SNL visited by Tina Fey, Sarah Palin, and "Suze Orman," but Amy Poehler steals the showRepublican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin earned some points tonight for being a good sport by making a cameo on Saturday Night Live, in which she mocked Tina Fey mocking her. Tina Fey scored some points for letting her show 30 Rock be mocked by Palin. And Amy Poehler ran away with the game with her Sarah Palin rap. Who lost points for this? Whoever wrote the skit, which seemed haphazardly assembled, not very funny, and a huge waste of an opportunity. Tina Fey and Sarah Palin in a skit together, and you can't wring more than a couple of laughs out of it? Really? Watch their skit below, or just skip to the next videoof Amy's rap... Great lyrics, great delivery, and the moose wandering through the set was inspired. (Jason Sudeikis's Todd Palin impersonation was pretty funny, too.) Also included in tonight's show was a spoof of The Suze Orman Show, in which Kristin Wiig poked fun at the financial advisor's heightened visibility lately (which Trish blogged about last week), and Suze's apparent inability to grasp the fact that hitting financial rock-bottom doesn't mean being forced to consolidate multiple checking accounts. ( I don't watch Suze's show, so someone who does, please enlighten us in the comments as to whether their imitation was accurate.) The skit randomly referenced Orman's sexuality a few times. In introducing the call-in segment of her show, Wiig said, "Like I say to my life partner when she's hogging our glow-in-the-dark constellations quilt that I got in from my favorite stores in the Phoenix Airport, Dreamcatchers Spirit of the Horse Wind, 'C'mon baby, lay it on me!' And after ending a call with a guy named Dick, she wrapped up her show with the comment, "I especially had a great time with Dick, and that's the first time I've ever said that." Funny, but not exactly original. Finally, since we're on the topic of politics, I want to throw in this funny new video starring 3Way's Cathy Shim asking Asian Pacific Islander Americans to vote. Or rather, not to vote. It's complicated. (It also stars Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon from Reno 911 as "The Man"). Yeah, what she said! (I love Cathy Shim.) Amy!! Suze!!
Suze's spoof was dead on, she says those things on her show.. 'lay it on me'. Her friendly aggression was dead on too.. haha.
How amazing is Amy Pohler?!!? How well does she move to be that pregnant?!? Doing the pregnant lady belly dance in a bar, knocking crap over. ;) thats entertainment!
Sarah Palin seemed pleasant . If she weren't in politics, I think I could like her. In a world where her world views didn't effect me, I think I could like her.
Now it's time for some fancy pageant walking...
Awesome!
Tegan and Sara on SNL
Tegan and Sara were portrayed during a skit!!
http://tinypic.com/usermedia.php?uo=Q1Hb9t4W%2FoYL3EKMP03W7Q%3D%3D
wait, what? how did i miss
it was in a skit near the
it was in a skit near the end of the show with bill hader and fred armisen. it was about a club in new york where different musicians perform. before armisen did his bit they showed picture of different other bands who had performed there...and they called them some kind of twins but it wasn't tegan and sara...i wish i could remember what they said, lol....but yeah that picture was the only thing they showed. it probably would have been funnier if they had done a tegan and sara spoof....because that skit was no kind of funny.
What Palin Can't Rap??
Palin gets props for a since of humor, but I would have loved to see her rap, lol! I was laughing so hard the whole time! Tina Fey: "The real one...bye!" Still voting of OBAMA!!
Cathy is looking so damn hot today, if I were a Pacific Islander American I would make sure not to vote : )
I'm only 97% gay....the other 3% is for the sexy trannies!! ====>GAY<====
Crouching Closet Hidden Lesbian!!
i agree
and i like sarah palin a bit more now. at least she's a good sport.
lame!
Palin is really good at doing what she did on this show: sit around and let someone else do the work.

Ha!
I agree...
It could have been so much better. But, whilst I loathe her something fierce (as I don't believe in hate), props to Gov. Palin for having the balls to take part in spoofing herself. While I'm not naive enough to believe that this wasn't a last ditch calculated effort by the GOP, that lady is still one smoking hot MILF. And, that fact frightens me. I want to give in to all those feelings of disdain but, every time I see her, I have one of two thoughts: 1, hot damn and, 2, Tina Fey would make an awesome VP. Either way, neither of which has anything to do with the forecoming election. And, if Karma has taught us anything, this will be one of the last times Ms. Fey has to protray that woman.
P.S. I know she's busy with her show and writing books and such but, why the devil isn't Tina Fey writing for SNL? Seth Meyers, not so much with the awesome.
Thank you, Sarah. I had actually forgotten about Palin's appearance on SNL tonight. I can always count on AE. Now, it's off to Brunch for me.

"But, whilst I loathe her
"But, whilst I loathe her something fierce (as I don't believe in hate)."
Just for the future...'loathe' and 'disdain' are just other words for hate. In fact, 'loathe' is usually used to mean extreme hate for something or someone.
Damn synonyms!
I see your point. But, they're not called 'Loathe Crimes' or 'Disdain Crimes'. The word "hate" is, I think, more universally understood as intense and associated with violence. So, I try to stay away from using the word and try my best not to give into the feeling. I can loathe a person just as much as I loathe a particular food item.

There's more to come.
Suze Orman parody
Great observations, Sarah!
I was curious about The Suze Orman Show, too, so I taped one and watched it. The impression seems spot-on, especially the way she ends the show: “People First, Then Money, Then Things.” Just like Palin, Suze seems to be a self-parody, but with Suze, the parody is intentional!
Tonight’s episode included advice on declaring bankruptcy and the important things to know when settling debts with collection agencies, so even if my sample size is waaaaaay too small to be statistically valid, I would say the “consolidate your accounts” bit is an exaggeration.
So funny
At the beginning I was disappointed with how little they did with Tina and Sarah together, but Amy's rap completely made up for it. I've already looked it up online to watch it again and hear what I missed because as soon as that moose got shot down I was laughing too hard to hear.
Props to Ms. Palin for being a good sport, even if she didn't say a whole lot. And mad props to you, Sarah Warn for posting this so fast! Now get some sleep :^)

Oh dear ...
Well
Damn
It's headlines
today on Germany's most popular newsportal SPIEGEL ONLINE
(http://www.spiegel.de/politik/ausland/0,1518,585007,00.html)
with the purport that Palin completely flopped and isn't blessed
with a sense of humour. It's interesting to read the somewhat different opinions here.
I completely agree with
I completely agree with SPIEGEL...
I love Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, and the spoof was very funny. But Palin is not funny or charming. She seemingly isn't good at anything, but shooting defenseless animals from a helicopter... I don't know what she was thinking!
Too sad to laugh
Although I agree that there were some Fey-Palin lost opportunities, it was still pretty funny, which worries me. Palin is charming and she knows it. By being a good sport on SNL, viewers warm up to her and forget her terrifying beliefs and complete lack of qualification.
Every time she showed up on the screen, I just couldn't laugh. I was too upset thinking, "No, YOU don't get to laugh at yourself and all the things that make me dread you being in the White House. YOU need to take seriously the fact that your values will ruin so many lives."
I'm just bummed about Prop 8 gaining support and the election in general :/
:)
very true...
I tried not to forget what she stands for.
Holy Alaskan terror, Batman!
Amy Poehler
Steals it all!
Sara Palin...meh.
Tina...rocks.
Cathy Shim...funny n hot.
Palin was a good sport
I thought for sure we'd get to see Palin doing Tina Fey.
Wait. That sounds really dirty. [snicker]
I'm sick that Amy is leaving SNL. She carries the show.
Kudos to Amy!
the woman can rap! And having Palin next to her while doing it must have made it even harder.
I have mixed feeling about Palin on the show... As mentionned she has been a good sport, so i hope people won't forget what she politically stands for, and not just think "she was fun and nice on that show"....
I'm actually glad Tina
I'm actually glad Tina didn't have to interact with Palin. It would've been uncomfortable to watch....Palin is just not funny. And, I thought Alec seemed a little off his game during his scene with her....the first sketch just didn't do it for me.....
But thanks so much for posting this, Sarah. I shut off the TV after the opener and missed Poehler. That was hilarious, she's so good. But, man it looks like she's about to burst....I wonder how many more shows she'll be able to do.
All About Amy
I agree with you, Sarah, on the opening sketch which, I think, missed an incredible opportunity. I laughed a couple of times, but it's certainly not something I'll rush to watch again (as I have with other SNL Palin sketches). I thought Fey's jokes during the press conference missed the mark and Alec Baldwin's part was poorly delivered.
The rap, though...oh, the rap...that was hilarious! I was in tears I was laughing so hard. Amy Poehler, ftw!
I didn't think Palin was that engaging during her appearances--didn't she train to be a newscaster? Why was her delivery so stilted? Hopefully this means the McCain campaign's charm offensive is over and we can get back to campaigning on the issues.

i totally agree. Seriously
i totally agree. Seriously Poehler brings on the LOLZ. She was so in character. Loved the gun shots bit and also the end when she goes "Yo I'm Palin, I'm out"!!!
OT: but how good is Adam Samberg's impression of Mark Wahlberg
wait...what??
that wasnt mark wahlberg?!
o.O damn
Why she gets any credit
It's amazing. Palin was doing this purely for political reasons. She wasn't being a good sport. She knew the potshots that were going to come here way. I guess I'm too involved in this election to give her a pass for putting up with the jokes and ridicule. I cannot give this woman a pat on the back when as a woman; my rights are threatened if McCain wins in a few weeks. I know this may seem a little negative but Palin does that to me especially when she says Obama pals around with terrorists when she is married to man that does the same (in the AIP). The hypocrisy astounds me and Palin does not get kudos from me just because she has a vagina. She does not act like a woman or respect women. Whatever though, it's just our future, right?
I agree. I don't think that
I agree that the opening was
I think we have underestimated her
These clips were very entertaining...and yes to see Palin sitting there and having fun with it all does portray her in a better light....but that scares me a little.
This was the best thing she could have done for her image. Does that qualify her? A sense of humour? Scary that some will say ..oh she's not so bad.....she thinks it's funny we all think she is a gun toteing bimbo!
well kudos for pulling one over Sarah Palin
i thought the opening was
i thought the opening was pretty funny...but only in the parts tina fey was in. "now i'm gonna entertain ya with some fancy pageant walkin'!"
they could have done a lot more with sarah palin, i thought. and WTF were they thinking not putting tina and sarah together for the skit!? the only time they shared a stage was when tina walked off to give sarah the podium. they definitely missed some comedy gold there.
however -- i don't think i have ever laughed as hard as i did during the rap. amy poehler, you are a saint. i had to go back and watch it this morning because i missed half of it last night where i was laughing so hard. genius. ALL THE PLUMBERS IN THE ROOM PULL YA PANTS UP! everything was amazing...the eskimos, the moose, the snow, todd...alright...i'm gonna go watch it again.
substance over image
Amy and Tina rocked, as always. Cathy Shim is awesome in that PSA. That said, although Palin appears to be a good sport, and a likeable sort, I think McCain sums it up best what she stands for in this short you-tube vid.

"Counterpoint to the liberal feminist agenda". 'Nuff said.
The "Suze Orman Show"
That impression was so dead-on that when I called my grandma to see if she saw Sarah Palin on SNL she said that she changed the channel because she thought that, "The Suze Orman Show was on". XD
BTW, that quick exchange between Fey and Palin was gold. Lol.
The funniest part for me
The funniest part for me was Amy's gun shooting during her rap.
especially the very last shoots she did. HAHAHAHH!!!! that had me laughing so hard. many rewinds and play!!
Oh Amy
GENIUS
amy rocked! er rapped!
amy rocked! er rapped! she certainly used the big belly to her advantage.. i thought sarah palin was funny too.. loved the maverick hands in the air..the todd palin LOL!
loved sarah movin to the beat..but i had the feeling if she stood up it would have been totally the "white man's overbite" dance!
the moose..FUNNY!
i thought tiny fey was the woman but Amy took it to a new level last night!
Amy P was the star!!!!! can i get a whoot whoot for Amy P???
Damn straight you can!
Um...pardon the pun....
WHOOT, WHOOT!
Amy Poehler could have a career...
Politics, Comedy..
Palin Rap
Poor Palin
Her attempt to prove she had a sense of humour was nothing but a nail in the coffin. She stood there awkwardly as Alec, also awkwardly, made cuts at her. The rap was HILARIOUS! I feel like the writers were saying "surely they won't let us get away with this" but they did! And then she just sits there dancing while they make fun of her? It didn't make her look like she had a sense of humour, it made her look like an idiot.
SNL/Cathy Shim's PSA
I thought the SNL open was pretty lame. Tina did the best with what she had, while Palin wasn't funny at all. It was funny to see her raise the roof while Amy Poehler rapped. The rap was the best part of the show by far. I haven't seen the Suze Orman show, so I don't really know how close it was, but while I watched it, I couldn't help but think of Olive Snook on Pushing Daisies. Weird, I know.
Cathy's PSA is friggin' funny. LOVES IT!
Skit showed Palin up
As a young Asian American Pacific Islander ..wait what?
