Will out contestant Nanna become Finland's next "Top Model"?

I find it funny her name is Nanna because me and my mates always call top model na na na na (from the theme song). So I think she should win just from having a fitting name.

Sounds like Finlands next top model is doin a lot better than Britain's when it comes to lesbian content. All we got this yr was a lesbian themed photoshoot that most of the girls complained about, at least Lauren and Jade got on with it and looked hot in the process.

I'm from Finland and I've watched every episode of Finland's Next Top Model. Nanna is not only amazingly beautiful, but extremely funny too. She's done really well so far, and I'm guessing she could easily win the whole thing.

But I think her greatest achievement is getting us Finns on the front page of Afterellen... ;)

Nanna is amazing! She seems like a very diverse model. The Max Factor ad is a gorgeous picture but I LOVE the 'Homo/Pride' shot. It's brilliant and natural and beautiful and she really brings her message through. I agree with Ange about the red lipstick, it constrasts too much with her skin and hair. She looks stunning with less makeup on.

I'd love to see her win the competition. Go Finland!   

Hah, I'm finnish and I do watch the show (and of course, Nanna is my favourite). Thanks Sarah for writing about this! :)

Well, I'm a Finn but out of the country at the moment, so I haven't been able to follow the competition. Just out of curiosity, I did a Google search in order to see how Nanna's been received by the Finnish public and media, and, just as I expected, she's the favourite of many.

She's mostly described as "unique", "sweet", "tomboy" and "beautiful". Her sexuality hasn't warranted any headlines, because nobody really cares, it's not news worthy. And the articles where it is mentioned, she's usually brought it up herself. So, to answer your question Sarah, I don't think the audiences care that she's gay; matters such as sexuality tend to be secondary when it comes to Finland.

Even if she was voted by the public, she could be a winner. It just depends on a lot of variables and the mood of the judges. If she does not sabotage herself, maybe we see her in the final.

It seems that she has personality, somethign which many of the models in suomen huippumalli haussa, lack. That is a point in her favour, and she is nice enough to look at too.

Thanks for the article Sarah. I've been following the competition from the begining and so far Nanna has been my favorite. Apart from her walking which looks pretty funny. But in photos she looks stunning.

In next weeks episode Janice Dickinson is visiting the contestants and things doesn't go as planned. Haha what a surprise! The episode is called "Girls and a disaster dinner". Can't wait to see it! :)

but Im glad someone else beat me to it. It's great to get some recognization as a country from the AE + with a good cause (finally since the last thing I posted about Finns was so negative).

Nanna is definitely gorgeous and versatile - which kind of makes her my favorite (along with the fact she's out & proud). I don't know whether she identifies as a lezzy or bi, but what matters is the fact she likes girls and lets it be known!

I hope she wins and if she does I'm sure we'll get another post about Finns to the main page! hah Wonder if she has heard of AE and wonder if she'll ever know that she's getting fans all over the world

Believe only half of what you see and nothing of what you hear

I live in Finland but I haven't watched the show very actively, but my girlfriend has so I've heard a lot about Nanna. Her sexual orientation has been discussed almost from the beginning of the season. I think it was after episode 1 that they posted a behind the scenes video (about Nanna's sexual orientation) on TV channel's web site. A girl on the video said that 3 other girls have been competing on Nanna's attention!

Although Nanna's sexuality has been discussed in the videos on the official site, it has not been discussed in the show until now when they had the "word photoshoot". The fans have been slightly disappointed that the gay factor has been left out of the show altough the web trailers and inserts have implied about it.

AFAIK, Nanna has become the biggest favourite to win the contest. Both gay and straigh viewers like her, although of course there are (also gay) people saying that it's not good that Nanna is so openly and proudly gay.

Btw, in the program's website there's a video clip where Nanna talks about girls and says she's really proud of being lesbian. (in finnish, I'm sorry)

Well yes, I'm finnish and have watched all the top model shows there are, and so I've seen many many models in the shows, but Nanna is my ABSOLUTE favorite, I just love her personality, she is so fair and cool, her opinions are strong and good. And her voice is very likeable. In the show in the house she's very funny and in the shoots like a prof, can we ask for more? :D And oh, camera just loves her face ! She's just so adorable.

About that, how the finnish audiences have received her sexuality, well I gotta say, that really good ! She seems to be the favourit of many people here, and oh, so many girls have a crush on her ;) She is different than the other girls, she stands out in a very good way, and I really appreciate that she has the self-confidence to say out loud about her being gay. GO NANNA !

I think the crowd regards her sexuality as a non-issue, which is good. That's the way it is in Finland, at least here in Helsinki area, I think. At least, based on my personal experience as an out lesbian, I think that homophobia is quite rare here. I've lived in Helsink all my life and have been out since I was about 17, and never have I ever faced discrimination or prejudices or abuse (not even verbal) because of my sexuality. Perhaps I've just been blessed with open minded acquaintances, colleagues, friends and family.

Well, just to give you an example: the current president of Finland, Tarja Halonen, was the chairwoman for the national LGBT-organization (SETA) in the 1980's. During the campaign in 2000, this issue was discussed openly but it didn't cause any negative publicity, no one really seemed to care about the fact that she has been very active in promoting gay rights.

I hope Nanna wins, I think she's cool! I haven't really watched the show, but I've seen an episode or two.
