First Look: Melissa George as Sadie on "Grey's Anatomy"

ABC just published the first still images of Grey's Anatomy's new bisexual intern Sadie, played by Melissa George (Alias), who makes her first appearance in the Nov. 13 episode "The Ties That Bind."

Could Sadie look any gayer, standing like that with her hands in her pockets? Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

Now comes the subtext-happy photos of Sadie with Meredith and co.

As I suspected, the "history" between Meredith and Sadie we reported last week doesn't appear to be of the romantic variety — the official description for the episode explains, "One of Meredith's oldest friends, Sadie, becomes an intern at Seattle Grace, but Mer's friends are less-than-welcoming to her."

Who wants to bet Cristina is leading the un-welcome wagon? Her face in the scene above says it all: Meredith is her person, damnit, and Sadie better get her own person if she knows what's good for her.

Don't worry, Cristina, she reportedly will. Which begs the question, who is more Sadie's type of person, Callie or Erica?

    well that depends

right now, it seems erica is way more excited about pursuing the relationship than callie is. so, it really depends on whether the show is going to take the too often travelled road of callie going back to men? lets hope not. the story could go so many ways at this point. could erica become too clingy leaving callie feeling smothered? could callie like it so much that her eyes are now open to other women? or does callie freak out leaving erica with an unfulfilled desire to go south of the border? they are already breaking trends with the slow beginnings which is GREAT! lets hope they keep us guessing.

    Callie

I think Callie is going to be interested in exploring her new playground.  And I also think she is more closely intwined with the main cast, which would be a greater opportunity for drama.  The fact that Sadie is an intern, also has a nice dollop of irony because of the whole George relationship.

However, I'm still not convinced it has to be Torres or Hahn.  She could seduce Lexie and then we might get a inkling of familial bond from Meredith.  Then again, knowing Meredith she'll want Lexie to stay away from her other person.

My favorite part of having Sadie on board will most certainly be the Cristina/Meredith/Sadie subtext triangle.

    Let me guess... after some

Let me guess... after some time trying to get between Callie and Erica, she'll end up with McSteamy. That's my prediction, especially if she's bisexual. That's my prediction.

I'd love to see her with Erica though. Either way I'm whateverish about the couples in Grey's Anatomy but I'm glad to see Melissa George back on telly again. I loved her in Alias but they totally screwed up that plotline, but I love Melissa George in anything, basically. So whoever she ends up hooking up with I'm okay with it.

Yay can not wait for that

Yay can not wait for that goodness, Melissa that is. Also like wickedgrrl, the C/M/S subtext will be interesting.

Hmm...I actually think that Erica is more interested in Callie. Callie is of course interested in Erica but she makes it out to be more about "women" than this actual person who just happens to be Erica aka awoman. This also comes off in the latest episode with Erica being all smitten with Callie and Callie panicking over south border and not Erica per se.

    Love/Hate

Sounds like a lot of us have fantastically low expectations toward the writers' credibility. I'm hoping they'll pleasantly surprise us (though is it really a surprise if I'm hoping it? Damn, I've foiled my own chance at television happiness!)

I do think Sadie looks cute with Meredith though -- cuter than she'd look with Erica or Callie (who are already adorable together). Sadie could also be good with Lexie, who desperately needs a better love interest/storyline. *crosses fingers futiley*

    Sadie & Lexie

(Their ship name would be SEXIE -- how perfect would that be?)

    i hope she

crawls back into a hole where she came from. Grey's already has just under 6 million characters on the show; they need to further the ones they have before throwing new ones into the mix. Also, I think it wuold be stupid and trashy to have her go after Callie..for what? If anything, she should be trying to feel up Hahn as well as other attendings in an effort to be all 'i'll give you head if you get me into surgeries because that's what works with other attendings who aren't featuring on the show.' so. yeah. But I'd like for her to not mess with anyone..quit bringin in people to fuck other people. Yarg. If she has to be bisexual, make her hit on Lexie because Lexie seems like her 'uncomfortable' face is all kinds of hilarious...and George would be all 'wait what now?'

    Lesbian Nanny on Friends

It's been bugging me where I've seen that actress before since I've never watched Alias. And then it just came to me, she played the lesbian nanny on Friends. And what is up with the wrench in a relationship that has barely gotten off the ground. I think they have enough problems without a third wheel in the mix.

    Gay Callie

I remember reading that Callie will experience coming out to her father and family showing their reaction and how Callie will deal with it (according to Shonda).

So, I don't think Callie will be going back to men any time soon. Maybe this Sadie chick will try to come between Callie and Erica, and hopefully fail. That would depend on how strong Callie's bond to Erica is.

    okinawansteel's picture

    Has it actually been

Has it actually been spoiled that that's who she's there for? All I remember is hearing that she is going to be bisexual, and people put two and two together (or rather not-straight and not-straight) and linked her to Callica. There must be spoilers beyond that, yes?

Anyway, if there is Callie/Erica/Sadie stuff, I was thinking that it would be one of them testing the waters when it comes to their attraction to women. Once they've come to terms with attraction to each other, it's understandable that they might be curious about other women too, especially as they go through the process of likely redefining their sexualities. Perhaps one of them will get hit on by this Sadie girl, and they'll think 'what the hell' and go out with her once. As long as it's doesn't turn into a triangle, and Callie and Erica haven't completely coupled up already by that point, I'm fine with it. But it's way too soon for them to have her be a big issue between them.

As for which of the ladies she'll be involved with, I'd have to say Callie. It makes more sense for her character to want to explore her newly discovered sexuality. I don't think Erica dates/flirts etc. much with people of either gender. Plus, I don't think Erica and Sadie would look quite right together. Maybe too similar, too much clashing blonde hair/blue eyes? Heh, what do you know, it looks like Callie has a type.

    I can't wait for this

I can't wait for this episode, because I loved Melissa George in Alias!  I never really watched Grey's Anatomy untill the whole Callica thing started.  I usually only watch clips, but this episodes seems totally worth it.  And I love the shipper name for Sadie and Lexie, sexie would totally work.

Am I the only one not thrilled about this?

I'm all for having different types of personalities, races, sexual preferences, and whatever else you can think of floating around a show. But for God sakes,  Callica is just picking up and now we hear this. Um excuse me, homie don't play that! Not to mention they already limit Calica's screen time to a whole 7 flipping minutes! How long are they going to let this girl be on...2 minutes?

Here's a wonderful idea for a story line. How about we start something with Calica and *gasps* make it into a decent storyline that people will enjoy! And yes, that includes the drama. But ahem, there are a lot of things these writers can do besides breaking Callica up and bringing them back together. I don't want MerDer all over again. And certainly not some bull crap attempt at a lesbian triangle. If that happens, I'm done. I did not fall in love with a wonderful couple just to watch a show rip them apart. I get that enough with Hospital Central.

Please God I'm begging you, do not mess with Pepa y Silvia or Marina e Esther. They are my only couples I have left.

    Just Someone to talk to?

I just started watching this show because of the Calica storyline so I'm not familiar with the history of the Show.

I'm hoping that maybe Sadie will serve as a someone that callie can talk to about the joys and pitfalls of the "undiscovered country", that doesn't need to happen in bed, does it? why must we assume that she is to be the wedge to come bt Callie and Erica?

    Dearlylovedaimee's picture

    Nice wish...

It would be wonderful if one of Sadie’s many purposes on the show was to provide support and encouragement to Callica. But after reading all these discouraging spoilers about Callica’s inevitable demise, the prospects of this are less then favorable. Sadie will probably be there for nothing more then a quick roll in the sack and move on. At least that’s what I’m hoping. Grey’s already has so many characters to focus on that it’s unreal. I’d be more than pleased if she and Janina went as quickly as they came. Perhaps they will hook up and leave together.

But even if they do add another lady to the mix, I will probably stop watching. Like I mentioned before, it sucks getting invested in a couple only to have a show tear them apart before they even begin. Especially since we have no decent lesbian couples on American television. That’s what leaves the bitter taste in my mouth. I mean it’s great to have all these gay/bisexual people floating around, but what’s the point? They aren’t breaking any new boundaries here. If they can’t create and sustain a decent relationship on their show then they should forego the idea all together. Of course we are talking about the show that can’t even make a decent straight relationship last. I love drama, but can we make it original already?

    In Treatment

I loved Melissa George in HBOs In Treatment.  Geez, is this another reason to start checking this show out?  I thought I'd left medical dramas behind me when I finally gave up on ER after 13 seasons.

    Hopefully...

I hope she just ends up getting together with McSteamy. It'll get rid of both the people who could potentially cause problems with Erica and Callie.

I stopped watching Grey's about a year or two ago but I got started again because I heard of Erica and Callie's relationship. I'm so happy, Callie was one of my favourite characters. I really want the two of them to work out.

    So excited for Melissa George!

I've loved Melissa George since Alias and am so happy to see her back on TV--and on my favorite show at that! But while she looks hot in scrubs, it's weird for me to see her scrubs. I'm like...wait what? Melissa George is playing a doctor now?

Even though they say that Meredith and Sadie don't have that kind of history, I definitely see chemistry between the two of them in those photos, so we'll see. Plus, there is the subtext of Sadie/Meredith/Cristina. Cristina does not look amused in that photo where Sadie's being all close to Meredith. Neither does Derek for that matter.

I'm excited that Melissa George is going to be on Grey's (can't you tell? :D), but I hope she doesn't break up Callie/Erica. If it has to happen, I personally would find it interesting for something to happen between her and Erica. But that's me. I could see her with Callie too. Or I like the idea of her being with Lexie. It actually makes sense if you think about it. Sadie gets a chance to be with a Grey. ;)

Is it just me or all

Is it just me or all Australian actresses look related to each other? Melissa George, Radha Mitchell, Naomi Watts and Nicole Kidman, for example.

Yeah, I'd go for Sadie and Meredith. Since they would never do that (well... Derek looks worried enough), I believe Sexie would be a great couple. She looks great, she is sweet, intelligent and deserves someone who sweeps her off her feet.

     And Melissa George is hot.
