We're back in our regular groove this week, bringing you fun television highlights (and clips!) from the last few weeks from shows like 30 Rock, Blood Ties, and Moonlight.
And don't think we ignored Sarah Shahi's lesbian kiss on Life! We've bucketed this week's shows into categories in our vlog. Can you guess which category applies to which show, before you watch?
I'll give you one hint: Women's Murder Club gets "Most Improved" — we tell you why in the vlog, and show you a scene involving a lesbian character in a recent episode.
Also, Lori brings on the charts and graphs ... okay, one chart:
I suspect she created something like this about me when we first met, but I'm afraid to ask... Submitted by on December 7, 2007 - 5:53pm. |

Coraline, be still my heart.
Beth is cute, but she's obviously no competition for Coraline. I mean, the woman lived in a glass house (one that Mick admittedly wrecked by throwing a chair through her wall) and wore saucy red dresses. And engineered a foolproof plan to get Mick back replete with staged photos of death, visits to the morgue, references to shared songs, hidden tattoos, and best of all, a conveniently-placed photo album that still contains pictures of oddly-haired Mick circa the 1950s. (Though nothing explains away that shirt).
Why the woman wants Mick, I've yet to figure out.
Blondes et al
Lori, I'm with you one this one. Blondes.. definately... I'm a sucker for blondes. Dunno why... they just look better. Not that brunettes won't make my day, but there's something about blondes. Oh well... go figure. Strangely enough, I never had a blonde girlfriend. Isn't that weird? Not that there are that many blondes in Portugal, but just one would do the trick.
From Gia: "I don't think a woman's really a woman...unless she's a blonde."
*grin*
Lori, wanna take my mom to see Celine?
Because I'm not that good of a daughter! ;-)
Wow, I cut down on my television viewing and yet you managed to hit the highlights of the ones I stuck with!
With 'Moonlight' I got disappointed very quickly when I saw that Mick and Beth were getting romantic not even halfway into the 1st season. Now I am sorry I missed the eppie you showed a clip of. Coraline back in the 1950s and Coraline of today is mighty hot either way...but I am not so sure she is human. What about the eppie when she and Mick were in the cemetary and that other male vampire went after Mick...that other vampire seemed to have been there as a set up by Coraline.
But if Coraline is human and she dies...she would act as a romantic wedge between Mick and Beth even with her no longer being around. Mick would probably would turn away from Beth...at least for awhile.
Then with 'Blood Ties'...I really don't care who Vickie ends up with if it is not Goth Girl. lol
The other shows you highlighted simply rock. Nuff Said.
Lori, love the chart...once you explained it...lol...
And a meatball sub for two sounds like heaven to me. :-)
Great summary
I have to agree . The Life cliffhanger was very good. I was actually worried during the episode that he might actually hurt the guy. Shahi is so much better on Life than on the L word.
Sarah you said bloody. Have you been watching Buffy again?
Moonlight is my No. 2 new show. I don't really like Coraline but wow Beth staked her. I can't wait to see what happens. It's fascinating the way Mick is drawn to her. Usually i can predict what's going to happen on tv shows but i'm not sure if the're going to kill Coraline off, you both make good points. Edited to say: I really thought about this and i have come to a decision. Mick is going to turn Coraline into a vampire again to save her life and find out how she became human. Plus they can keep the love triangle going.
Blood Ties - I'm rooting for Henry over the detective but for some reason i don't really care too much about either of them. And i did notice that vicky was a bit more feminine and might i say less intense/argumentative ?
WMC- still can't watch it. don't like it, but liked Laura Harris in Dead Like Me
The return of the bunnies. yippie
I have noticed that 30 rock mentions the lesbians alot. I love that show.
I noticed the "bloody" too.
I noticed the "bloody" too. I'm glad I wasn't drinking because I snorted. At least it made me smile.

Most subversive, indeed.
Thanks for confirming my own scattered thoughts on 30 Rocks. I really can't remember when I last watched a network comedy show that constantly pokes at every sensitive subject. And it doesn't just poke blindly or in a plump, vulgar way. No, it is precise and extremly well written, and fun. Yes, I am absolutely in love, and perhaps a wee bit addicted, to this show.
Thanks for another great instalment of this VLOG, and Lori - I loved your t-shirt.

You must really love your mother, Lori...
As for Ms. Dion----
I can't stop laughing whenever I see her because all I can see is Kathy Griffin doing her impersonation!!!

..... Yeah Sarah Shahi's a good actor ....
BUT GOD, DO I MISS HER RUNNING AROUND IN VICTORIA SECRET UNDERWEAR AND SHOWING OFF HER OH SO FINE BODY .... sigh. Really Sarah was amazing to look at on the L Word. On Life she's always wearing too much clothing and doesn't smile much. I miss that smiling unclothed Sarah Shahi A LOT!
Thank the Baby Jesus
Bourbon spit almost was!
Yay to have you back, Lori & Sarah!
I agree!
Hey Sarah and Lori,Great vlog as always!
I totally agree with your assessment of Life and 30 Rock. I started watching Life because of Sarah Shashi and I don’t even like crime shows all that much as I object to so much murder and gratuitous violence on TV but somehow the show was able to pull me in and I think they were able to create a good storyline so far. I do like the fact that they try to bring other elements into the story as opposed to the regular violence and crime centerfold of these shows.
Regarding 30 Rock I honestly think Tina Fey is a comedy genius. This episode was indeed hilarious and the show keeps getting better and better.
I had decided not to watch Women’s Murder Club because you had said it was not that good but I might just start watching it now (ts ts, I really DO need time to get a life, you know?) :-)
All the best from your Portuguese fan
Hey, bunnies!
Oh, I love Life! And I was surprised we got some answers so soon. I was a little worried about that when I started watching, so I tried not to get too attached, just in case they decided to create more and more questions and provide no answers.
I don't really know how this works. Do they already have the idea for "what really happened" when they start writing it, or do they make it up as they go? What if they have to stretch it over more seasons than planned at first, how does that work? Either way, I hope they make sure it's believable and interesting enough. So far it's proving to be :D
Tina Fey is so cool. I wish we could get her to write for The L Word... maybe she could even pick a different theme song. I bet she has better taste in theme songs. Well, actually, even a trained hamster could pick a better song. But I digress.
Anyways, good to have you guys back, and hello bunnies! I missed them :D

hmm
maybe i shall check out Women's Murder Club after all.
And I LOVE Life. Fantastic show and so glad to hear it got renewed.
I'm glad ya'll are coming
one:
i agree wholeheartedly with your comment.
two: i frakkin' love your icon. zoe!!!
She Made Me Watch This, and I liked it.
Blood Ties! Life! 30 Rock! Women's Murder Club!
I love all of these shows, and I agree with your diagnoses. Y'all rock.
WMC has improved. And it's exciting. And tonight's episode was surprisingly good. You know, y'all aren't the only people who love Linds/Cindy. There's fanfiction galore. And you don't have too look to hard to find it. LOL. I love Laura Harris. I first noticed her in the almost horrendous The Faculty with Clea Duvall, Josh Hartnett, Jordana Brewster, and Famke Janssen (among others). But she's quite fab in every way. Especially in Dead Like Me.
I loved Shahi's response to the kiss in Life, and I find the characters fascinating.
30 Rock? Just total love.
And Blood Ties. Good old Blood Ties. God, I love Christina Cox. Could she be more delicious? I'm really hoping she'll just jump into bed with EVERYONE.
Brilliant as usual
Great Vlog, Ladies. Ya know, I don't watch a few of these shows, but now I have to try 'em out. I've been a 30 Rock/Tina Fey fan for a while, so it's always wonderful to see some clips from that show. This week's show was hysterical as well. When Jack invites Liz to a dinner party and says, 'Don't dress like a small town lesbian', I lost it. I think I actually gaffawed. But now I have other shows to look for, branching out, it's good for ya. Thanks for the entertainment once again!
Only Bar Chart?? Where is the Pie Chart??
Lori, you are a geek, in a total HOT way. I vote for Lori on the cover of Geek Magazine. Rock on.
Love that “Ninja Monkeys are Everywhere” T-shirt (I’m gonna assume that you wore that T-shirt was becasue I asked last time after watched you ladies’ Best Lesbian Moments Part I.) :D :D :D
30 Rock – totally Rock. Love Tina Fey.
Thanks for this week’s lesbian fix, Sarah & Lori. : )
I thought the same thing!!
"Lori, you are a geek, in a total HOT way. I vote for Lori on the cover of Geek Magazine. Rock on."
I now have a greater appreciation for charts, and .. well statistics. =)
Don't be a slave to the unavailable!Women's Murder Club
And on the OTHER hand regarding WMC...
I suspect a bit of HOMOPHOBIA on the part of someone involved with WMC...if even internalized. And here's why: I was watching the most recent episode noted above, and not only do I think the drag king was played by an actual man, BUT I am begining to think that the PILOT change was to make SURE the audience didn't think Ms. Harmon was maybe playing a lesbian. The show IS, afterall, set in San Francisco and focuses on FOUR WOMEN as the main characters (otherwise known as STRONG women...and STRONG = maybe lesbian). And other than Cindy, "the Grace to 10 Wills", they all started the broadcast season with a male partner (or recent ex-partner). This last episode conveniently disposed of 2 of them and the other is in a wheelchair, so they can NOW get on with focusing on the FOUR STRONG women characters. Had the producers STARTED the season without drawing out these OTHER "important" relationships with men, well then OMG, the audience might otherwise conclude that one or more of the women could be lesbians being in San Francisco and all. So let's just tinker a bit with the pilot and add some extra male DNA and while we're at it, we'll make sure the audience is REAL clear that these STRONG women are STILL heterosexual!
That said, I still like the show...
I suspect a bit of
I suspect a bit of HOMOPHOBIA on the part of someone involved with WMC
i really wouldn't doubt it!! angie harmon IS after all, republican AND extremely christian [catholic?] crazy. i'm pretty sure she wouldn't have taken the part if lindsay WAS supposed to be a lesbian. oh, but what do i know.
"Sometimes when i get homesick i hum the mr softee song"
Another great one
I do enjoy the week in review from both of you. Thanks for including Blood Ties in there too. The show I would also nominate for most improved and really hope that moving the finale two season episodes to online only isn't a sign we will never be freed from the cliffhanger of angst.
And not to give anything away - look for one of Sarah's favorite lesbian kisses JUST BECAUSE moments in the finale that posted online tonight on Lifetime.com. People shouldn't get to excited though - it sadly doesn't involve Vicki.
Keep up the great Video Blogs!
lori, you're great.
Charts!
Moonlight
I've only seen a few episodes and that was enough for me. Really Mick's ex comes back as human and is creating trouble in his life. Does that sound oddly familar. Oh yeah, ANGEL. I'm just sick of watchin the same thing over an over. But if i had to choose it would definetly be the brunette. Did you see her in 40 days and 40 nights
"I don't kiss girls who wear doilies"
Just some comments...
That's one great bar chart. I totally agree *geeky grin*
Celine Dion is my Least.Favourite.Artist.Ever. Ugh.
I wish we would get Moonlight and Blood Ties, they sound like great shows.
Btw How come this AE Player is worse than any other players?
Yes, staying in with some nice food and a great show on DVD sounds like my perfect night...
Blood Ties
Am I the only one who thinks the coroner has a thing for Vikki? Coreen needs to get over Henry and go after Vikki.

Wink!
Lori winking cracked me up.
Hot Legs!
The first thing I noticed was the picture of Celine behind you guys, knew it was her before you started talking about it :)
That's my homegirl right there and I love that woman and Lori, I agree the woman has gorgeous legs. Very hot. She was showing them legs off at the Dancing with the Stars finale, gorgeous :) Here's the link

Lori you're a good daughter for taking your mom to see celine in Vegas.
WMC + Bones = :)
Women's Murder Club + Bones + the little woman + no cooking what so ever = bliss. Could life get better than that?
Seems like I'll have to catch up on 30 Rock. I think I'm the only one not watching that show.
Great vlog! =)
really
you two are really making me watch a lot on TV (but that´s not a bad thing ;)
Lori love the chart and i will take my mom to see Celine Dion next summer on the world tour (I get well let´s say interesting reactions from friends WHY???)
Great vlog! thanks
"But we're never gonna survive unless, we get a little crazy"
Vive legs!!
Another great 'SMMWT".
Lori...good daughter, and I confess, I'm with your mom. I love Celine and got to see that Vegas show and it was a knockout. Gosh, someone who sings nice songs beautifully, you can understand the words, there's music to hear, it's not about nasty stuff . Of course, that's why everyone makes fun of her!
I started watching LIFE based on your recaps here and enjoy it so now hope they are going to repeat the shows while the strike was on so I can catch up.
I stuck with Women's Murder Club (basically cause I loved Angie) but i am enjoying the show. I loved Pattersons books so nice to see it doing well.
Keep up the great work and I agree, love to stay in and have a great night such as you described!
awww!
You Said It...
celine!
Huge Moonlight fan here!
Am I the only anti-Coraline here?
I actually bought into the whole MickBeth thing, and Coraline seems like a plot devise more than anything else.
And I'm with Lori - I would go for Beth!
Here's what Coraline will do...
I'm a big fan of "Moonlight", and I think Mick will have to bite Coraline and make her a vampire again, because it is the only way to save her life. Then, once she is a vampire again, she will tell Mick how to reverse it and become a human, then he will end up with Beth. Convoluted? Yes, but I think that is what will happen.
If you like Laura Harris on "Women's Murder Club", you will like her even better on Showtime's "Dead Like Me", where she played one of the Grim Reapers. That was a cool show.
Moonlight
Thoughts
My mom's been not so subtlely dropping hints that she wants to check out one of Celine's shows in Vegas for a few years now. Maybe I'll just send her along with Lori and her mom, so I can avoid the whole mess.
I admit to being one of the few here who hasn't been watching 30 Rock regularly because it's on at the same time as Ugly Betty. I've got several episodes stored on my Tivo though and they'll be the first thing I tap into once the toll of the writers' strikes starts to be felt. I did, however, see the "Cougars" episode and I agree with your assessment...hilarious.
I'm a huge, huge fan of Life and I loved the mid-season finale. I can't be the only one who thought that Jack Reese was going to take a swan dive off the side of the building right in front of his daughter, can I?
Women's Murder Club is improving slowly. The latest episode was good and it definitely built more on the sisterly relationship budding between Lindsay and Cindy.
30 Rock
This show has made me do something I have never done before. I actually bought the Season 1 set for a current tv show. Usually I can't see the point of buying a show so soon but this show is extraordinary! Tina is , of course, a wonder but the cast is so top notch. Alec is not a revalation because I have always thought he was a great actor, be it a comic or dramatic role. If you ever saw him on Knots Landing all those years ago, you know what I mean.
But Tracy Morgan just has to show up and he tickles the funny bone. And the Kenneth character is a gem. All praise goes to Tina Fey as she is truly one of the most extremely talented writers around. Can't wait for S2!

WMC
Great vlog, as always. I've stayed away from WMC since you both said it was terrible. Now it looks like I may need to start watching it. Maybe they'll rerun the episodes if the writers strike continues. Thanks for letting us know it's improving. Although, I already watch too much tv so maybe that's not such a good thing!
Move Over Celine, It's Bette's Turn!!!
Lori,
Now that your "good daughter" duties are over, why not grab yourself two tickets (for you and Sarah, this time!) to Bette Midler's new show at Caesar's Palace. (For all you "Vegas Virgins" out there, Bette is taking over where Celine left off in early 2008). Bette Midler is FUNNY HOT (and her legs aren't bad either), so her show in Vegas is bound to be like watching the Diva herself on STEROIDS. My partner and I are planning to go next spring, and I CAN'T WAIT. Vegas just keeps getting better and better!!!
P.S. No, Sarah did NOT pay me to post this!
yay
Life was off the hook and thank god for that....its one of the new shows I liked this season.
moonlight...drool.
blood ties: here's your updated adult Buffy drama.
women's murder club: one of the shows that started bad and got better...yay oh and the Lindsay and Cindy relationship on the show equals lots of fem-slash fan fiction.
the closer: awesome..
30 rock: rocks..that's all you need to know.
Thank you Baby Jesus
