This week, we review new shows like True Blood (HBO), Privileged (The CW) and Fringe (Fox), the season premiere of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (Fox), and the last few episodes of The Closer (TNT), leading up to tonight's cliff-hanger season finale.

But first, we rave about how much we loved Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on SNL, and Lori reveals whether she, too, could see Russia from her house in Alaska!

FIRST
True Blood.
I love True Blood. And I'm glad they didn't make it like another Buffy. This is one of the few new shows I'll be watching.
Excellent, as always
I don't listen when Palin speaks
Head out to the Praries.
BS! True Blood is ever so
BS! True Blood is ever so BUFFY it's the show that Buffy would had been if it went to Cable instead of UPN after season 5.
OH OH IT's like "interview with a vampire" in fact it is very much like Interview. Don't think of Buffy though I do and don't think of Blade think Interview and you too will love it!
OMG I cannot believe that you guys didn't like it? Too much striaght sex? Um...Buffy had too much straight sex well if you can consider sex with a vampire as straight sex?
I loved Privilege I like the character dynamics I loved the older sister one because she is very pretty and second till they hook her up with a boyfriend...well she might just be gay, I KNOW!!! But theres hope there in that character. Privilege is a good show give it a second try.
-Nathiest
the devil is in the details
I have a question:
Women's Murder Club! I LOVE that show and then it got cancelled and then it was back on ('cause the weak numbers didn't mean as much because of the writer strike or something like that, I think it was you two that said that) and then someone said that it was dropped again. Please enlighten me with your limitless knowledge and awesomeness.
I don't think I commented last week so I'll say this now; YAAAAY! SMMWT is back!
!
random comment:
I would never have started watching the sarah conner chronicles if not for this website. And I love it. Thanks guys.
Not TV related...
but got to agree about iTunes 8 & it's genius feature, LOVE it! Though I'm not too sure how you cope with just 600 songs, I have well over 12,000 songs on my iPod right now, with loads more albums still to go on! Genius playlists are all I do at the moment.
Great vlog anyway, even though here in the UK we aren't going to get these shows for months...
Love iTunes Genius
I couldn't cope with only 600 songs either! I only have half of your 12k songs, I actually meant 5,600 songs and still growing. Because of iTunes Genius, I'ved added even more tunes since we filmed the vlog.
-Life is a Venn diagram
thanks for the tip Lori!
Privacy Concerns
Just so you know, when you turn on Genius you're allowing iTunes to see all your activity in your account. This includes how many times you listen to a song, what playlists you already have, if your songs have DRM, and what you watch. It's like an all access pass.
It's a great way to discover new music (and purchase new music), but the price might be too costly in the long run. Just a thought.
Fringe
Apart from Bones, I haven't watched any of the shows you talked about, but you got me really excited about...
Fringe-Definitely a show I will enjoy
True Blood-I wasn't convinced before, but Sarah mentioning it was too dark made me think...yes, I have to see this...

I blog, therefore, I am

I'm watching it.
The end of last weeks episode was shocking. I will probably cry during tonights episode.
R.I.P. Quention
I was shocked by last weeks episode too! And to no surprise cried for about 1/3 of tonights episode :'(
P.s. Why can't any see Brooke's OBVIOUS plea for help?! Besides Deb...
~I WITNESSED the death of THE COOL~
I know
Exactly
Exactly and I feel like everyone's totally checked out on Brooke since like right before all that happened and suddenly Lucas is engaged to Peyton and he hasn't said hi to Brooke since Vegas lol
And R.I.P Quinton!:-(
And this new girl is gonna be trouble....o wait, she already is!!! Wonder what's gonna happen here...
Sara Q.: Hey girl wanna come over to my house? Cyndi Lauper got me a blender and I'm really good at making mojitos.

thanks for the mention
I'm going to keep watching True Blood and hope they tune down the mortal/vamp sex a bit. I really loved the part near the beginning of the second episode where you briefly glimpse an article reading "Angelina Jolie adopts vamp baby"
As for Bones, I totally agree that this weeks assistant was incredibly annoying. But I think I might enjoy new assistants every few episodes until they find one that fits. I miss Zack though. I almost wish it had been Sweets, but I'm really starting to enjoy his character.
Next week is going to be crazy.
(P.S. thanks for the mention)
firefly
great episode! re: firefly, sorry you couldn't get into it. i found it to be far more mature and intellectual than joss' other stuff (never a big buffy fan, sorry); wish it had continued!
:kali:
Amy Poehler..
Sarah and Lori great vlog as always. I just read that Amy is not returning to SNL after her maternity leave and that she is going to work on a new project with the Executive Producers from "The Office". Yay, for Sarah!
Lori, thanks for the "Fringe" review. I was curious, now I have to tune in.
As for "Bones", I, too, will grow tired of the assistant of the week, a la "Murphy Brown". You sense something is missing. I miss Zack! Although, I did like how Bones kept putting the assistant in her place.
Some friends of mine
Some friends of mine mentioned a show to me I had never heard of that was on the ABC Family network over the summer for 12 episodes called The Middleman. I immediately downloaded the pilot and was totally charmed by it so the other 11 episodes followed and when/if a DVD comes out I'll be there to buy it. The basic premise is a young woman who is a temp worker gets recruited by a secret agency to become a superhero sidekick. I would classify this one as a cross between The Tick and Alias. The female lead, Natalie Moralis, and her on screen roomie are both easy on the eyes as well. Good stuff I would recommend for a future review on She Made Me Watch This!
Middleman
So true! I came across it on the net by chance and was immediately hooked.
BTW, if you'll look closely in the episope with Dr. Gil and his hunting frenzy, you can see Marnie Alton for a few minutes.
Sarah Conner Chronicals
Lori
OK I'm going out on a limb about Camerons relationship with John. Sometimes I like to really take a wild guess. You know if the future doesn't change Sarah will die of cancer and I wonder if somehow Cameron isn't related to that because when Sarah belittles Cameron, Cameron always gives her this look and doesn't react. In the first season I kinda wondered if Camerson didn't have some of Sarah programed into her after Sarah died. Just a thought, nothing really to back it up but I do wonder why Cameron doesn't react to Sarah's put-downs.
I don't get the feeling that Cameron and John will get romantic but maybe that's because as a lesbian that wouldn't interest me much ... it's more John's ability to have deep friendships with Robots and mostly its Sarah and Camerons interaction that I find interesting.
Sarah's mission is to protect and prepare John and she is so intense with that she is at the brink of going over the edge, yet with all that intensity she is barely able to protect John and it drives her nuts. Cameron can protect him phyiscally in away that Sarah can just barely manage...but can Cameron manage the (human) subtlety of protecting him in other ways?
Sarah is losing her control over John as he matures and how much control does she have over Cameron...will Sarah let (teach) Cameron be John's friend in order to let Cameron protect him or will she try to thwart Camerons relationship with John at every step. Basicly its Sarah that has to figure Cameron out.
I like this show alot, its got women/robots with brains and muscles and a mission to save the world.
So will Dee and Jen review this show in Season 2, I must have missed the update on that. I sure hope so as I'd love to have a way to follow other peoples ideas on what's happening.
Wow, Lori, you must be a fuddy duddy.
Excellent - but that's expected
I enjoyed the vlog, as I always do. I had been on the fence about getting an iPod, but I think I've finally made a decision. Thanks for the info.
I do have to agree with eboshi12. I don't think the Palin accent is Canadian. Everyone I know sounds pretty like the Hillary character- we just finish off our sentences with "Eh".
With regards to Greys - yes, I'm sick to death of Izzy. I liked the character, but the whining that she did all of last season make me want to scream. But then, the writers also did a number on the Cristina character. Any word on whether she'll be back to her sarcastic, competitive self in the upcoming season?
A cat sees no good reason to obey another animal, even if it does stand on two legs.
I heard that Firefly in USA
I heard that Firefly in USA was sendt all out of order, and that was the reason so many people struggled with it. The network thought the pilot (which explains a lot of the stuff that later plays important roles in Firefly) was too smart for the viewers and didn't air it untill like 4 to 6 episodes later, which again made entire thing even more confusing. And I always thought of it as more of a pirate-space thing, than cowboy-space.
On to other things, loved the Terminator; TSCC season premiere, I was actually going "AWESOME!!" when the liquid metal terminator made herself known, that it was Shirley Manson was just icing on the cake. I think Bones is fantastic, and I loved this episode, but they should've picked an intern and resolved the whole Angela/Hodgins thing by now. I like Gossip Girl (it's like my guilty pleasure or something), and the new episodes are great. Just give me more of Blair being all superious and scheming and it's all good :)
And I am so gonna watch Fringe I just haven't gotten around to it yet
thank you Sarah and Lori
Thank you.!
Now I'm watching Life and Bones and all beacuse of what you said. ANd i'm going to watch Sarah Connor Chronicles. You make it sound interesting
That was what I wanted to thank you for.
Oh and what do you know about Pushing Daisies? I've been wondering if there is going to be a new season.
I can't wait for Grey's Anatomy to start. I want to see more of Erica and Callie.
BTW. Is it just me or Sarah looks hot in black? Well you look hot all the time because you're blond and blondes are the cutest ones
Fringe,etc...
I totally agree about Fringe. I am a huge Lost fan so I thought I would give it a try(I have to admit I loved "Pacey" in Dawsons Creek). It looks interesting...
Bones is one of my favorites. Listening to the verbal sparring between Bones and Booth is very entertaining. Despite the gory nature of the show, it is fun to watch.
I started watching The Sarah Connor Chronicles this summer in reruns. I too have to admit I gave it a shot after reading about it on here in various forums. I like it a lot.thanks
Great Vlog as usual. I am off to look into the iTunes 8 new feature.
http://pawsiblegaytails.blogspot.com/What show did Lori & Sarah mention...
What show did they mention toward the end? They talked about the first season being good, but not really liking the second. I replayed that part 5 times trying to hear. I really enjoy their comments. Because of them I started watching The Secret Life of an American Teenager, which I think is really good.
I am pretty sure...
what you are referring to is the show...Burn Notice.
And I have to agree...although I cannot quite put my finger on what the difference between the two seasons is...and where they went wrong with the 2nd season.
Maybe it was the hope of a relationship between Michael and Fiona.
But really, there seemed to be better relationships between all the characters in the first season. They even used Michael's brother more in season 1.
The one difference and improvement with this 2nd season is getting to understand the relationship between Michael and his mother a bit more.
I am surprised this show went from fresh to dull from season 1 to season 2...but they managed to pull it off, unfortunately.
Well, so did Army Wives...through neglecting the key ingredient in that show which made it different from every other hour drama...and that was the relationships and chemistry between the band of Army spouses. Separating them as they did...each to have their own story...sucked the energy out of the show.
I saw the Fringe and LOVED
I saw the Fringe and LOVED it, also liked how they did the comercial thing...its new and keeps me interested. also LOVE Bones but am i the only one who thinks that bones is wearing wayyy too much makeup?? it was almost sad... but still love the chemistry and as for the angela thing maybe they are both in denial, but i'm sure they will have a confrontation soon.
ANTM i'm impressed with this season, just because there is no one particularly dumb (besides hannah and potentially clark) and all of them are interesting. LOVE the little french girl and I hope they don't change her pixie cut too much.
Looking forward to SVU, although they started to go downhill a bit last season and i hope they redeem themselves this year. Going to try Pushing Daisies again, it was fun and cute if anything. I also used to be a die hard Grey's fan but besides erica/hahn they need to find some new story lines, i was just starting to loose interest.
always love hearing your guys opinions on the shows, so thanks!!

Fringe
is definitely my new favorite show. But also, I read an interview with JJ Abrams and he said that the Fringe episodes will be able to be viewed episodically or if people what to, they can dive deeper and watch for the methodology behind it. So hopefully the show will catch on because I absolutely love it. I can also see some Bones like similarities between Olivia and Peter. Sooo good.
I don't really see the Blake Lively in Anna Torv but the first thing that came to my mind when I saw her was that she looks like she could be Cate Blanchett's sister. They're both Australian too so maybe that has to do with something.
House & Thirteen.
Just watched the season finale of The Closer and I give it a thumbs up in doing something a bit different then they have in past seasons with leaving us with a cliffhanger.
But this week, I am looking forward to the season premier of House Tuesday night...and from what the previews show...(though it might not be in the first show)...some lovin for Thirteen. It will also be interesting to see where this character goes considering the news she got about her genetic condition at the end of last season.
Minor Spoiler: Hope for 13
The genetic test for Huntington's is not 100% accurate because the test actually looks for a genetic marker that is associated with the defective gene. So there is still a 5%, I think, chance she does not have the disease. Also the symptoms do not present until middle age, generally. We will not see Thirteen suffer.
Sorry, a science geek moment
Thanks for the info!
And in regards to Huntington's and what Thirteen might go through now that she has this news...I wasn't thinking about her physical health...as much as I am wondering how she might change her outlook and perspective with the test results back.
Kind of like how getting the news that a person is terminal can change a person's priorities.
It would also be interesting to see if the 5% is mentioned at all.
John/Cameron
I tend to think there was something going on between FutureJohn and Cameron. In the "flashfowards" of the future, John is very much a loner figure. Derek mentions that the only person John keeps around him is Kyle. When Derek finally goes to see John, it isn't John he sees or any other human, it's Cameron who checks him over and has the first words with him. Now, if FutureJohn was actively reprogramming the terminators, you'd think he'd have more around him. Instead, he has one beautiful "female". For a man who's future (and past) are uncertain, I imagine it'd be hard to have a relationship with a woman. Cameron not only provides protection, but a constant, steady companionship. And again, she's gorgeous.
Movie question
I'm just wondering if anyone knows the name of the song that is used on the trailer (and in the movie) of Girl Play?? I know it's Sara Bareilles - they used three of her songs, plus she makes a small cameo -, but I can't find the name of it.
I know it's not Gravity or Undertow. Anyone know what the third song may have been?
A cat sees no good reason to obey another animal, even if it does stand on two legs.
Hmmm...
I finally watched the movie again and here are the Sara Bareilles' songs featured.
1) Fairytale is the opening credits
2) Undertow is played live by Sara while Robin and Lacey are becoming affection in the bar after the premier of their play.
3) Gravity is played in the very last scene where the girls start hugging and dancing.
Also, the L.P.'s song Nowhere is featured both in the trailer for the movie and in one of the scenes. It's the one where Robin collapses in the bathroom when she realizes she's madly in love with Lacey but doesn't know how to leave her girlfriend. The she has flashbacks of their interactions playing in her head.
Gosh I hope this helps.
"I hate people, they hate me. So doesn't that classify as a healthy, functioning relationship?"
Sara Bareilles and 'Girlplay'
Bravo girls, bravo!
Sarah and Lori, bravo on another astounding episode of SMMWT! I especially loved hearing my name role off of Lori’s lips! I can now die a happy lesbian! Oh and by the way, Sarah I don’t know if you were intentionally going for a low-key goth/punk thing but you looked good! Poor Lori, does she make you dance around the room to punk anthems off her iPod, as well as, watch teenager television? But seriously, thank you for answering my question! Lori I respect the fact that those shows aren’t your kind. I actually don’t enjoy overly graphic material either, I’m just fascinated with why people do the things they do.
I can’t wait until you two talk about the finale of The Closer. I for one thought they did a wonderful job! I had tears in my eyes at the end! You ladies also mentioned True Blood! I’ll admit, I’ve been holding my breath for two weeks, waiting to hear what you two thought about the show. I’m also a HUGE fan of vampire movies and television shows. Having said all that, this show was like watching a Blade style movie each week. The writers do a wonderful job at adding a unique spin on such a widely covered area, but this show is overly intense and dare I say a bit too low rent for me. Nevertheless, I will continue watching it because other members of my household are addicted.
And I haven’t gotten caught up on Gossip Girl and I refuse to watch 90210 so I’m done! I can’t wait until the shows I actually do watch start up again! I’m praying that Grey’s doesn’t screw up the Callie/Erica thing.
Oh and ladies I do have another question for you. Have you ever considered reviewing shows from other countries with lesbian characters/couples in them? You two are already stretched thin, but perhaps there might be another group of people that could research and review these shows for AE. Okay well thanks again ladies and as always, you are the best couple I don’t know!
"I hate people, they hate me. So doesn't that classify as a healthy, functioning relationship?"T:SCC
yayy for the SCC being back.
do you by any chance know how many episodes we will get this season and whether they are already done shooting? where did they shoot S2?
thanks a bunch, ladies ;)

Cameron/John
Can´t remeber which episode it was but as soon as I saw the interactions between those two I immediately thought that they were headed for a romantic relationship or something along those lines.
The way John started acting with Cameron kinda suggested that he was changing his perception of her.
Save Izzie!!!
Izzie sucks the life outta every scene! I would just like for them to perk her up. It seems like on every show the writers pick a character to continually crap on! (See, Pacey Whitter on Dawson's Creek, and Bette Porter on The L Word)
I do have a few questions:
Sara Q.: Hey girl wanna come over to my house? Cyndi Lauper got me a blender and I'm really good at making mojitos.

In Plain Sight
The season finale has already aired for that show.
The main character kicks ass and scoffs at shallow, codependent women all through the show. I wish I could find it for you on Hulu or the USA network website, but for some reason it's just not there. *Shrugs* You should definitely take a look if you get a chance, though. Very worth it.
yes!
I'm soooo tired of Izzy! I thought I was the only one:p But GA is the only show I'm really looking forward too. But there are a couple more, but most of them start next week. So, I watch none of the shows discussed today, except for The Closer, but I'm a little behind on America. But this was entertaining to watch as always! Thanks.

TSCC
I'm really excited about Cameron's character (for reasons beyond the obvious) and the whole Cameron/John dynamic (not for the obvious reason) so I've developed a couple of theories:
One was similar to what Nipomo was saying about future-John having programmed Cameron with elements of Sarah, since Sarah may still die young somewhere along the timeline. However as an off-shoot of that I thought perhaps future-John goes further and to save Sarah he really does make her into terminator-Sarah. Which explains why Cameron has been collecting those terminator materials, like the metal, the brain chip etc. I would find it really ironic if after fighting so hard to protect John from the machines, Sarah becomes one.
The other theory similarly suggests John becoming a terminator or cyborg in the future. Drawing on the points Ktbarnes made, about the flash-forwards of John being very isolated from the rest of the humans and only shown in shadow, and also because of his whole connection with the machines. I mean, he's pretty at-risk so chances are he'll be badly wounded at some point.
My last theory is that John turns out to be the one to build Skynet. So all of the time-travel, looping craziness is like a self-fulfilling prophecy - he's the leader of the resistence because oops, he kick-starts it all somehow. So given his tech-savvy and connection with the terminators he tries to divert the fate of the machines and thus the whole war, by somehow allowing the machines to evolve along more human lines, with emotions etc. So Cameron is the first link in that development.
Palin's accent
Yeah, I'm from Alaska and I have no idea what that is all about, although Fey nailed it. Hilarious!
If you don't mind my asking, Lori, where in Alaska did you live?
Anna Torv
Anna Torv (Fringe) played Alex on the BBC drama "Mistresses". A lesbian who married her girlfriend, all the while having an affair with their wedding coordinator, Jessica, played by Shelly Conn
http://www.afterellen.com/TV/2008/2/mistresses
And I can definitely see Cate Blanchett in her. Maybe there's something in that Australian air...
Lol
