She Got Me Pregnant: Episode 24

Dana and Helen of Mombian.com remind us of the long-lost parenting storyline on Jackie Warner's Work Out. They also commemorate tax week with a rant on their own filings, and on a more positive note, discuss various approaches to children's allowances and why they don't have any answers.

Plus: What were those weird pipes in their living room that you may have glimpsed in last week's vlog?

    Good points

Loved the hardware store musical instrument/hotwheel launch toy!  I found your discussion of financial education and allowances quite interesting. Should kids get paid for helping out around the house? Good question. My sister and I were expected to do chores to benefit the household but were given a weekly allowance with no strings attached.  And in high school back in the 70's we had a class (not Home Ec. surprise surprise!) that taught us how to open a bank account and write checks and such. I wonder if high schools still have these kind of classes.  Anyways, thanks for talking about this subject.

    Topics......

How do we deal with spiritual paths with our children? Should we bring them up how we were raised or expose them to many different religions?

What are the most important qualities to encourage in our children?

How can we let our children go? What makes the process easiest?

    My finnancial education story ahahahahaaahh!!!!!

My parents never gave us any money for the chores my sister and I did around the house. We were expected to do them because we all shared the same living space and that's that!!! Ahahahaaa!!! Love my mum...

They didn't give us a fixed amount per week either but rather gave us money in accordance to what they believed we would need. If we went to the cinema with friends they gave us the money for the tickets, cola and popcorn. And that's enough!!! Ahahaa!!

As we grew up they encouraged us to work for our neighbours babysitting or giving personal classes to the children in our building, to get us to value the joy of earning money with our work and bla bla bla...

That's the official version (my mother's of course)...

The unofficial version is my father would always sneak around when my mum was distracted and would give us more money... "pssst! here here... because you never know... take it"

ahahahaaa!!! My sister and I would always argue that we had enough but my father is a man on a constant fear and anguish nervous breakdown so he would always give us more money in case we got lost and needed a taxi, were abducted and needed to pay our own rescue, had an appendicectomy and needed to pay for the procedure before coming back home for supper etc...

So I guess we were taught two parallel sysytems ... the stingy model (mum) and the hysterical over protecting model (dad)...

Luckily enpough my sister and I have grown to value money, to understand that it is important to save some but also to indulge and treat ourselves every now and then...

    XD

I guess that when I become a parent I'll be more like my father and be the cool mum ahahahaaaa!!!
