Gay Girls Who Game: Episode 14

This week, LesbianGamers.com founders Tracy and Angela sail the seven seas on their Pirate adventure to celebrate Pirategrrrl's birthday. Covering video games featuring pirates, ninjas and more Lara Croft, they throw in a hearty helping of Pirate Speak.

Games covered this week include Ninja Reflex, Tomb Raider Anniversary, Everybody's Golf World Tour (aka Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds) and more.

Look out for the "impersonations" of Mrs Doubtfire and Randy Jackson — they have no shame.

Hey girls, I really like your vlog, I am quite impressed with the tomb raider footage that you showed, the graphics (in my untrained eye) look amazing. I haven't played any of the tomb raider games before but this one seems a good place to start. Keep up the great work. Katie

    THANK YOU!

You are both so wonderful ... HAPPY BIRTHDAY ON THURSDAY, TRACY! Are you going to have a SIMS themed Birthday? I will definitely be thinking of you on the 17th!

And you DON'T look stupid. You look Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrsome! (I took some poetical license with that). Angela, I love the bandana! Tracy, you look awesome. I'd let you pilot my ship, even!

Mrs. Pirategrrrl has an itouch. and an iphone. and a nano. *sigh* .... and all I want is an LP/MP3 converter.

Tracy, you have a great scary face. ARRRRRRRGGGGG!!!!!!

Tankard of Ale? Check. Buxom wenches? double check. Happy Birthday to me!

No one makes a decent pirate game. Not even the Jack Sparrow versions are very interesting. It makes me sad. But I DO need to get Zak and Wikki ... still haven't played it.

By the way ladies, for your general database information, Pirates and Ninjas HATE each other! I of course, take no offense.

You can't go wrong with a pirate theme!

Yay for Assassin's Creed on the PC!  Bummer about the golf game's horrendously long loading time.  I would pitch a hissy fit too!  But the graphics look cool.  And When Tracy went to the Tomb Raider game, I did think "Oh no, not again" but in a very thick Californian accent.   ; )   But that clip looked really stunning graphically speaking.   And geez, what are the Rock Star distributors thinking? Why double the price? Tariffs? I would think they could make just as much selling more units at a lower price than fewer units at the higher price.  Oh well, economics befuddles me.

Thanks again ladies for a very entertaining vlog, and happy b-day to Pirategrrrl and Tracy!

I'm sold on Tomb Raider for the Wii

Thanks for the review of Tomb Raider for the Wii, I think I will definitley give it a go now- I had been debating since I already have it for the XBOX 360.  But you convinced me, it looks great and I'm looking forward to it!

Are you guys as excited as I am for the new Star Wars game thats coming out on the Wii?

Thanks for the vlogs, I enjoy them every week!

Star Wars + Angela = Happy Geek Overload!

    Heyyyy,

Angela is freeeeeaking out about this. You may have seen the vlog we did that had lightsabers in it? Well she loves Star Wars so gaming and Star Wars coming together where she can wave around a wiimote in a lightsaber casing is literally her ideal of Heaven hahahaha.

If we get our hands on a copy we'll do a review when it comes out.

I haven't "gamed" since the Super Nintendo was the latest craze, (!!!) but all the talk last week about SingStar caught my attention. I love your vlog.. you ladies are hilarious!

My friends and I bring out the American Idol karaoke whenever we have a few drinks, and well.. it's.. interesting.. haha

    Yay for April Babies

Happy Birthday to both Pirategrrrl and Tracy. Hope you both have a gay gaming ol' time :)

Also, any talk about Lara Croft is good talk, and oddly enough I do think in a thick Scottish accent.

And now it looks as though I have some more saving up to do in order to get the Wii as well, even though I still can't quite believe that that word has made its way into my vocabulary as anything other than a cutesy word for urination. Ah well, the things one will forgive for the sake of awesome gaming.

Ninja reflex didn't really sound like my bag, but the guided meditation sounded cool. That got me thinking of a whole new range of buddhist games, which could last your whole lifetime as the true goal would be enlightenment:) WHat a happy camper that would make me. Maybe I'll start my own vlog- Gay Buddhist's who game- recommending the most homo friendly games that further enrich one's spiritual being. Hmmmm.... mybe not

    Journey to the Wild Devine

You should try Journey to the Wild Devine for PC or Mac. It's a very very cool meditation game where you control it by breathing correctly.... we'll try and show it on the next vlog xxxx

So, what's the safeword when you play Pirates and Captains?  [snickers]

Thanks for the advice on RPG games.  :)  I've picked up a few more games but haven't played any of them yet, so no need to really comment.

I can't wait for Civilization Revolution it really played a part in my decision to buy an Xbox 360.

    Happy Birthday Pirategrrrl and Tracy!

Hope you have a great Birthday and get lots of computer game pressies.

Thanks for agreeing that the majority Movie games suck. I'm going to show this to my girlfriend because we're stuck in a destructive cycle: she always buys a Movie computer game, I tell her it'll be rubbish, she plays it and says yes it is rubbish, i say I know all movie games are rubbish, and then she then forgets goes out and buys another movie computer game, and so the circle continues (she makes me giggle).

I was thinking of changing my photo because it looks a bit like I'm peeing in the reeds but I'll keep it since you both like it (In the photo I'm actually trying to pull myself out of the lake. I can't do nature wees I once held on for 2 hours on a fieldtrip in Spain rather then wee behind a bush).

     Peace out peeps xxxx

    Happy Birthday Pirategrrrl and Tracy!

Yay for April girls! (GF's birthday was the 6th)

Thank you for answering my question. GF even sat and listened to your opinions on the Asus eee, doubting Thomas that she is.

Cookies for Angela for knowing where my name is from! It was going to be Unhygenix the Fishmonger but GF vetoed that outright.

    Can you tell I'm p-whipped? :)

    Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday Pirategrrl and Tracy. I made sure not to make her lose the ball this time when I watched the Vlog. *blush* Hah, and I must say, cute soccer girls are drawrn to fifa and therefore to may room, I MEAN, what, no that is not why I love that game so much.

Ew, 15 minutes to load, mer, that would have me bored out of my mind.

Hah, Tracy talking about the new things Lara can do is like a kidd in a candy shop, that made my day.

    DS

    Great Vlog!

I have a DS question for you two. I just bought a DS lite because watching this vlog got me hooked on gaming again (I haven't touched a game since my original sega days!) And I chose the DS for many reasons, one of them being that my 11 year old god daughter has one and I enjoyed playing it while she was over. Long story short, I am looking for a DS game that a 28 yo and a 11 yo can play together on our two DSs. I know we both have to have the game, but do you have any recommendations what would be fun to play together? Via infrared, cable hookup or however that works? I should also add that we live in Germany, so I need to be able to get the game in the Euro version.

Thanks in advance for the tips.

Keep up the great work, you two have me laughing every time!

    Lesbian Gamers's picture

The game you MUST get is....

Animal Crossing Wide World. Without doubt this is the best game for you both to play together. You will get totally hooked on collecting things and you can visit each others towns, swap presents and a whole lot more! The cool thing is you can also play each other from your own homes over wifi so long as you're on each others friends code list.

Other possibilities are Mario Kart on the DS, but by far Animal Crossing should give you the most longevity and the most interactive fun with each other. We can talk about this in the next vlog too if we can squeeze it in :o)

    Anything_but_Ordinary's picture

    Thanks!!

Animal Crossing sounds perfect! Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks so much!

    Yay for Aries Grrls!

Happy Birthday to my fellow Aries ladies!

For my birthday this year (April 5th!) I received a Wii and am LOVING it! I must confess, previously I've not been much of a gamer... remembering all of the combination codes on controllers has not been my strong point so, alas, I was mostly reduced to hurling them away in frustration. I settled for "co-pilot" status, as it were, while my gf played ('specially the Buffy and Lara Croft games... I'd keep eyes peeled for the glowing clues, secret passages and such <*sigh>). At any rate, all of that has changed with the arrival of the Wii! My propensity for acting out what I wanted the characters to do is finally a good thing! I've been loving the Mario Olympics, Wii Sports, Guitar Hero... but this weekend, my new obsession is Mario Kart!! It absolutely rocks... I cannot recommend this game highly enough! It is totally addictive, you have been warned!

I also picked up the Tomb Raider game but I've sadly not been able to play yet. And won't for a short while as we're off on holiday this week. But like you, Tracy, when I saw that you can actually do all of the archeology stuff in addition to the previous aspects of the game I was well pleased! After your review I'm even more eager to get dug in when I return (Pardon the pun).

I've been greatly enjoying your vlog ladies and am now very much looking forward to the special Halloween edition! Also the undoubted flood of attempted bribing to get Tracy to display her singing talents. So... is there anything we could send along from good old Scotland to entice you? Need any whiskey?...deep fried mars bars?...Irn Bru?? <*wink>

    Gallium's picture

    Lara Love

Tracey your review of Tomb Raider almost makes me want to buy it but I never play on the wii for any lengthy amount of time.

Mazikeen - never tried the fried mars bar, but Irn Bru is a true classic scottish drink. No one in london understand my obsession with it.

    As usual great vlog!

First of all happy birthday to both Pirategrrrl (even if a little late) and Tracy (even if a little early)!

I loved the pirate theme! Unfortunetely there aren't so many games with pirates, I'm still looking something as great as Monkey Island (the first 3 at least) ç_ç

Will we see some other themes episodes anythime soon? Halloween seems just too far away eheh ;P

Now I'll come back to play Mario Kart, and lose against my 12 years old brother -.-

    Another great episode

Thanks, ladies, for another very enjoyable episode.  I laughed throughout and it just proves the theory that you can't go wrong with pirates. :)

I choked when you mentioned having to pay 170 *POUNDS* for Rock Band.  Gah!  I totally understand why you would do this, though, and would do the same thing myself in that situation.  Even with the steep price tag, I doubt you will be disappointed.  Rock Band is a wonderful gaming experience, and it is among my top 3 favorite games of 2007 (along with Mass Effect and Bioshock).  I have also been very pleased and impressed with Harmonix's dedication to releasing new downloadable content each week.  It keeps me playing and I'm sure I will continue to do so for a long time. (On a side note, why is EA selling all the instruments in a box together in the UK but requiring a separate purchase of the game software?  That's fracking crazy!)

Finally, after 2 years of trouble-free XBox 360 ownership, I am sad to report that I fell victim to the dreaded "red ring of death" last weekend.  :(  My system is on its way to Microsoft as I type this.  They will repair it for free (and they also pay for all the shipping costs), so that's good news.  The downside is that I probably won't have it back before my copy of GTA 4 arrives on the 29th.

    Assassin's my creed

Thanks ladies for the feedback and fantastic vlog this week!!  I did buy it and it's AWESOME!!!  I love the sneak attacks.  Don't like the flag searching though.  What do you ladies mean about the PC version having the memory forward?  Like the whole future plot thing?

I'm not sure about getting the fighting game if I have to get an import version but thanks for the tip :)

Damn, I just bought TR:Anniversary for the PC.  Once a hard-core TR PC fan, always a hard-core TR PC fan (but I would've preferred Wii now *sob*).

Looking at the previous comments, I too can't wait for the Wii Star Wars: Force Unleashed for the Wii!  If it means I have to play Sith, then I'm a bad bad girl ;)
