Denbo would be half way back to South Beach. Trust! *snicker*

Oh ladies, you're NOT old at all!  It breaks my heart but I could be your mom!  But heck I feel young in heart and mind!

As for cartoons....the ones from my era had some good theme songs:

    Flintstones

    Huckleberry Hound

Loved 'The Smurfs' regardless of their theme

    The Jetsons, another good show

Rocky and Bullwinkle  (Moose and Squirrel dahlink)

    lol 'Read"  Good one!!

    Another awesome...

Thanks for the puppy props.  Cooter (the bluetick coonhound) and Rory (terrier mix) are so excited!!

Cooter's name brings up a gay slang question for me:
I love her so much I named her after one of my favourite things (hell - my most favourite thing).  To people not "in the know" I say she was named after the mechanic on Dukes of Hazzard.  Long question short - any chance we can get some "diamonds at the meeting of my thighs" slang?  Thanks!!
Keep up the amazing vlog ladies!

I just love you two. My cartoon was Scooby Doo. Still love that theme song. I have heard of "read". So maybe I am not so old, that I am out of touch. lol. Three or four in the mornng, is a good time to leave. Unless you are really in to them. ;-)

    80's love...

You forgot the line, "I won't bring metal down on the Connors". Chrome Artie snapping to attack mode with the vibrating cell phone was great.

Summer Glau's perfect acting mimicking Jordon freaking out, then going back to emotionless face like a light switch. *swoon*

Love the Small Wonder love! What was with the Raggity Anne outfit?

I watched Ducktales, Rescue Ranger, Darkwing Duck, Gummi Bears, and David the Gnome all the time. Good call on the great Disney theme songs. I use to know all the songs by heart, but my memory of them have wained a bit.

"I am the terror that flaps in the night. I am the cereal that get soggy in milk... I am Darkwing Duck!"

"Bad jokes are us, ur me."

    Loved the Vlog

Loved the Vlog ladies!! You brought back so many good memories with the cartoons I have to say Darkwing Duck and Chip -N- Dale were some of my favorite theme song. And eventhough its corny you gotta love the captain planet song, sure no real orchestra arraingments but who didn't sing along?

    I've definitely heard "Read" before.

Oh Jenn I loved the Jodeci "Ooo - Yeah" lol

The cartoons I watched, and it seems as though I am around the same age as you two, were very similar. I loved Duck Tales...Woo-Hoo! Chip and Dales Rescue, Inspector Gadget, Chilli Willie, Popeye, Fat Albert, Gi Joe, Captin Planet, Ninja Turtles, Wile Coyote and Roadrunner (was that the name of the show?) There were tons more too.

    Loved this weeks vlog.

    Puzzle Place

I remember the puzzle place.  I use to watch it and Barney in the mornings with my little brother.  My favorite cartoons are Captain Planet, Talespin, DuckTales, Gummi Bears, Care Bears, and Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers.    I teach Kindergarten and sometimes we watch Chip and Dale or Talespin when I'm testing the students individually.  My students are always surprised when I know things about the tv shows they watch.   I love you vblogs.  You ladies are great.

    Puzzle Place!!!

I watched Puzzle Place every Saturday on PBS. My dad used to call me Skye after one of the characters. I still watch Chip N Dales Adventures, Darkwing Duck, Duck Tales, and Tale Spin. I couldn't stand Doug though.

    Great vlog

    Great vlog ladies!

I'm kinda young but i totally remember

    what you're talking about!

Puzzle place was my favorite and it's

    like noone remembers it now.

Ducktails was my favorite theme song.

And i'm pretty sure my first crush was Luna the clown

    from The Big Comfy Couch.

    p.s

Everyone should basically just go out and watch Paris is Burning.

Thanks for the slang and the HIGHlarious vlog :]

darn yall for making me laugh.

I have the mutant mega flu so I have been trying not too laugh all thru your vlog. I didn't make it thru. I was coughin so I had to watch it twice.

    These are my random comments:

I try not to shop at bootleg.com but they have good stuff.

I love all the 80's cartoons. I was talking about them when Alvin and chipmunk movie came out. Ya'll are right. They had some of the best theme music and just was good period.

I kind of remember puzzle place but I loved me some Aruthur and PBS. I dont remember Small Wounder but I remember The Littles.

I am totaly with ya'll on Ms. Conner's outfit goin into the jail. I was drooling.

Jenn I am with you on the getting on crack. If Amy Winehouse and Whitney can get several grammy's and make millions of dollars and just have to do rehab and do no real jail time I am all with that.

For my last thought...I was thinking the same thing when Brian Austin bumped into Sarah in the hallway. I thought he was robbing her. Then I thought that I am getto as hell.

Dont stop doing the vlogs, ya'll are too good now you cant quit. EVER!!

Oh, I kind of thought ya'll were around my age cause ya'll make too many PBS and 80 references too well too be younger.

    Ch-Ch-Chip and Dale,

Rescue Rangers!  Great theme song!  I completely agree that Disney was rocking the 80s and early 90s.  Loved Duck Tales and Tales Spin.  I didn't really like Dark Wing Duck but the theme song was cool.  Another to add was Tiny Toons and Animaniacs.  Gotta love Pinky and the Brain, "What are we gonna do tonight Brain? Same thing we do every night Pinky....TRY TO TAKEOVER THE WORLD!"

As for your L word thoughts, yeah, I am a 6'1 jock, so I would really laugh very hard at Dawn Denbo and her "It's On" comments.

And last but not least, I think you two are great!  Keep up the good work.  I love your girls, Jenn!  Black cats have a special place in my heart.  I even have a black panther tattoo, partly because of my childhood black cat.

    Post-Show Hi-jinks!

Thanks for the last ten minutes of nonsensicalness. My girlfriend and I BUSTED out laughing when Jenn said "Got our work out of the way early". Hilarious.

Maybe I'm just projecting, but it looks like you guys are getting bored with the show. I for one am definitely tired of the nonsense and million terminators and all that. I still haven't gotten over the fact that Cromartie's busted head went forward in time or that people are time travelling all over the damn place. What is this, an episode of Quantum Leap? The show is not very tight storywise, I think it's because of the writer's strike and how the creator and showrunner of SCC was completely "pencils down" for most of the episodes we've seen. It's kind of a nonsensical mess. BSG, this ain't. At this point, it's not even The Incredible Hulk.

And as an aside - Dee, don't ever change! Love that you wave the nerd flag loud and proud. Computer beating chess champion? Awesome.

    Great Vlog

Man, I'm starting to think that Cameron's kinda evil =(. But I love her, she's so entertaining to watch.

OH! and I remember SMALL WONDERS AND the PUZZLE PLACE! Sucks that puzzle place isn't on anymore...I thought it was a cute show haha. It's funny how all the kids were paired up (sky with julie, jodie with ben, kiki and leon...well that's just what it looked like to me haha and I love the cat and dog). I was also upset that arthur had a voice change...so I stopped watching that. Ok I should stop.

    You girls were great!

    The Wuzzles

    "I call shotgun."

    "I call 9mm."

I covet Cameron's boots. But honestly, after watching Sarah do those pull-ups I totally spaced on the plot...

Man, the memories... I remember the day my parents got cable television. The first show I ever watched on cable was Dumbo's Circus (...flying out of the sky! You'll never see another show like this!) I used to have to fight my sister to be able to watch David the Gnome. Now I just have a vague memory of hundreds of rabbits trapped on a flooding island... And The Wuzzles? (Two times the fun, wrapped up and rolled into one!) Just how many drugs were the writers on? Fraggle Rock was like The Muppets on acid. (Dance your cares away! *clap clap* Worries for another day! Let the music play! *clap clap* Down in Fraggle Rock!) The most bizarre show of all has to be Today's Special. None of my friends remember it. (Or else they won't own up to watching it.) It was about a department store mannequin that came to life when his magic hat was put on him. Damn it. Now I'm going to spend the rest of the day singing the theme to Pinwheel. (Pinwheel, pinwheel, spinning around! Look at my pinwheel and see what I've found.)

And this is my cat. She almost knocked my computer screen over during Lady's closeup...

    Looney Tunes!!

Those were some of my favorites too.  oh heck, I love all of the Bugs Bunny library.  As for theme songs that are permanently stuck in my head, I would list the Speed Racer song, and the intro song to the "Little Rascals" (not technically a cartoon, but a staple of the afterschool airwaves when I was a wee bean).

    Jinx?

Right after you guys mentioned Darkwing Duck, David the Gnome, and asked us to submit our favs, I literally grabbed a pen and wrote down Rescue Rangers and Tail Spin right as you went on to name those. Amazing. Another one that randomly pops in my head, even though I didn't actually watch the cartoon much, is the theme from Captain Planet, haha. Anyway, as always great vlog :)

Also, glad to hear you'll meet up with the rest of the AE Team at Dinah! It'll be hilarious to hear the reactions from the judges table.

As always, I must say I love the vlog.

Dee, you mentioned that you didn't understand why Dixon’s fiancé reacted the way she did, but is said that if Sara is still alive then she would be considered a dangerous person and wanted by the FBI. Remember, to anyone else Sara was an unstable woman who blew up a bank with her son and a teenage girl in it. If you were the fiancé and the FBI is questioning if you are harboring a fugitive like that I think you would be upset. Especially if your fiancé knew she was still alive and didn't tell you about it.

I am a child of the eighties, with 30 coming right around the corner so I remember small wonder and all the cartoons you mentioned. I am also a proud math geek (ramblin wreck, from Ga Tech, a helluva engineer) so I loved the show square 1 that aired on PBS. Does anyone remember it? Now as for my favorite cartoon theme songs I have several. Inspector gadget, tiny Toon adventures, Muppet babies and of course Thunder cats. I was always Chetara (I guess that's how you spell her name.) But my all time favorite was Fraggle Rock.

Jenn, I luv the fact that you always rep ATL. I myself am a Crawford Long baby and went to Fulton Co. schools. I would say the name of my high school but you probably never heard of it since I was bussed up to the north side and the school was lame. I grew up in College Park and would have gone to Banneker, since it was my home school. I lived right around the corner from Crefelo A. Dollar's church world changers. What high school did you attend?

I also generally use 5 am on a weekday and around 8 am on weekends. In general I prefer to sleep over at someone else's just so I can avoid having to kick someone out.

Wow, I can't believe I wrote so much. I can’t wait for the next vlog.

I have to say I can't believe no one has mentioned Captain Planet (he's a hero, gonna take pollution down to zero).
Besides the Disney cartoons (loved Goof Troop theme song with the scat at the end), I also used to watch James Bond, Jr., Bravestar, The Snorks, Bobby's World and Inspector Gadget and anything that came on USA's Cartoon Express.

    Aladdin

    Gullah Gullah Island

    Captain Planet

    Arthur

    Goof Troop

Pink Panther (no words but still one of the coolest tunes ever)

Well that's enough reminiscing for me. Catch ya next Vlog. Appreciate cha!

    Cartoons I watched over time

Which ones appeared at what time in my life gets muddles, but here are the ones I watched, or at least the ones I liked:

    X-Men

    Spider-Man

    Sam & Max

    Rugrats

Doug--interesting sidenote with Doug, we had a kid in track in high school named Doug.  He was very pale and so exhertion and embarassment could be seen quite easily.  One of the girls in track would therefore sing the Doug themesong as he rand by during practice and we would see his entire body go pink.

Duck Tales--a personal favorite song for my high school's powder puff cheerleaders

    Chip & Dale

    Looney Tunes--reruns, but so fun

    Muppet Babies

That's what I remember right now.  There are likely more, but the other one that does come to mind was definitely later and more of an anachronistic appreciation.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE STORY LINE?

Well i think that Cam is like facinated with the parts because she realizes thats what she is made of. she is trying to understand human emotions and understand if she is more than just a piece of metal. also, cam is thinking, since they are trying to stop the creation of All the terminators, if they do so how is she going to be made, so like (she thinks) they can make good terminators like her and no bad terminators like Chromarty

thats my theory...fell free to debate me

iam only 18 but i liked FRANKLIN AND UMMM THE BIG COMFY COUCH

    Slang reference

I wouldn't necessarily say that "read" is a gay slang reference but it is a term used by most African Americans gay or straight.  Keep up the good work ladies, and I hope to hear the upcoming album, lol, just don't do too much bootleggin' with the music cause yall might get read!!! ;-)

Childhood Cartoons and a Morally Ambiguous Terminator

    Childhood Cartoons

Okay, I STILL watch cartoons sometimes right now, my favorite being Kim Possible. (I actually have the Kim Possible soundtrack. I blame Christy Carlson Romano. I'm sorta obsessed w/ her.) Kim Possible's like a cartoon, kid-friendly, non-vampire slaying redhead Buffy. Her and Shego? Wow, cartoon characters should not have that much sexual tension between each other. I'm your basic, average girl, and I'm here to save the world, you can't stop me 'cuz I'm... Kim Possible.

Powepuff Girls has an okay theme song, too. They're sort of like the cartoon superhero version of Charlie's Angels. Fighting crime, trying to save the world, here they come just in time, the Powerpuff Girls. Powerpuffs save the day!

I loved Doug and The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, too. Also hmm... PB&J Otter (I still say "Oodelay-o" sometimes in public. Not a great habit.) Rocket Power. The Wild Thornberries. I didn't really watch as many cartoons as some kids did, so I can't really think of any others. Except CGI shows, and even then, only Jimmy Neutron (and I also have the Jimmy Neutron movie soundtrack.)

    Morally Ambiguous Terminator

I think Cameron was designed to emulate human emotions, and she's developed this habit of collecting things because she, like, appreciates the historic value of them or something. Like they're her origins, the closest thing she has to ancestry. Cameron is NOT an evil Terminator... I won't let it happen.

Actually, she'd probably be cuter evil... okay, I changed my mind, she's going to be the end of the Connors and the human race. And she'll wear red leather while she does it. There could perhaps be a whip involved. Yeehaw!
