With so many interesting new fall TV shows debuting now, Lori and I decided to structure our vlog a little differently moving forward. Rather than a lengthy review of each show, we're just going to hit the highlights of the week in TV and film, organized into the following categories:
Among the TV topics we cover this week are the premieres of Top Model, K-Ville, and Survivor: China; our love of Bones; the revamped Bionic Woman pilot; and Gossip Girl's lesbian moment that wasn't.
We also discuss Zoe Saldana in the new Star Trek movie, what's wrong with the trailer for the upcoming movie The Kingdom, and why Lori plans to see Resident Evil: Extinction (opening this weekend).
Plus, a special appearance by Sydney Bristow, and Lori gets in trouble for revealing how much I like the cheesy ballet movie Center Stage (2000). She Made Me Watch This! September 22, 2007 get embed code from dailymotion.com or watch this on Veoh.com Submitted by on September 22, 2007 - 11:09am. |

Just wondering...
Are there transcripts of these vblogs? I could swear I read that there were but I haven't seen them. I'm on dialup still and can't watch but they sound really fun and interesting.
And the day came when the risk it took to remain tight inside the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. - Nin
Always great
I adore you two, again such
I adore you two, again such a great She Made Me watch This vlog <3
I LOVE BONES! I love the entire cast but Emily Deschanel has my heart. I have this voice fetish and every time I hear her speak I get this tingle, and it makes me happy. I rarely root for heterosexual tv pairs but Bones and Booth have this insane chemistry that I just can't help myself but want them together.
It's going to be a crazy week with all the shows premiering, this is why I love fall so much lol
Great work as usual ;)
Finally I can stop clicking RELOAD
[cheesy, unidentifiable, European-esque accent] I love you guys! I LOVE YOU![/cuEa]
Sarah, have you ever noticed that you have very long legs?
Lori, you like Ali Larter! You really, really do! Yay! If I were in NYC, I would volunteer to accompany you to RE:E.
Vlog notes: Need more graphics and bunnies. :-D
My Sig
TIP: while != although
Honestly...
There is absolutely nothing like ranty Sarah. I love it :D You two are absolutely brilliant!
"Oh, look, it's Wonder Woman... will you marry me?" I think I just died laughing.
And yeah, we love Bones in this household as well. I'm afraid I'm asked to hand out my lesbo card right after the following statement, but yeah... I'll deal with it. Bones and Booth are like the hottest thing on tv. They have such chemistry. You could solve half of the world's energy problems with all the sparks those two generate. For serious. And I LOVE Emily Deschanel to little bits... but that's a story for some other time.
Excellent job, ladies :) BUT WHERE ARE THE BUNNIES?! Bring back the bunnies.
Uhura
I believe its Uhura. and i want my Jill Bennett t-shirt :)
Good show
LOL!
Ok, Sarah I have a confession to make: I never really thought that you were funny; wonderfully sarcastic, yes but not funny, well I just changed my mind 'cause I can't stop laughing at the stuff with the dolls. I swear when doll Sydney asked doll wonder woman to marry her......my mom had to shush me I was laughing so hard...that was great!!!!
Lori, when you said that doll sydney was mean....I swear you sounded almost sincere, that was hilarious!!!!
Anyway, if I can make it next saturday to the meet up, I'll be glad to meet you 2
U Guys Rock!! Love your
U Guys Rock!! Love your show..new changes are cool..on da real meh kinda miss da bunnies..Can't wait for da next show..Meh Gwan~RYE~Da TRINI w/da SMILE
great vlog- a couple
great vlog- a couple things
1) Alicia Witt has always been really interesting to watch-Did anyone else see the really dark lesbian murder movie she did really early in her career? It was really good and disturbing.
2) I am right there with you Sarah about a couple things-
a) Ali Larter was excellent in Drive Me Crazy. AND
b)Center Stage is a great fracking movie.
Wonder Woman is good, but..
It's a prop, not a toy!
That would be my new favourite Lori quote. Seriously, you guys crack me up.
I actually never watched Gilmor Girls, but I'm glad Lauren Graham has another show, because she's one of my favourite Ellen guests.
And thank you, I thought I was the only person who thought Pirates 2 sucked. I've never been so frustrated as I was when watching that movie. And how long was it? ...like 15 hours long... ugh.
I went to see Resident Evil
Lori's closet
sooooo...I was just wondering b4 I die....could I rummage thru Lori's closet??? I love, love, love your t-shirts!!! LOL!! You two seriously are the best and I'm still laughing at Lori at the beginning when she was admiring her t-shirt and the sydney/wonder woman proposal!! Love it!!
Let me also add...
No, I didn't see you playing with your dolls again.
I cheered at the proposal.
Heroes, Reaper, and Bones are go!
How could any body not love Emily Deschanel?
That was Ali Larter in DMC? I need to rewatch that.
"Bad jokes are us, ur me."
I *LOVE* this vlog!
I just *LOVE* this vlog! It's such a great inspiration and it really makes me feel *happy* to see you two ( two great and powerful lesbians) doing this vlog togheter! Although I haven't seen most of the shows that you're discussing (they don't air here in Norway..), I still look forward to see your vlog, every week! :) Keep up the good work, and I'd like to thank you very much for your *GREAT* contribution to the lesbian community! Greetings from Norway^^
I miss the states!!!
you guys make me miss the States a whole lot...with all these new shows coming up, it's too bad that I'm back in Mexico where I have to wait A LOT to watch the new shows....I must admit I can't wait for ANTM to start over here, but thanks to Dara, Jill and Karman I'll know what's happening...sort of...
Lori, I love the tshirts!!
Love the new format
Especially the McLaughlin style intro, the Best Lesbian Moment that Wasn't, and-- well-- everything else.
Also, having read the Jane Austen Book Club myself, I have to agree with Sarah. The book is a little... flat. Plus, I read it awhile ago, but at the time, I remember thinking that <spoiler> the lesbian character wasn't partnered with someone worthy of her. Austen threw in plenty of bittersweet stuff herself-- take, for instance, Charlotte in Pride and Prejudice (which is arguably Austen's fluffiest novel)-- so, in theory, it should be acceptable to see the bittersweet in a work which is attempting to reinvoke Austen. But I somehow still didn't like this particular narrative in the Book Club.
they aren't toys ... they're "action figures"
Drive Me Crazy!
"I would like to volunteer that I liked Ali Larter before liking Ali Larter was cool -- back when she was in Drive Me Crazy"
Me too! I loved Ali Larter in Drive Me Crazy! It was just on
ABC FamilyOxygen recently and I had to watch it for old time's sake. It used to be on ABC Family all the time. For anyone who wants to watch it -- Drive Me Crazy is on Oxygen tomorrow (Sunday) at four pm.
I love the vlog -- it gets better every week! The outtakes were HILARIOUS! I'm starting to think that vlogs and dolls were made for each other.
Love the T-shirt!
Do you actually read every comment? Seems like it:p Or did you hire someone by now to do it for you? Because I can't keep up! For some reason I never get picked for funny comments! Wonder what it is... Oh wait, I'm not funny, that's right! I think it's great that you sum up the best comments Sarah, really enjoy them. There are just so many funny people on AfterEllen!
Jeej! You kept the outtakes!
I think all
Really? I seem to remember
Really? I seem to remember she named three blog writers and three members. But I'm probably wrong then:p I'm too lazy to watch the vlog again.
Oh wait, I just read Sarah comment below \/. Haha!
Vlog stuff
Thanks to all of you for the nice comments! I'm relieved no one's made fun of my action figure outtakes yet. Lori convinced me to put those scenes in - I was just goofing around while waiting for Lori to finish setting up the lights -but I wasn't sure if they would be too dorky.
Anyway, here are a few answers to your questions:
The bunnies will definitely be back! We just forgot them this time. Seriously, I'm amazed we remembered to turn the camera on, we were so busy this week!
Yes, I do read most of the comments on the site, Hes, at least on the main site, not so much in the forum (THAT would take all day :)
Re: your comment, Angela, 3 of the comments we highlighted in our AfterEllen.com Soundbites section in this vlog episode were from our bloggers, and 2 were from readers. We hope to do more from readers next time.
KineticStillness, we don't have any transcripts of the vlogs available, unfortunately. Just not enough time/money to create them. Hopefully someday!
JJ, we're just superimposing images on our TV set after we shoot the video. It's not too hard to do, and a better video editor would probably make it look more sophisticated, but since I'm doing this on top of my day job, it's good enough!
Thanks for the Center Stage support, Mg23! :D)
Lori wants me to add that Battlestar Galactica action figures - including Cylon Six in her red dress - will be available in October; you can get them at toywiz.com. Don't ask me how she knows this, she clearly has too much free time.
Who Me?
Oh yeah, I'm definately not a blogger. When I heard my name I almost choked on my coffee and thought "Oh god, what'd I post?"
I can't make fun of anyone's action figures when I've got mine posed on my desk. My partner has STAR WARS action figures still in the packaging and I'm constantly tempted to rip them open and play with them. She'd kill me though.
Starbuck and a salon table
Battlestar action figures... There should totally be a segment in your vlog about Batllestar Gallactica if you ask me! I know, I know, Starbuck isn't gay. But still. You never know nowadays.
The new formula is great, but damn that salon table kept my mind occupied the whole 17 minutes. By the end I figured it out. It's a Noguchi! And this proves my theory; the only people who have decent salon tables are architects or lesbians.
More goofing.
The outtakes were hilarious, in all honesty they were my favourite part of the whole vlog! I would love to see more of that quirky sense of humour incorporated into the vlogs and less of the business end of things.
But otherwise, very sleek and well done as always. :D
Center Stage
OMG I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only lesbian who's watched Center Stage about three billion times too many. Sure, I'm not as obsessive as taking it with me to trips but I do own the DVD.
I love the new format of She Made Me Watch This. Fancy segment names, titles and post production effects and now props. You guys are getting mad fancy, but hey, you gotta do something to compete against Jill's cleavage shots, right? ;)
Gossip Girl had a very good pilot and I got drawn into that show as well, the two leading ladies are smokin' and definitely had great chemistry. Also, I think that the leading actress Blake Lively (Serena) is one of the most interesting new faces I've seen on television in a while ... plus, totally *swoon*. Also, I do think there's something more to why she left, not just her sleeping with her best friend's boyfriend. I'd like to think it was because she had a thing with the best friend before having a thing with the best friend's boyfriend, but that's just because I'm SO gay :D
Gooby
"I'd like to think it was because she had a thing with the best friend before having a thing with the best friend's boyfriend, but that's just because I'm SO gay"
WORD! That was totally what I was wishing for too =P
What? No more bunnies???
You guys were great as usual, but what happened to the Bunny Designation System? I really liked your bunny rating system.
I too am going to see "Resident Evil: Extinction" this weekend. I saw the first two "RE" movies, and Milla Jovovich definitely kicks ass!
In your outtakes, why didn't you have the Sydney Bristow doll kiss the Wonder Woman doll? "Alias" was a great show, I really miss it.
And, last but not least, I am very disappointed that "Cashmere Mafia", "Lost", and "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" are not premiering this week! Who wants to wait until November for these shows? Not me...
I'm missing the bunnies too
I cannot believe you
I cannot believe you mispronounced Uhura's name.
Also, I like this highlights format. Plus, a Sara rant is always welcome. I'm kind of okay with The Kingdom, though. It's an ensemble--well, led by Jamie Foxx. In the long U2-version of the trailer, I feel like she got about the same time as the other secondary players and that focus was clearly meant for Foxx and the actor playing his Saudi counterpart.
great vlog you guys
LORI- awesome t-shirt but funny line....wait a minute is the camera on?...
on to the shows....Kville I'm thinking both with it being a good example of the aftermath and a basic cop show set in N.O. ....Kid nation...scary one out house for 40 kids...AAAHHH...Survivor...don't care...Gossip girl- hot snobby Manhattan trust fund whining drunken baby's....and yes they should have kissed would have been way more interesting...ANTM- boring dumb models...the only reason I watch is for the We're getting nowhere gang...lap dancing....YAY...and that line from gia when referring her to being a model...GIA-- Why do I look stupid?....YES, YES THEY DO!!!
The kingdom-- at this point it just Jamie fox acting like "his shit don't stink"
Center stage was an AWESOME movie...I don't care what anyone else says....
Alicia witt..was amazing on Cybil and hopefully will be on Law and Oder:C I
Tina fey = after two beers those shoes would totally make-out with you at the part...LMFAO
Across the universe: I 2nd that thought
oh and on the outtakes...Green lantern, superman and wonder woman would totally kick sydney's butt!
I loved, loved, loved Gossip
I loved, loved, loved Gossip Girl it was a very nice surprise cuz I kinda hate this teeny drama crap but I love this show. For now.
-Nathiest
now i'm starting to miss TV
i liked the outtakes/the beginning too. it's always fun when people don't know you're filming them.
resident evil!!! soo excited. actually i don't watch it for the chicks, i watch it for the gore (violence is such a catharsis..), but...it's all the same.
Great vlog...
Another great vlog from you two.
I loved the beginning and I completely agree that Jill should be on the 2008 afterellen.com hot 100 list. She's got my vote.
Good to know that I'm not the only one who loves "Center Stage".
I'm looking forward to watching "Reaper" and of course, the season premiere of "The Office".
Funniness
CSI!
Yeah, CSI is the show I'm most desperate to see...I mean has the summer break been long enough yet?! Geez! I don't even live in the US but I...umm...use "other" means to watch the shows in the US that we get like 3 years late here...aaaah the internet, is there a more wonderous invention, I think not.
Oooh and the vlog rockz yet again...agree totally about teh Resident Evil film, I'm very intrigued as to how that will be.
Thoughts
Well, it looks like I'm going to have to work a little harder be funny so I can make it on the vlog. I'll try and bring the funny more in future comments because I've got a few points of disagreement with some of your reviews, which are decidedly unfunny.
I thought K-Ville was terrible. I wanted to like it, mainly because of the political issues that underscore the show's premise, but everything about it was just sloppy.
I mean, take Cole Hauser's storyline for instance--audiences are expected to believe that in two years his character (Trevor) escapes from prison during the flood, joins the Army, becomes a Special Forces Ranger, does a couple of tours in Afghanistan and then comes back to join an elite police unit in New Orleans (presumably after some police training). All in two years?! That's a little unbelievable...and I'm not even getting into the poorly edited action scenes or the endless number of New Orleans clichés in the show's premiere. It was just bad.
I'll give it another shot, if only because of Elise Neal and Tawny Cypress, but I hope they switch it up for future episodes.
Gossip Girls was...eh...I'm not a big fan. I wasn't as frustrated by it as K-Ville, but there were enough little things about the show that annoyed me (the martinis, for example) that I'm not sure if I'll watch again. It's a shame too because I think Blake Lively is great...I loved her with Alexis Bledel and America Ferrera in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
I was going to say the same thing...
♡ I LOVE EMILY DESCHANEL! ♡
Gossip Girl Lesbian Wish Come True
really? what leads up to
really? what leads up to their kiss and happened afterwards?
-Nathiest
Well
wow thats most
wow thats most interesting(?) Thanks for the info A.L.! :)
-Nathiest
hey, if you haven't seen the
hey, if you haven't seen the movie "Fun" with Alicia Witt (and Renee Humphrey), you should definitely check it out
http://imdb.com/title/tt0109855/
It's a really intense movie about 2 girls that kill an elderly woman just "for fun". The girls are suspected to be a couple in one scene and they are asked if they were lesbians, but this really isn't the main topic...
I 've seen the movie at least 15 times and i can highly recommend it.
The sound was TERRIBLE on this episode
I have moderate hearing loss but have never had a difficutl time hearing what you guys were saying until THIS EPISODE! The sound on this episode sounded really tinny and echoey and I had a hard time understanding what you guys were saying. From the filming of this episode, you guys did seem positioned further away from the camera. The room also seemed different and had an echo to it.
I don't know what you guys did for this episode, but I didn't hear about 50 percent of what you said. Please adjust ...
It's probably due to the
It's probably due to the fact that they seem to be located in a bit more spacious room in this episode and further away from the camera so the mic doesn't pic up their voices as much as the echoes. I didn't notice the sound quality at first but now that you mentioned it, I went back and took another look, it does have an echo and the voices don't come as clear as in previous episodes when they were sitting down closer to the camera.
You guys might want to like invest in some extra mics or sit down a bit closer to the camera... or in a smaller room with less echo.
Center stage obsession
I have a friend who used to get so obsessed about movies she liked she would play them non-stop for months. Whenever I would come over there would be the same movie playing in the background. Some nights if I was lucky I'd be able to convince her to at least turn the sound of. What I am saying is, as far as obsessions go it could be a lot worse...
Is it bad that I laughed
