    Ann Bannon, Alive and Well

Kate's mighty fetching in her pre St. Pat's Day green. Hopefully it symbolizes more money coming into the Clinton campaign. The Tomlin/Wagner play on Ann Bannon's works sounds fantastic. Ann's going to be in L.A. soon, so check out her website for that and info on other appearances. She's proof that lesbianism is good for one's health and promotes longevity. As does watching Kate Clinton vlogs on a regular basis.

    Bikes and Tents

I dun even want to start on the bicycles (and their riding skills). Who on earth would bring a 10-person-tent on a bike trip that sleeps 2, 6-person-tent that sleeps 1. the most realistic one was actually Shane's. Did they not have any lesbians or lesbian-PAs on cast to direct them?

    Point of clarification

    I love your vlog, Kate...very funny...very intelligent.

I just would like to make a small correction to your comment about Louisville and the MWMF.  Transmen are not banned from the festival, only transwomen.  MWMF has a policy of allowing only woman-born women on "the land".  Technically, their policy is that only woman-born, woman-identified women are allowed, but they have never banned a woman-born, male-identified (as in ftm) person from "the land".  In fact, ftm folks have been allowed to fully participate in all aspects of the festival, including leading workshops about ftm issues.

    Now for the soapbox....

MWMF's policy may seem harmless but has actually led to very real and dangerous consequences for our mtf sisters. This bigoted and misguided distinction of woman-born has been used by other women-only entities to deny transwomen access to victim services, shelters, and counseling.  Many domestic violence programs, rape crisis centers, etc have denied services to transwomen because they were not born women.  I had the unfortunate experience of working for a domestic violence agency that had such a policy and shamefully denied a transwoman shelter when she was trying to escape her dangerously abusive boyfriend (he had stabbed her).

Transwomen are some of the most vulnerable among us.  One could argue that the recent murder of Lawrence King was motivated more by bias against his gender identity or gender expression than his sexual orientation:

"He would come to school in high-heeled boots, makeup, jewelry and painted nails — the whole thing," said Michael Sweeney, 13, an eighth-grader. "That was freaking the guys out."

We need to be standing in solidarity with our trans-sisters and do everything we can to protect them and fight for fully inclusive rights for ALL women.  MWMF is only a starting place, but an important one.  It planted the seed that grew this widespread trans-misogyny in the feminist community.

Thanks for reading my rant.  Have a great day!

Sapphist is a right on woman!

I can't tell you how much I appreciate Sapphist's trans rant.  What is up with us that we would dare exclude, marginalize, or in any way devalue, our very own minority within our minority?

While I've never had the pleasure of attending the MWMF, I am familiar with their policy, but not the reason or history behind it.  Also, I'm not sure that the MWMF can be blamed for planting the seed of trans-misogyny, but they have been guilty of complicity in the continuation of their policy.

I am moved by your call for solidarity.  Thank you for your post.

Oh yeah, Kate Clinton?  As always, my favorite.  Love you!!
