Viva Laughlin.

Oh. My. God.

It's awful.

Not like Private Practice awful. More like Dude, Where's My Car? awful. Where's that "my eyes, my eyes" bunny? I watched, maybe, the first half hour and then I just couldn't stomach it anymore.

Plus, the professor dating the main character's daughter is the same guy who, over ten years ago (boy do I feel old) played a professor (Jeremiah Lasky) who dated Kelly Kapowski on Saved by the Bell: The College Years...which just weirded me out on all sorts of levels. Typecasting, much?

How is it even possible that this show made it on the air? Who thought that was a good idea? And how is it possible that that person still has a job?

The main reason I hate that show is that it's an awful COPY of a mini series (from the UK) called Viva Blackpool.

I adored the original (still do.) --I didn't mind the mix of musical and crime one bit because the characters were interesting and engaging and the acting was very good. (And I might be a bit of a David Tennant fangirl.)

Of course as with most thing the US takes from the UK, it got shall we say, FUBAR. IMHO, Blackpool was different and wonderful; Laughlin wins a big pile of those "My eyes, my eyes!" bunnies.

i havent seen viva laughlin obv cos im english but i loved viva blackpool, it was so good it actually was innovative in a good way (also a fan of david tennant bit of a boy crush lol) i think the reason that worked was: 1 it was campy and fun, from what i gather from Lori's comments the US version isnt and 2 it made sense to be set in blackpool because the lead was english and wished he was in Las Vegas. whereas an american show about a casino should be set in Las Vegas its just stupid not to be.

I was able to find a few clips from Blackpool, which does look like it works. Luckily, most of the clips from Viva Colorado, or whatever it is called, have been deleted for copyright infringement... or so they say!

First off, let me just say how much I love this vlog because you two say what we are ALL thinking!

Secondly, Sarah, I know your shirt has to be from American Eagle but I love the "subtle" AE-AfterEllen shout out :-P

I completely agree with you on Viva Laughlin. It really is one of the worst shows to ever appear on television and I'm waiting for CBS to pull an "Emily Reasons Why Not" (AKA- Pull it after one episode) on that thing.

Another good casting choice of husband/director and wife/actress is Len Wiseman and Kate beckinsale... she was great as Selene... in Underworld and Underworld Evolution - in my opinion at least...

Luckily I love them both, but a lot of people feel that he's casting her just because they're in a relationship. I don't know, I don't mind seeing her on screen!

I could not agree more with you two.

I'm not a Jennifer Aniston fan, but I do have a huge soft spot for Angelina, and this is just frigging ridiculous. There's no gain in this whole fiasco the media has created. It's stupid as hell, and I wish these so called journalist out there would just... ::editing::

Same thing with Ellen and Iggy. I mean... please. Just please. And enough already.

Also. Wow. Lori, I had no idea you had it in you ::giggles:: I love your rants. You're almost putting Sarah's to shame, and that's saying something.

One of my favorite director/actor couple are Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter, I love those two.

I love Angelina Jolie and I couldn't care less about Aniston, sorry Lori ;) but you're right that whole Jolie vs Aniston boxing match has gotten old.

And that combover, duck face ass sure has nerves saying Angelina isn't in any way beautiful, granted she may not be everyone's cup of tea but the woman is beautiful, inside and out. I'm so sick and tired of hearing about Donald Trump. The man has a severe case of diarrhea of the mouth, anything that comes out of his is shit.

Be thankful I wasn't sitting up there with you, cause I could rant until I'm blue in the face on the topic of DT and that vlog would ahve lasted more than 13 minutes ;)

I love this video blog! Definitely one of the best ideas you guys ever had, and that's saying something.
I almost want to watch Viva Laughlin after this, because it sounds like it might go into history as the worst show EVER. And if it's that bad, it might even make me think twice next time before criticizing The L Word :P I mean, things can always get worse, right?

You can't be serious that great actors are wasnting time on a horrible show. A broadway musical muder-mystery show on TV? Say What? The actors are sigining on tv? And come on, Jennifer Aniston vs. Angelina? That's just reporters being lazy and making up things... Besides they should really come up with another angle to the whole thing... You know like Angelina and Jen are really at eachothers throats because they used to be an item, now that I would read... But these days it's more like I read Angelina Jolie, get intrigued but then realize it's just another stupid piece on her big "fight" with Jen and then turn the page over and read about Dumbledore being gay...

As it turns out, Viva Laughlin didn't viva very long:

Viva Laughlin has crapped out. After scoring a minuscule 1.2 rating in the 18-to-49 demographic for its premiere on Sunday, CBS is getting ready to pull the plug on its musical drama after only two episodes. An announcement is expected as soon as Monday afternoon. (Source: TV Guide)

Only two episodes? we got that beat... Nine Network in Australia dumped the show after only 1 episode hehe..seems they're not gonna try and make us sit through the second episode.

At the end when sara sed she wants the guy from heroes to erase her memory....it made my day. anyway, wow I had no clue such a bad show exsisted! Melanie G looks awful....although she has for awhile. Lori went on awesome rant! you two are great!

VIVA LAUGHLIN...ugh-2 words COP ROCK! This was destined to be an absolute failure, which has me wondering who in the Hell at the network gave the green light to this series?

IGGY-GATE... I agree, what the Hell is going on with the media when this story becomes as huge as it did, so much so that this story was apparently reported on European TV as well. I love dogs as much as the next person and think that Mutts & Moms should have handled the situation quietly with Ellen and that this story should never have gotten to the media, other than as a possible footnote to the story after it had been resolved.

ANGELINA & JENNIFER-I like both women (and Lori...I've met and spoken with Angelina on several occasions, she is one of the nicest people I've met in Hollywood and extremely fan friendly-not that you're not entitled to your opinion, just sayin' I think you'd like her if you met her).

I think that the media once again in its "the almighty dollar is the most important thing" stance simply loves to put these two women on their covers because they sell magazines. Everyone knows that the good vs. evil story is as old as time and from day one Jennifer was the pretty blonde relatable girl next door and Angelina was the dark, strange unrelatable "man-eater", so it made perfect sense to the tabloids to jump on that and continuously use these ideas of who these women are to sell magazines. Sadly it worked and still does.

Jennifer and Angelina are both decent people, so it's sad that the media is once again trying to pit 2 women against each other. You don't see the media trying to sell magazines with 2 men pitted against each other (save for the occassional 50 Cent/Kanye West type stuff).

As Sarah pointed out, no one except for Brad, Angelina and Jennifer know what truly happened. The media needs to stop this insatiable need they have to beat this story to death and move on!

ROSE MCGOWAN and HELEN MIRREN... ARGH! What is up with Hollywood... is there anyone with an original idea left (who needs a Barbarella remake)? As for Helen... she is a classy woman and a wonderful actress... certainly there are far better parts out there for her than as a brothel owner.

Finally on the Donald "the chump" Trump front... the other evening CNN SHOWBIZ had their usual evening poll this time asking Do You Admire Donald Trump? I'll post what I sent to them:

Donald Trump: What is there to admire about a bombastic, arrogant, bully who chooses every chance he can to pimp himself out for the almighty dollar?
He only shows himself for the little man he is when he chooses to attack people like Angelina Jolie for past behavior when her actions in recent years prove that she is more worthy of admiration than Mr. Trump will ever be!

Just because you're not in the US doesn't exactly mean you've been spared Iggygate (I'm another Ellen fan who didn't send death threats! Does that make me a role model?)...

I have to say I loved CutThroat Island, though (as well as Long Kiss Goodnight). Whatever you wanna say about Geena Davies in it, Morgan is a really good female action character. I even wrote a blog-post about her a while back.

You guys are fantastic when you rant! I love this vlog! Looking forward to more stupid celeb news just to hear you rant...

Glad they pulled the plug on that steaming pile because I watched 1.67 seconds of that show and had to run screaming from the room. How could they think that was even remotely entertaining, even in a bad or campy way? Who the heck is running the ship over there? The stupid! It burns!!

That said, I hope the Santa Ana winds die down soon, so that the worst firestorm(s) in California's recorded history can be stopped before it/they burn all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Looks like mudslide season is going to be brutal in SoCal this year, IF the impacted counties get any significant rain this winter. Not good. Not good at all.

I haven't seen Viva Laughlin, but it sounds like Steven Bochco's Cop Rock (1990). It was soooo bad. Thankfully, it was cancelled after about a couple of months.

By the way, the show is set in Laughlin, Nevada...but it is on the Colorado River. I think it was actually filmed at one of the Indian reservation casinos in SoCal. Lol! Just had a flash of Bill Murray as "Nick the Lounge Singer" at the opening of the Omagawli Casino on SNL...

While Viva Laughlin was horrible, the bigger problem I have is with Hollywood. Why do they insist on remaking British tv shows that were really good? Viva Blackpool was fun and had a really cool mood to it that somehow worked. There are only a few examples of the remakes out shining the originals(Sanford and Son, All in the Family). With technology today americans can get these shows much more easily. Coupling is one of my favorite shows, but does anyone remember the travesty that was the American version? But at least Hollywood had the common sense to not do the Vicar of Dibley with Kirstie Alley or the Footballers' Wives with Lucy Lawless. I love Lucy, but who could possibly replace Zoe Lucker as Tanya? Okay...I should probably stop ranting now, but I hope you all agree!

I agree that the whole Iggy thing was just ridiculous, but when I watched the clip of Ellen crying it made me wanna do something to cheer her up. Whether naughty or nice ;). My favorite soft butch crying. Oh my ...

Donald Trump is an idiot, nuff said.

As for the Angelina vs Jennifer thing, I'm not a big fan of either of them. I mean, aren't we ALL bored to tears by that whole thing by now? Jeez.

I believe Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick played love interests in "The Woodsman" which I think Bacon also produced or directed or something. That was a good film that tackled a taboo subject in a very realistic and thoughtful way.

Hmmmm I just noticed for the first time....

JA : AJ (Jennifer Anniston/Angelina Jolie) I wonder if this has any mystical significance?

As for Private Practice....it's certainly not as good as I had hoped, and Amy Brenneman's character would lose her medical license for her stalking behavior. But for some reason, I still enjoy watching the show. Go figure !

On Iggygate.....it was surely over the top. I am certainly a proponent of good animal care but this was just out of hand on all parties. I feel sorry for the dog the most out of all of this.

Hah! Cutthroat Island - What a horrible movie. I watched it for the first time a year or so ago and I couldn't believe Gina Davis agreed to star in a movie like that. Now it makes sense. Oh, and that cheesy ending with her firing the cannon and saying, "Bad dog". LOL LOL.

As for Angelina and Jennifer Anniston -- I'm a Jennifer Anniston fan and I'm with you completely, Lori. Angelina is okay, I don't dislike her or anything, I just think Jennifer is a better actress and more of a class-act. I feel so sorry for Jennifer though - She didn't ask for any of this crap. And reading people hating on her here because they're an Angelina fan -- How absolutely stupid is that?
