    Film to Video Game

    Great Vlog again ladies.

I'm so looking forward to the X files film too but the mention of a video game linked to the Movie made me cring slightly. I find these types of video games appear rushed (probably because the poor game designers have produce a game in such a short amount of time). The graphics, storyline, mobility are usually poor, the only thrill is that the actors may voice their characters in the game (or they get someone to do a poor impersonation which is entertaining in itself).

Please prove me wrong, I'm not the gamer I use to be and I've heard the Jame's Bond Video games are quite good but then their not usually tied to a movie release.

    Much love xxx

    Golf game

jajaja, that happened to me too, i love my cars games and i never press the brakes but in real life when i drive i´m very pacient and quiet.

Now i´m playing Harry Potter, but like i said before, it´s very confusing. have you ever play this game?

    Saludos, bye

    Singstar!

Ok, Angela had me rolling on the floor when she was teasing Tracy about her Singstar affliction.  Too friggin' funny.  I like both of your ideas for games.  I would definitely play those!!  And I am going to hazard a guess, based on some of the youtube videos of this year's Dinah hijinks, that golf was not first and foremost on the minds of 99% of the attendees!  ; )

    Never posted before...

...but have watched all of your vlogs. I recently bought the Wii and it's great to hear your comments on many many games :)

I remember the X files PC game. I found it quite boring and only played it a few days. Never finished it. Might give it a go again.

Personally I'm looking forward to Mario Kart that's coming out on Friday. Wiiiiii!

    Brilliant vlog! I was

Brilliant vlog! I was laughing so much at you with you over the singstar addiction and I'm SO tempted to get a PS and game just to sing along to 9-5 ;)

I still haven't had chance yet to thank you guys for the suggestions of games for my non-gaming gf. I showed her my arcade games and to my surprise her reaction was "oh they look fun, I love things like that". You guys are genius! Unfortunately I've not had chance to try get her hooked on this yet though, she lives abroad so we have limited time together.

IMO they should leave movies alone, games rushed out to tie with movie releases are always terrible! But there are some good movie games, The Godfather is great fun! Can't wait to see the new X-Files movie but I'm not touching any game they do for it... :p

    misunderstanding,

I wasn't been serious by saying that I thought violence in gaming leads to violence in real life, I was trying to funny by saying how angry it gets me, lol

I feel really embarrassed now, I hope I didn't sound like I worked for fox news, lol

Thanks the x-files clip. Even if the game is rushed out I think I will still enjoying playing it.

    OMG! I am so jealous.

OMG! I am so jealous. *drools over singstar stack*  The only singstar games that have been released in the US are Rocks, Amped, Pop, 80's, and the 90s which was just released 3 weeks ago!  Sony has yet to release or even annouce a street date for the PS3 version here.  I may have to pick up a PS2 very soon if the PS3 version takes much longer.  I have been able to whet my appetite on Rockband though.  They have some really good songs on there and drumming is a BIG plus!

Oh and if I may add a few recommdations for the PSP... Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles and God of War Chains of Olympus are both really cool!

    Sweet

    Gallium's picture

    Singstar

Your singstar stack was impressive, we have quite a few ourselves though i've never played on it myself. My family are addicted but I can't work out why we enjoy it so much besides laughing at each other.

Though the game might suck the wii fishing rod looked cool.

LG Singstar Video! LG Singstar Video!

Talk about a LoL vlog! I spat perfectly good coffee out my nose onto my perfectly good keyboard at Tracy's amazement that she wasn't as good at real life golf as she was in the gaming world. Classic.

I cannot believe that there has been no video of Tracy and Angela Singstar-ing posted to date! I mean if real life golfing gets a clip, then why not the Singstar?? Please?!

We want Singstar! We want Singstar!

    Bad Influence...

Yes, this vlog is.  I went and bought an Xbox 360 today.  I've really wanted to try Mass Effect so I got that too. I'm surprised system itself didn't come with any games -- And that games are so expensive.  Sheesh.  I'll get a GameFly account though so I won't feel too guilty buying new games every once in awhile.

So, you guys mind recommending some RPG or Real-time strategy games for the Xbox?

Okay, back to setting up my account.

    _________

Watch out for the pokey-ball! OMG!
    Sabriel's picture

    Whoop!

Glad the girls got you to surrender to X360 goodness!

RPG games are some of my fave so thought I'd give you a quick list of some great ones...

I noticed the star wars link in your sig so if you're a star wars fan you simply MUST try out Knights of the Old Republic (I & II), it's for the original xbox but it's such a great game and very cheap too!

    Other great games are:
Jade Empire (again old so cheap!)
Oblivion - this game takes days/months to complete so worth the money
Fable (another old and cheap game!) There should be a 2nd Fable game out later this year I believe.

Hope you enjoy Mass Effect, it's probably my fave game at the moment :) x
Anyway I'm sure the gals will give you lots of suggestions!

    Pambi's picture

    WOW

I never cease to be amazed at how humorous you can be. I'm just sitting here quietly watching your vlog when I bust out laughing, and my roommate jumped 4 feet off the ground and proceeded to yell at me for an hour straight about making her lose the ball on Fifa. Indeed FIFA does rock, and a lot of my soccer mates who don't even like gaming have gotten addicted to it.

I may be blowing steam here but I think I heard from one of the friends that Tiger PGA Tour 07 is on Wii and that it is the golfing game that most resembles its real life counterpart.

    Alexa_Archer's picture

    HAHAHAHAHA!

Ladies, that video was hilarious.  Lesbian James Bond?  Check.  Slightly obscene fishing game peripheral?  Check.  The SingStar bit had me in stitches, as did Tracy's story about her real-life vs. gaming golf skills.  That's like me and Guitar Hero.  Yes, I might be the Bonnie Raitt of Guitar Hero and Rock Band, but really, you don't want to hand me an actual instrument.  ;)

My experience with SingStar was similar to Tracy's, which resulted in me buying and renting a bunch of SingStar and Karaoke Revolution titles.  Both are fun and the difference in presentation is interesting.  While I love singing along with actual 80's videos (SingStar 80's), I am more successful at the KR games.  KR allows you to sing in a different octave as long as you remain in tune, whereas in SingStar you are judged by how closely you match the original vocalist's performance.  Take Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time" as an example.  That song is on the American version of both games, and I am always much stronger in Karaoke Revolution.  (I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that Cyndi Lauper is a musical genius and I'm, uh, not.)

I liked Angela's idea of doing a whole episode devoted to SingStar.  Better yet, you could expand that and do a rhythm/performance genre extravaganza.  In either case, a demonstration video of Tracy singing "Respect" would be in order, for those who are unfamiliar with this type of thing of course.  ;)

Thanks for the PSP recommendations.  I had actually tried and enjoyed Exit.  I will definitely give LocoRoco a look and have added it to my GameFly queue.  I am hopeful because I learned that it was developed by the same studio that did Patapon, and that was good fun.  (It's a unique blend of rhythm, real-time strategy and RPG elements.  You should check it out if you haven't.)

    giselle's picture

    Singstar Rocks!...er...TM?

Your vlog made me ROFLMAO!!  Tracy, I feel for you.  I did the same when I discovered Singstar too!  I bought a whole heap and the people around thought I was weird.  Psst, Angela; get Singstar Rocks!  ;)  It's ashame that Singstar versions are different, country to country.  I'm still curious how the Bollywood Singstar (UK) would work.  Hmmmmmmmm.

I bought the Gametrak thing too.  I was excited about it as they were going to potentially release a boxing and sword-fighting game.  Unfortunately, I've only seen the Golf game.  Heard any word on these games?  As my Gametrak is gathering dust at the moment.

Oh yeah, Grim Fandango is a kewl adventure game.  So is X-files on PC.  Didn't like the X-files on PS2 as used Resident Evil engine.  Not much originality there.

Will Assasin's Creed be released on PC (sorry, I keep going back to PCs) or the Wii?  As I don't have a PS3, nor am I thinking of getting one (although am slightly tempted due to Heavenly Sword).

Can't wait to tune in next week's vlog!! :D

    Assassin's Creed on PC

Hi giselle -- I was reading your comments and saw your question about Assassin's Creed.  I don't know where you're located, but a PC version was released just yesterday in the U.S.  :)  It's called "Assassin's Creed: Director's Cut Edition".

    AWESOME!!

Thanks Alexa!  There's still hope in the world! :))

    Tech Question

I realize its not a gaming question but would you recommend the ASUS eee as a travel laptop? I've been wanting to get one and wanted to know how you liked yours.

Thanks! And how about some clips of Tracy playing Singstar next week :)

    Yay! Thank you!

Thank you ladies for answering my question! I have taken note and will be spending a considerable portion of my paycheck on your recommendations. Woot woot!

I had heard of Maniac Mansion but for some strange reason I never tried it out. Also, Grim Fandango, why on earth do I not have it? *is ashamed* Another AE user recommended it in the comments of the previous vlog as well and I almost fell off my chair because I had completely forgotten about it!

Adventurers unite! Old-skool is cool innit? :P

P.S Lesbian James Bond? Quick, someone put together a production team asap! :P

    giselle's picture

    Old-skool is cool (I like!)

Some other ones I'd recommend; Spycraft and Mystery of the Druids.  Sorry, more pocket burning.

I still see Sherlock Homes and Agatha Christie ones being released from time to time too.  CSI and Law and Order series are pretty good too!

    Pirategrrrl's picture

    *awwww*

*blush* I was just teasing about Angela's *arrrgh!* I hope your no-good-very-bad-day and my comment were unrelated!!!

And I can't WAIT for next week!!!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!! Gaming birthdays galore! And now that my curiosity is fully peaked, I'm going to be VERY impatient!!!!!! You're going to make the fact that my birthday is on a Tuesday MUCH BETTER than it would've been.

I am a big fan of Kingdom Hearts.

The Sega Bass Fishing "fishing pole" looks like .... a probe .... of some kind. A probe of no good .....

I live in Southern California, and I'm not at Dinah Shore. And I don't golf.

and btw GIEF companion cube!! where did u get it? :D:D

really cool ideas for games love them both ^^ i would make an RPG kinda game since i love that stuff (also oldschool Pen & Paper RPing) or maybe an Point and Click Adventure like Monkey Island..

have u tried Zack And Wiki (or somewhatnot) for the wii? (if yes) what did u think about it? worth anything?

    somethingwittyandcharming's picture

    Grim Fandango

I actually created an account just so that I could say: Play Grim Fandango. Play it. It's one of my all time favourite games. The only negative things I'd say about it is that the controls are a bit tricky to get used to at first, and some of the puzzles are a bit obscure.

But that is all made up for by the the storyline, the characters, the dialogue, the environments, hell, even the music is just perfect...

    Play it.

Also, for anyone looking for other adventure games, the old Sierra game like the Police Quest series are great, and I know some of the really old adventure games (from Sierra and elsewhere) can be downloaded legally as abandonware.

    giselle's picture

    PQ Series - Woot Woot!

Yeah, I loved the Police Quest Series too.  I think there was a bug with PQ3 as I never could get the max score.

Lucasarts did really great adventure games too, like Indiana Jones, of course, Monkey Island series, Sam & Max Hit the Road, Loom.

Oh, I almost forgot - Heart of China and Willy Beamish by Dynamix/Sierra too are fantastic!

Abandonware - that was the word I was looking for.  Thanks for that! :)

Oh, because PCs are much faster now than the days of when most of the old adventure games came out, and as some are time-based, there was a utility that Sierra released with the Gabriel Knight Pack, called Turbo.  This helps slow down the game that you're playing so that you can play it in "real-time".  There might be other similar tools out there on the internet.

    Can relate ...

My 13 year old nephew asked to spend his spring break with us. (My girlfriend says I can think like a 13 year old boy at the drop off a hat, but that's a story for another time.) Anyway, we spent an embarrassing amount of time this past week playing games on the Wii. We thought we were so great bowling that we decided to go bowling IRL. Hysterical, absolutely hysterical. Luckily no one took video of us. We played Tiger Woods' Golf on the Wii but decided against going to the links! Brag alert: He got platinum on 3 levels of Link's Crossbow and it was his first time playing it!!

The debate in our house is whether I should get a nintendo DS for casual game play or just get an iTouch. I'm leaning toward the iTouch but would like to hear what you folks think.

    Nodame's picture

    so strange

I don't know why but there was no sound on this episode for me.

But I just want to tell everyone about my current annoyance, I bought a DS and then PsP came out with Crisis Core. Major aggitation for me- damn you PsP.

Also I wanted to make a suggestion if you havn't already covered it, how about we have a Horror Game episode. Lets talk about amazing games like silent hill and how it freaked everyone out or even Fatal Frame which made Japanese twins scary, or the most underrated Game cube game Eternal Darkness.

    gamer girls

nice to see girls coming out and finally declaring their game involvement. luv the accents, can't help thinking about Mr. Doubtfire though. (American only reference?) bad Tammi , bad.  u guys mentioned not likin killin stuff so much, playing with female characters and the never ending aspect of some game u liked. Im so amazed that u guys haven't ever played Sims2. U can download all kinds of user created stuff for their houses, clothes, cars, etc, so that helps to keep it fresh. I designed my neighborhood so it's all female: married couples, business women, superheros, postal delivery women, doctors, etc. it's a life simulation game that i've been playin for ever. it's loads of fun. I could go on and on about the sims2,like u guys like the games u mentioned. to each their own though.  I agree about wii, i'm always kinda leary about gimmicky stuff, and wii is gimmick with a capitol G. Course, i'm a diehard pc gamer, so what do i know?  Yes, point n clic, clic n point, arrrrr!!! Actually, i could just listen to u guys talk , like , forever. U both sound so dead sexy.

    Oh finally

I'm able to see this vlog again!! My dsl decided to die the past 2 weeks sigh ç_ç

Ok, thank you very much for the answer you gave me in the last vlog, now I definetely have some games to try :P

LOL for the singstar games collection! It reminded me of my insane attempt to collect all the expansions of "The Sims"...now I'm over it, but for some reason I still wanted to buy The Sims 3 when Maxis announced it -.-!

I discovered a week ago the power (and fun) of a LAN connection, since I wasn't able to access to internet costantly I passed 2 days configuring my LAN...yes, I had a lot of time at hands...

However, now I'm looking to buy some good cooperative games to play with my brothers, sisters and whoever is passing by, do you have something to suggest? ^^

I know you're not much of a pc gamer, but "tentar non nuoce" (italian for "try doesn't harm", or something like that...). I'm also looking for Xbox cooperatives games: I already have Call of Duty 4 and Gears Of Wars, and I'm interested in Vegas 2 or GRAW 2, do you suggest them? Or do you have any other games to suggest? ^^

Thank you for this great vlog, you guys rock! See you the next vlog, I hope at least...

P.S. how cute is the portal box? *_*

    Point and click adventure games!

I hope people still read from this episode... haha.

I love adventure games; my all time favourites are: Monkey Island, Broken Sword and Grim Fandango.

I recommend anything by LucasArts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LucasArts_adventure_games)

The monkey island series is amazing and funny. 1,2&3 on the pc and 4 was turned 3D and made available on consoles aswell (it isn't as good as the others though.) Hard copies of Monkey Island games are hard to come by and are expensive when they do - this is why the internet is a wonderful place ;)

Broken Sword, I got this when it came out for the playstation original, it's also amazing (Both available on PC by Sold Out, very cheap.) 1 & 2 are perfect... 3 and 4? In my opinion, aren't worth the cd they're burned to. I love the hand-drawn graphics and stories of 1&2 - but they got turned 3D and less point n click in 3&4 which completely ruined it, plus the stories sucked beyond belief.

Grim Fandango, great voice acting (which is key to a game, because bad voice acting is so so annoying), great story, not the best graphics but they're cool nonetheless.

Some other games I like are: Still Life, Runaway, The Longest Journey, Martin Mystére, The Moment Of Silence, Fable.
