Australians Tracy Whitelaw and Angela Simpson, avid gamers and avid lesbians, recently launched the website LesbianGamers.com (with the cheeky tagline "because sometimes we use our hands for other things"). Their mission is to give lesbians a place to chat about video games and to provide reviews and info on lesbian gaming — you just can't find this stuff anywhere else! Since many AfterEllen.com readers (including myself) are known to pick up a controller now and then, I invited Tracy and Angela to do a regular video blog to give us the scoop on the latest games and gaming news. In their first episode, they run down some of the must-have games of 2007 across all formats, including Heavenly Sword, Tomb Raider Anniversary, Mass Effect, My Sims and Guitar Hero III.
They also offer their take on the Mass Effect lesbian/alien sex controversy, and Tracy dishes the dirt on Angela's secret gaming embarrassment. Here's a little background on Tracy and Angela:
Now watch the vlog! Check back in January for more gaming vlogs from Tracy and Angela. Submitted by on December 18, 2007 - 9:44am. |

Awesome Vlog
Yahooo!!
Way to combine my 4 favourite things in the world- Aussies, Scots, video games and lesbians! I love you guys, and lovely sexy accents. I'm a hugely obsessed gamer, who is deprived of a system other than my PC. I am a total mooch with my friends and their systems, as one of my friends has a xbox 360 and a Wii(by the way I think that is the silliest names for a game system ever). I have decided that I am going to claim the status of Tracey's gaming twin, because I agreed with every single thing you said. Love Lara, hate Halo-just do not get it. Laughed my butt off at the Scottish subtitles, and proud to say I had no need of them, because even though I'm Canadian I'm a Scot at heart and thanks to my Da (who is a born and raised scot) I've got a passport to prove it.
Finally, I cannot express the amount of jealousy that coursed through my veins whilst watching this vlog. First the size of the game collection behind you made my eyes bug out and I actually had to rewind because I missed what you were saying I was so distracted. And also sitting here in Canada where the temperature is -33C, and the idea of "air conditioning" is only a faint memory, I've never been as jealous of Aussies as I am right now.
Thank you soooooo much for your fabulous blog and I can't wait for the next one. You girls are super!
Yay!
You missed the Alien romance in Mass Effect? ack! And yeah making the Asari a mono-gendered race felt like a cop-out to avoid flak.
And yay for a gaming vblog! Not a whole lot of female gamers in my neck of the woods. No PC games representation though?
I'll be looking in on BioShock. Thank you for recommendations. My Xbox 360 library is still very small.
Gamer girl from way back
First console? Well I had a pong box, but first real system was, of course, the Atari 2600. Can't remember what the first cart I got for it was...perhaps Space Invaders.
First "computer" game? The original text Adventure on a Dec PDP 11/70 back in highschool. Using a Dec line printer for access, myself and a few other people went through reams of 132 column printer paper to finish that game....:)
Anyway, these days I have a PSP, although I don't use it much anymore. Bought it day one. Other than that I am not much of a console gamer anymore. Last one I really owned was an original Playstation where I spent more than a few hours playing Crash Bandercoot.
I do game on my PC, but mostly I only play Everquest. I have been with the game since 1999, a few months after its release. I now play on the EQ Test Server only. If any of you ladies play EQ and stop by the test server, feel free to send me a /tell or drop me an in game mail. Character name is Rentia.
Yay
I'm so not into gaming but I might be after this. Aussies! Love that accent!
The only game I am into is Age of Mythology
The Way The Cookie Crumbles
No Borders AllowedAwesome!!
You guys rock! And I'm not only talking about the most super-cute accents in the world, I really enjoyed your advices and it may help me write my letter to Santa... So many thx!
And please I don't want you two to die from hyperthermia so maybe you should leave the clim on!
'Til next time!
"I'm gonna give you all a nice, fun, normal evening even if I have to kill every person on the face of the Earth to do it"
Guitar Hero
I agree, I thought the "changes" they made to the female characters in Guitar Hero 3 sucked... I like my rocker girls with a bit of an edge!
I am also jealous that it's summer by you, and you have the a/c blowing, as I sit huddled in Michigan with about 80 million blankets!
Gayming
Hey, just to say I loved your vlog, and it was great to hear your thoughts on all the games. I'm also impressed with the size of your game collection, wow!
I was wondering if maybe you'd review differnt types of games, like best racing game, best stratergy, best 1st person shooter, best multi-player etc. I'd find that useful.
Can't wait to see the next vlog (at the moment I'm playing 'stuntman: ignition' which is cool, but there's not much variation. Another game I really like, but it's a bit old now, is 'primal').
Oh, yeah, almost forgot - I really need the Simpsons DS game because I love using my DS on the train (I travel a lot) but I'm getting fed up of playing Nintendogs and Need for Speed.
:)
merry christmas
ZOMG *SQUEE*
what ...
server are you on ?!?!?!?! :D
I smile, I grin, when the gal with a touch of sin walks in
I hope, and I pray, for a Hester to win just one more "A"
World of W.
Oooh the subtext...
Tell me, when you go to a female elf vendor and she tells you in the most sexy raspy voice "feel free to browse..." while moving her body in the most seductive way... Don't you want to browse her all over?
Ahem. Or am I the only one constantly affected by her words...
oh no ...
I'm right there with you ....
Browse ... oh I'll feel free to browse, all right.
I smile, I grin, when the gal with a touch of sin walks in
I hope, and I pray, for a Hester to win just one more "A"
Hehe.
Bronzebeard ...
My Main is a Night elf *male* Hunter (gasp!) named Accolon. all the rest of my alts/twinks are female though ... But Accolon was the first one I ever made ... Maybe I'll just have to make a Trollbane character ... although I'm gringing Accolon to get to 70 ... almost ... there ... (I only started playing this year)
I smile, I grin, when the gal with a touch of sin walks in
I hope, and I pray, for a Hester to win just one more "A"
Hehe.
I am currently in WoW
I am currently in WoW rehab. I joined WoWers Anonymous and kicked the habit. Almost a year now! I'm hanging in here :D
I started playing around 4 years ago, in Alliance, but since moved to Horde. I've had many characters. Man, it was fun... Oh no, i gotta stop talking about this. I'm starting to feel the urge again.
Oh but here's a story i like to share, when i was a low level Alliance (human female) and traveled through Horde lands, i would take all my clothes off - ahem, in the game. Why? 90% of the Horde i encountered would flirt with me instead of killing me. That char is hot! I have screen caps of her in various poses. :P
Finally a reason to pay attention to gaming!
If I had a console...
...I would
1. have to actually pay attention to what you are saying (instead of just the accents)
2. buy some cool game that you recommend
3. get addicted
4. stop sleeping
5. stop eating
6. stop studying
7. stop reading AfterEllen
8. forget that any of you ever existed.
Yes, It's a good thing I don't have a console!
(This is just me trying to make myself feel better, pay no attention)
Ps. I'm just kidding about the last one - I could never forget you people! And I love this vlog, don't let me spoil the mood!
I just want you to know ...
That even though you mock my lifestyle choices (of not sleeping, eating, and mass addiction), I fully support your Avatar.
The dust mites in Spirited Away = AWESOME.
I smile, I grin, when the gal with a touch of sin walks in
I hope, and I pray, for a Hester to win just one more "A"
Thanks!
I dig your avatar, too - it suits you well!
Oh, and I'm not mocking you! It's just that I've been there before (when I still had my PlayStation One), and I should never go back - I get addicted way too easily! Besides, at the moment I'm addicted to this site, and double addictions are never good...
See ...
I tend to utilize the rotation method of my addictions - PS2, to WoW, to AE, to Wii, back to Wow, back to AE .... it works out well. That way, during my rotation pattern, I never get bored, and can even take 15 minutes out of my schedule to play with my wife ... (btw, she tends to be the gadget guru ... she got an itv for Christmas!!)
being the Aries I am, I need multiple pretty shiny things to hold my attention and massive intellect....though really, just my attention. :)
I smile, I grin, when the gal with a touch of sin walks in
I hope, and I pray, for a Hester to win just one more "A"
I am in ...
...Geek-lesbian heaven right now!! I'm laughing and crying at the same bloody time!
I want to buy you pizza and beer ... I'll bring my own controller.
I totally agree with you about Tomb Raider Anniversary - a return to the roots = brilliant.
I don't have a PS3 yet!!!!!! dang it ... now I want to play Heavenly Sword.
Now, I know God of War II is in no way lesbian (except for the massive weapons), but what did you think about it? I stayed up all night to play it ... I wasn't disappointed ... Halo over-rated?! TOTALLY. Although you want to talk about a game with a lot of active lesbian players - let's talk World of Warcraft!
I don't *have* Nintendo DS, but I'm going to play, just because I'm in full support of this Vlog.
Why I should have The Simpsons video game: Not only do I have my own spider pig/Harry Plopper, but I have entirely complete scenes (in my head) of Lisa Simpson realizing she's a lesbian, in various scenarios. Because don't we all kinda think she is?
PS - In one of your vlogs, I think a discussion about the Nintendo Wii, and your thoughts therein would be wonderful.
I smile, I grin, when the gal with a touch of sin walks in
I hope, and I pray, for a Hester to win just one more "A"

Sarah Warn -
THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU ...
a thousand times, thank you.
if I could give you 20 user points right now, i would.

Sims 2
First of all, congratulations to you two on being able to drag my butt out to finally post my first comment on afterellen after months of obsessive lurking =)
I'm so glad that Tracy brought up the lesbians in My Sims because in my experience, lesbians break the game.
A few years ago I was playing Sims 2 on the PC and of course being the nerd that I am, started developing a really close relationship with another female sprite. I built up the relationship so well that I could finally choose the Kiss option when my character came up to her. So what do I do? I make them kiss of course and as I see them slowly tilt their heads and inch closer...and closer...BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH!
Haha no, just kidding, there was no blue screen but the screen did go black and the game totally crashed. I've tried to do that action soooo many times and every single time it crashed. I guess lesbians are just too hot for EA Games...
P.S. one last thing, I just started playing Puzzle Quest and I must agree, it's pretty darned addictive!
Strange...
Oh the days
when I owned all the consoles. Now my son rules the Xbox and PSP. I've managed to keep the DS for myself, mostly. That's why I need the game! If I bought all the consoles now, I'd still never get to play. We have had fun playing together but his playing style and mine don't match well.
I still miss some of the old games like Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Earth Worm Jim. Nice to have some lesbian content now though.
This vlog is great. Looking forward to hearing more. Thanks to you both and Sarah for adding this to the AE.
Assassin's Creed
Loved it, and I'm a huge gaming fan myself...
Just wondering why Assassin's Creed isn't
on the list of must have games 2007?
I loved that game.
I loved this vlog!! THANK
I loved this vlog!! THANK YOU!!!
Angela - loved your t-shirt and the whole collection..whooaaaah.. can I visit? You won't even notice I'm there.. I wont be eating, sleeping or being social at all.. just gonna play all your games.. with the mario-toy in my lap. can I touch it? ok, im loosing it, sorry.
and tracy, ur so funny and yes ur accent is adorable..
anyway, im so ashamed.. i only got a ps2.. and i have been totally anti xbox.. maybe its time I leave those feelings behind and buy some new stuff.. like wii.. ps3.. and xbox360.. (not sure my friends will agre its a grown up choice but who cares, im a grown up!! ;o) right? finally people who understands me..
so.. soon I will have ps3.. and my first game will be heavenly sword!!
oh.. and why I should have the simpsons game.. well, I shouldn't since I dont have Nintendo DS, but wave with a ps2 game next time and I'll be writing an essay about why I should have it ;o)
c ya all in jan!!
oh, and really funny comments posted, hope to read u all again, till next time
OK...
I am officially jealous of your abundant game collection.
*Gasp*... see the Mario brothers standing behind you gals... and you didn't mention the 2007 kickass Mario game?? Super Mario Galaxy, the best Mario adventure so far that screams both deep and addictive. Anyone who owns a Wii console, you don't wanna miss out on this one.
I had Tomb Raider Anniversary installed on my laptop for awhile, but I suck at using the keyboard control. *_*
Great vlog!
I was so excited about the new vlog that I was compelled to post for the first time after becoming a member those many moons ago.
First off, thanks for all the suggestions. I've had my head in the books for the past few months and haven't really been keeping up with the new games coming out. I'm still trying to figure out which next-gen console I should get (low funds prevent me from getting all of them), but I have been leaning towards the 360.
However, I do have Guitar Hero 3 for the ps2. I agree that the character designs this time around were generally dissapointing. The thing that bothered me the most though was the male lead singer's chracter design. His freakishly large mouth and chin just generally creeped me out...
Also, I must plead my case for being the most deserving of the Simpson's game. I recently got a DS but, being a poor college student, I've only been able to buy a few games: Phamtom Hour Glass (which I've beaten) and Animal Crossing (have yet to find anyone whose town I can visit though). Also, it's 33 degrees (F) in New York in the middle of winter and I need some indoor entertainment. Plus, if I don't win, Link-Cat will be sad (check the avatar) and you don't that do you? Thanks a bunch and I can't wait for the next vlog!
Pulling the cute animal card??
Normally, I would call party foul!
However, since the kitten's name is Link - I say - game on!

Woot!
Trollbane, Alliance. My charc. is Emmafrost - Human Rogue (:
What about you?
Awwww....
I'm Alliance on Bronzebeard ....
And my *main* is actually a male (*gasp! Shock and awe!*) Night Elf Hunter named Accolon (male consort to the Goddess...heh heh heh). Though all my other characters are female.
I smile, I grin, when the gal with a touch of sin walks in
I hope, and I pray, for a Hester to win just one more "A"
Love LG, Y'all Rock
Those aren't really on my Christmas list this year (I only have Wii and I already got MySims, ;) ) However, my favorite feature on y'all's blog so far has been the comic, way better than IGN toons usually is!
Here are some other lesbianish games if you haven't played them:
Vampire Games:
Bloodrayne (If you play it and compare it to the equally cruddy movie, you'll see that the feature film captures the atomosphere of the game perfectly. It's not exactly rich in plot, the main character likes to say she's a damphir a lot, and there's tons of lesbian subtext. PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, Mac, and PC.)
Bloodrayne 2 (Never played it, but I'm guessing it's more of the same. PS2, Xbox, PC.)
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (Haven't played it because Vampire the Masquerade video games are lame, but apparently female PCs can have an implied sexual relationship with Jeanette. PC only game!)
RPGs Similar to Mass Effect, Except Last-Gen:
Knights of the Old Republic (Juhani will flirt with female PCs... and totally deny it if you call her on it. Game is available for Xbox or PC. It sucks that she's the only lesbian in the game because she's a really ugly, whiny catwoman. Meh.)
Knights of the Old Republic II (Visas can have a romance with male or female PCs)
Jade Empire (Silk Fox is apparently bisexual, as you can romance her as a male or female PC, and to satisfy male fantasies, male PCs can romance Silk Fox and her cousin Dawn Star at the same time to unlock an inferred three-way. Game is available for Xbox or PC.)
Others:
The Misadventures of Tron Bonne (This is a spinoff of Megaman Legends. In Megaman Legends, Tron had an inferred romance with Megaman, but in her own game, I sorta thought she had a romance with the Police Chief chick. I played this game obsessively as a kid. Playstation only!)
The Sims series (Except on some handheld adaptations, you can have romances with whatever other Sims you want. Usually there is an option for same-sex couples to get married and adopt children as well. It's a total nonissue with The Sims... how awesome is that?)
On a personal note, once I made a pirate chick for Sims 2 Xbox, I had her on free will, and the first thing she did when I unpaused the game for the first time was go flirt with her (female) roommate. I freaked out. I was like, HOW DID MY GAME KNOW I WAS A LESBIAN?!

Obsessive? Me? Never!
Aww this is great vlog.
Aww this is great vlog. Fellow gaming geeks and with cool accents.
I could say you should give me the simpsons game because I'm a fellow scot...but that's a complete lie as I'm Irish. You should give me the simpsons game because I spent all my money on presents for the
oprhansfamily and didn't buy myself any games. Apart from Mass Effect. (Such a cool game, I just hope Bioware are making a KOTOR 3.)My slot is empty...the DS cartridge slot I mean and if it doesn't have a new game, based on yellow skinned cartoon characters it will die :(
Can't wait for the next vlog guys. Happy christmas.
Scotland
hey tracey, where in scotland you from? Im representing the glasgow massive right here.... although currently in fife.....
f
I'm tempted to say Fife
I'm tempted to say Fife area cause there's a touch of the Edith Bowman's about her accent.... but not sure...Never mind :P
I complety agree with you
I complety agree with you about Heavenly Sword. I had a chance to play the demo at Gamestop and I was totally impressed. Gameplay was fairly easy (if you have any experience w/ PS), and graphics was very well done. Plus, I'm a fan of the hand to hand combat cames; too bad I don't own a PS3 (just not enough good games for it yet, and it's a whee bit expensive). I have high hopes tough.
Shooters, on the other hand, I don't like so much. I can tolerate Halo but the prospect of dying over and over gain doesn't sound fun to me, especiallly since I'm not very good at it. I can see how the mulitplayer would be fun, but It's complety overhyped. But maybe I'll buy my own copy since my Xbox 360 is on it's way! I'm still considering the Orange box, really just out of curiousity, and Rockband has been ordered. I'll be rocking out for Christmas because we all know that the only thing better than chicks with guns is chicks with guitars LOL
And you gave me good ideas for DS games. Which reminds me, another game to not play in the hospital waiting room is Phenoix Wright Ace Attorney. That requires some serious yelling; and screming the word OBJECTION for no aparent reason will definitely bring a few unwanted stares your way.
Why I should have the Simpsons game?: because I don't own it. I need to make the move from casual gamer to fangirl and playing a nich game like this one just might get things rolling!
Anyways, I've rambled on enough. Thanks for the Vlog. Look foward to more of these.
Don't be a slave to the unavailable!Lesbian Gamers!
Lesbo Lan Party Time
Thanks for posting this! Finally a safe place to admit some of us lesbos game !
My Editor is on vacation. Peace takes work hippies.
Great gaming vlog!
That was a great vlog and I'm thrilled to see you will be doing a regular spot on gaming. I was even more thrilled to find out you are locals (well, I'm in Brisbane so in the greater scheme of things that's local). It would be great to organise some gaming nights or afternoons or something!
Having said that, although I grew up on consoles (Alex Kidd anyone?) and then progressed to the PC, the only game I play now is World of Warcraft (and fairly casually at that) and the odd DS game usually when I'm waiting to pick someone up. But I think that's mainly because I never ended up with a bunch of friends who were into gaming so it kind of slipped from my life a bit but I would loooooooove to get back into it and this vlog just makes me miss it more.
In fact, my reason why I should win The Simpsons game is that this vlog is going to cost me heaps of money because now I'm going to have to go out and buy at least one of the latest consoles, not to mention some games, so that I can keep up and this will send me broke so I would look on The Simpsons game as part compensation for my financial distress.
Looking forward to your next vlog with great anticipation. Thanks for taking the time!
P.S. Your gaming site http://lesbiangamers.com is great too. I just have to mention the article on your site regarding the problems you've had with Facebook not accepting the word 'Lesbian' as an acceptable title to link to. It's completely ridiculous and I hope AE staff pick up on the story and do an article. We need to protest this!
Well Thank You Everyone!
Hey!!
Wow we are absolutely ecstatic that you have all loved the vlog so much and you've really inspired us to feel motivated about the next one! Hopefully all these beautiful comments will continue hahaha.
We are taking on board some of the suggestions you've all made including the PC reviews, 'best of' genres and everything else!
Now.. to quickly address a few specific things... I'm from Glasgow, for the lovely Scot who asked ;op Only been in Australia since January. The comment about the pizza and beer sounds like heaven, pizza is my friend... mmmm. Anyone who lives locally (assuming you're not some kind of serial killer or whoop ass Halo player) is more than welcome to hook up for some games. We're new in the area so gaming lesbians are something we're on the lookout for. Actually, we dyke spot when we're out and ask each other.. I wonder if they live near us.. hahaha yes we're that sad.
Ok, so what else.... ahhh Facebook.. yes it's shocking isn't it? I still can't believe it to be honest. Definitely worth pursuing there.
Right I'm sure there's a ton more things we could single out, but seriously, you guys have made two very nervous vlog virgins extremely happy today so we salute you!
xxxx
ABOUT DANG TIME!!!
Lesbian Gamer Geek Pride!
"We are gamer geeks. Yahhh! \^.^/" Lol. That was so cute. :)
The collection in the background amazed me. o.O
w00t!
Hello from a fellow Queenslander! I live up the coast a bit, but I holliday on the Gold Coast about once a year. I am waay happy about the gaming vlog... all I need now is an anime vlog on AfterEllen and my geekiness will forever content. =P
To the person who mentioned BloodRayne, BloodRayne 2 and Vampire Masquerade Bloodlines - BloodRayne 2 is my favourite game ever! (Hate the movies and feel like killing Uwe Boll though)
I played Bloodlines and can vouch for its lesbianism. You can seduce female and male characters regardless of your gender (mostly only to feed off) the only female character I managed to sleep with was Jeanette (from memory the screen goes black and you hear some stuff)
I usually only game on PC and RPG is my favourite genre.
btw, Portal gets my vote for the best game of this year. I was laughing my head off the whole way through and saying for days "The cake is a lie!"
I
thinkprocess therefore I am... lesbianYeah yeah yessssss
Suddenly I do not feel like a geek. ( a lonely geek). I understand everything BUT Bioshock. Still do not get it.
And where is FIFA08????? I love that game.
I choose my friends for their good looks, my acquaintances for their good characters, and my enemies for their good intellect. : Oscar Wilde
FIFA 08
SWEEET!!!
Finally a look at girls who are serious about games! I've been playing games since I could walk and I'm glad I'm not the only one! Bout time we had a better look at the games that girls too, like to play even if they're made predominantly for an all male audience...anyone hear about those Nintendo DS games for girls that are about being a fashion designer and taking care of babies?! That made me want to barf...I hope no one in their right mind buys into that crap.
On a positive note, freakin loved Heavenly Sword even though it was soo short :S And it's a trilogy apparently so I can't wait for the next one. Is it just me or did Nariko/Kai have a sort of Xena/Gabrielle relationship going on? And Twing-Twang?! anyone else pick up on that?
not so much of a console gamer
I'm more of a computer gamer since i'm at my computer more due to school. WoW is my poison. But it was great to see some game girls - we pwn
